Hi mate, have been following your videos and looking at tackleing doing a gutter replacement on my house. After some advice. If I have a 8m length of gutter am I best ordered a 8.5m one piece gutter or getting it in two 4.25m lengths ? Cheers
@dennisperrie6 күн бұрын
if you don't want a join in it and 8.5 but the problem Is it will take two people to hand it .generally i would put a slip join in it as it will be more forgiving when doing mitres . Also you cannot carry an 8.5 on your car so you would have to pay for delivery which would add at least another 120 onto the job

@Matt123a it could be all three but at the end of the day it's bad supervision because the builder who is doing the job should be checking. the thing is new home builder allocate 30 to 35 homes to young supervisors to build and it is physically impossible to keep track of everything doing that aswell as meetings and office politics.

Are the pre-mitred joints faster? They are quite pricey. Also how do you set the drop on WA style rebated facias, without leaving a gap between the gutter and the facia?
@dennisperrie18 күн бұрын
The Pre=mitre are not faster but they are easier for beginners. They do add more joints and more places to leak. For the facia the answer is the gutter is set to the facia. this means if the facia is out the gutter is out and you will have to to leave a gap if you want to adjust the gutter.

G'day Dennis. Do you have a video on sloped eaves? In particular I'm trying to work out how I would install colorbond fascia and rebate the soffit sheets into the groove at the bottom if the sheets were running along the rafters at an angle, and weren't horizontal like in this video. Sorry for the long winded question.
@dennisperrie23 күн бұрын
@ML6103 it all about the set up. you have to get the rebate set right. If you are not sure a roof carpenter will know the set up
@ML610323 күн бұрын
@@dennisperrie but are there colorbond fascias with an angled rebate for the soffit sheets? So far, all I can find is the rebate facing 90 degrees to accommodate the sheet as normal at horizontal. I can find timber fascias with the angled slot, but not colorbond. I guess I'm just wondering if they are around.

@dennisperrieАй бұрын
@ML6103 it is fine . I do paint over the metal and the bit that rests on the metal is the back seam. on some downpipes I do leave the plastic on to protect it and take it off after (round downpipes especially as they tend to move more)

I think your sinlge-cut method (the shoe) creates an internal restriction (H<45mm), and your tabs are external with a mitre cut joint (but if you fit them inside you get a leak). The double-cut method (the double returns) has a lesser internal restriction, with internal tabs so that the joint is straight. Just IMO.
