Short but sweet. Thank you Pendon. My first visit was in summer '73. Still in the old nissan hut. I had the pleasure of meeting Roy England a number of times. I joined many others in donating to the fund for the new building. I've visited a number of times since, but been quite a while since last. Much enjoy the videos you have created and watch them often just for the joy of it. Roy would be proud of you all. 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧

Id contradict your point on the standards. Here me out. The 2-6-2s are based off of lms prairies, some of which were inspired by the success of the GWR prairies. Also, the standard 5s (and smaller standard 4s) are loosely based off the lms black 5, which was inspired by the GWR Halls. In this case, certain great western locos are essentially grandfathers to some of the standard designs, so there may have been a bit more western region influence in those designs than we'd otherwise think

Is the wharf something to do with the nearby brickworks?
@PendonMuseumVideosАй бұрын
A good question @1963MAN. Yes, it is: The canal itself provided a reliable source of water for the brickworks, which used it to steam their kilns. Also, being close to the wharf meant they could easily transport their finished products to markets along the waterway, reducing transportation costs. Thanks for viewing.

I am surprised that, unlike other KZbin channels, you do not include links with each video description such as your website, a PayPal, Kofi or Patreon link and so on. I know you link to your website in your About section - but how many people look at that? I also know you link in the description to your "Become A Friend Of Pendon Museum" site. However, that implies a level of commitment that might not appeal to a casual visitor. Direct links in every video description might bring in additional revenue as some people who cannot visit you in person might well want to send a donation your way to support you. Even with the processor fees, getting something of something has to be better than getting all of nothing! If you go down this route, add the information retrospectively to your already published videos as well. You never know when people will find you.

Interestingly, our link to Friends Place is clicked on regularly and thankfully more and more of our viewers sign up for the modest fee of £22.00 per year and in return enjoy many benefits and material not published on-line or on KZbin. Maybe you would like to join them? it would be our pleasure to have you support us and to share even more of the Pendon experience with you. pendonmuseum.com/friends-of-pendon

I remember unloading parcels (some very heavy) on the up slow platform at Watford Jct. just before the early morning rush of passenger trains to Euston. We worked so fast that parcels were piled up against the Station Master's door and then when the train pulled out much of the pile fell onto the tracks. We then jumped down to clear that and then it was a heckof a rush to barrow (before the B.R.U.T.E.S.) it all down the lift to the parcels office.

Interesting. I didn't know Britain had much anthracite. Several railroads in the northeastern US fired with it in special Wooten fireboxes. It burned much cleaner than bituminous.
@ianperryman10786 ай бұрын
As far as I'm aware the only major deposit of Anthracite in Britain is in South West Wales. If you look at the wagons carrying Anthracite they have the name 'Cwmgwrach' on the side, which is a village in Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Like much of western South Wales coalfield, the coal was high quality anthracite. The best coal came from the deepest seam called Big Vein ( also seen on the wagons ). Cefn Coed, about 14 miles from Cwmgwrach, was worked at depths of over 2,500 feet (800m), and was the deepest anthracite mine in the world at that time.
