Im from Dublin living in Mass. 35 years now, I remember the first time I saw the tv show Republic of Doyle and was just blown away by the accent and slang...I knew one of the actors was from Ireland, but found myself googling their names.....the accent and phrases were so Irish....got to visit there some day... I figure I would love the place....

*It's like Australia - the classic, broad Aussie accent (which you still hear in outback towns) is a time capsule of an old English poverty class accent from the 1700s and 1800s. Most of the earliest migrants were convicts who came down here on prison ships. So it has been a time capsule and the accent was preserved here even in the cities until about 1980. In the last 40 years the cities are developing a softer accent that is slowly, slowly Americanising. But drive 3 hours into the bush and you're right back in that authentic Australian accent which we call "strine".*

I love my Hartmann Pecan Tweed luggage with belting leather! I have eight pieces now, including two hanging garment bags, a new-model duffel, and a fabulous carry-on. It’s been with me to six continents (Antarctica is my “saving the best for last” choice!) and I anticipate many more tens of thousands of miles to go. Bravo for Hartmann. I was upset when Samsonite bought it from its roots in Tennessee, but not to worry. I’ve since seen it in Harrod’s London and Printemps and Galleries Lafayette in Paris. Roll Tide for the brand. (Yes, I’m an Alabama graduate!)

I worked with a bunch of the best people I ever met and for the first month I asked one guy what language he was speaking I said why do you only say half a word he said and this is true half of what we’re talking about is lies and the rest is not true so you don’t have to listen so long to get to where I’m at I said that actually makes sense the salt of the earth newfies are by When you get drinking with them after a few you fit right in and they don’t let you get away. The funny thing (or ting) is, I'm from Cape Breton. I lived in Brampton, Ontario for a few years and there were so many people that thought I was from Newfoundland. At the time I was a bit insulted but not now. My great grandfather was from northern Newfoundland and his father or grandfather was from Ireland. So I start to understand what's goin on. I'm descended from Irish immigrants in the year 1756. Where they settled in Twillingate, Newfoundland. I of course never thought I had any sort of "accent" but low and behold I do. Living in the Sydney area, or Cape Breton Regional Municipality, of Cape Breton Island, we have I would say 4 distinct accents in our small area. I find that sort of strange for our small area but I guess it stems from older days when we were seperate and more isolated as communities and the accents stuck. We don't tend to talk as fast as Newfoundlanders though I don't tink.

Yes, you can walk to a few of the restaurants and stores nearby. I used to work at the Marina Del Rey Hotel as a Telephone operator back in the 90's, and one of my responsibilities was to inform hotel guests about the shops and attractions in the area. Hope this helps.

0:45 I have had afternoon tea at the Royal York Hotel a few times. Walking into the Library Bar, one sees the cake stands on the bar, and they look very impressive. However, having things sit out like can cause some staleness, which we noticed. Hopefully, things are different now that they serve their teas in the lobby. Nice video, thanks.
