G’day, nice build and video. I’m also in Australia and I’m building a controller for someone making the plasma cutter. I have run into an issue where the stepper motors will not rotate. I have checked the wiring from the ESP32 to drivers a hundred times. I even ripped the wiring out and rewired it…issue is still the same. If it’s OK I would like to ask a couple of questions. Firstly, what stepper motor drivers are you using? Secondly, did you have to make any changes to the wiring between the ESP32 and the drivers. Lastly, where did you purchase your ESP32? I have been dealing with JD’s garage but up until now the problem still exists. I’m suspecting either the ESP32 or drivers. I have also tried to get Bluetooth running but this is another issue for another time. THANKS Daryl - Paradise Beach Vic.
@SullysRodskustoms.11 күн бұрын
Daryl, I used the stepper drivers that are recommended in the JD's garage plans. Do your stepper motors lock up when powered up? If so, you have power going to them, probably just crossed wires to the stepper paired wired, Use a multi meter and bell out the wires to each stepper and find the pairs. If it is still not working, I suggest disconnecting the stepper motor wires and swapping them around. Do you have the power lights on the drivers when powered up? If not you problem is before the drivers. Make sure you used the jumper wire as per the plans when programming the ESP. I missed it the first time and couldn't get it powered up or even to accept the program. The ESP was from Amazon. Be careful not to get a 40 pin ESP like I did or 2 pins will have to hang off the edge pf the breakout board. Count the pins on the board and the ESP make sure both have 38.
@Htfhjooffhgghwwwwdf11 күн бұрын
@ THANKS for the comprehensive answer. I just thought I’d let you know the problem has been resolved. I used DM556T drivers. These for some reason had a compatibility issue with the ESP32. I fitted DM556 units and they worked fine. 👍

@darrenturner6090 Here's the run down on the costs. For anything through Amazon Australia, x 1.5 the price JD suggests. Steel cost for me was outrageous, but I was lazy, I bought duragal tube from bunnings in short lengths, 1.5m lengths. Which is why I made it 1.5m x 1.5m. If I was you, I would get long lengths if you can pick them up, way cheaper, you will save about $200. I used duragal so I didn't have to paint the x and y axis tubes as others have issues with the steel rusting. I think all up I'm into it about $1600 -$1700 not including my plasma cutter, which I already had. If you don't have a plasma cutter, just look into a cheaper brand that meets the requirements of JDs suggestion. Lots of people have had success with the cheaper plasma cutters. Mine is a cigweld easycut35. It's too small, get a 45amp pilot arc plasma cutter. When you buy the plans, buy the XL plans from JD. It has a calculator for whatever size table you decide to make. He developed this option after I supersized mine. There was no option for a larger table when I had to work it all out on my own. My thought is make it as large as you can with the space you have.

I don't have a THC yet. I asked JD's Garage but they don't ship to Australia. What you are seeing in the Videos is the touch off function. The Z axis will lower, touch the steel and trip a limit, then the ESP controller knows the steel height and it backs off approx 3mm to be the correct height for the cut. A THC would be great for multiple cuts as the steel gets some distortion from the heat even with the water table.
