So I started playing some early country guitar , that lead me to rockabilly , which lead me to jump blues then back to swing and bebop and now Louis Jordan is my all time favorite. So many great songs that I can’t not move to. Been learning a few to perform , wish I knew some horn players

I'm a longtime fan of Louis Jordan, whom I consider to be one of the fathers of rock 'n' roll. IMO, Louis Jordan's music, which I discovered in the late '70s, was (and remains) a definitive influence on generations of rockers, R&B, blues and Western swing players. Chuck Berry cited him as a primary influence, and the more you study Chuck's music and career, the more can see the imprint of Louis Jordan, not just musically but also in terms of Chuck's use of language/wordplay and humor, just like Louis did it. I was curious about this video, and with a little research I saw that Jordan recorded an album titled "I Believe in Music" for the Black & Blue label in France, released in 1973, two years before he died. (I had forgotten, but I own that record! :^) Saxophonist Irv Cox, who appears here, also performed on that recording. So, I'd date this at 1973 or so. (Someone else here mentioned 1974. Could be...) Mr. Jordan still has his vocal and sax chops here, even at this late stage in his life. I'm very glad to see this video, and thanks for posting it!!

Louis Jordan could easily be considered the first Rapper. Saturday Night Fish Fry is certainly a Hip Hop record. Jordan rhymed throughout his songs.

Según Stuart Isacoff, Fatha Hines fue uno de los inflamables del piano. Sus improvisaciones lúcidas, tiernas, o feroces marcarían una época irrenunciable del jazz

that "Hard Head" number was hard to even listen to. Just realized that Santana's "Evil Ways" has some similar epithets ("when I come home...my house is dark and my pots are cold")

One of my favorite musicians of all time. There have ben only a handful of musicians who could sing, ply and write this well. And, yes, Lincoln is right, there would be no R&B or rock n roll with Louis Jordan and the Tympani 5. Thanks for posting this.

And such an entertainer. It kind of reminds me of Jacques Brel in that they are both extremely charismatic and give a hell of a performance.
