Christian 🎸🎸 I am really good at guitar noodling, in fact it is my favorite pass time. The purpose is to play hours and hours without learning a single thing and not progress at all. I have done this for years and I haven’t made a hint of improvement. I do believe that over the years I became a master noodler and I am extremely modest in claiming that I am really good at it. 🎸🎸

A chord-If G is the flattened, you’re playing the Gb, so flattening the already flattened ?
@MarkZabelКүн бұрын
Good question. G is the b7 chord. G# is the 7th of A. So the b7 chord in A is G.

I notice you are playing Rolling Stones licks without removing the 1st string, which has been part of the Keith Richards sound and style since forever. 5 string chords.
@MarkZabel2 күн бұрын
I think you mean the 6th string. I'm not playing the 6th string, so it doesn't matter. I prefer to be able to play my guitar for other things as well. Also, Keith, a great rhythm player, rarely plays all the strings at once. It's a common problem with many rock players who commonly play barre chords. They take up too much space. Listen to how little space Keith is taking up on Gimme Shelter to see what I mean. He has to leave a bunch of space in there, so he's usually playing 1 or 2 notes. Once in a while he plays 4. One last thing is that you usually don't need to tune the E string(s) to D. The 6th isn't played and the 1st isn't usually necessary to get that Stones sound. (You need the 5th in the bass for his chords, so the A-string needs to go to G.) That way it's very fast to re-tune AND you can solo using the D, G, B, and E strings, which is not very limiting.
@HoneyTone-TheSearchContinues2 күн бұрын
@@MarkZabel Or: you can loosen the low E string a little, then just lift it out of the nut and let it lay against the neck of the guitar. Instant 5-string sound. When you’re finished, lift it back in and retune, and you’re back in 6-strings territory. Been doing that for years.
@MarkZabel2 күн бұрын
@@HoneyTone-TheSearchContinues That's reasonable, and a good option! I don't think I'll change what I'm doing though. It's also a 5-string sound. (Though again, I rarely play more than 3 or 4 at one time - even with 6 strings.)

No worries brother. Pros rarely play barre chords. They're not a good sound.
@shinji3912 күн бұрын
Barre chords aren't beginner friendly, but they're great tools. Learning your triads can help replicate the sound of a barre chord while also freeing your fingers.
@ronaldviens78622 күн бұрын
Once you get the hang of forming the shape chord using the 3 fingers (other than your index finger) of your fretting hand, Barre chords will become second nature. Don't give up.
@MarkZabel2 күн бұрын
@@ronaldviens7862 It's okay to be able to play them ... just try to avoid playing them in most situations. They can take up way too much space in the mix and walk all over the bass, keyboard and singer. One of the great things about Keith's playing is that he's usually playing 4 or fewer strings.
