Thank you. I’m trying to prioritize stretching before yoga, walking , and simple weightlifting. This was my reminder to myself for minset because I seem to have a tendency to stiffen no matter how long I practice some easy movements . I can’t even change shoes anymore without tightening in feet, legs, hips. I was wondering if it was some kind of health condition. I’ll consider my mindset and breathing.
@TheMuscleRepairShop5 күн бұрын
The issue most people have with stretching is they think it is only physical. When stretching we are not lengthening muscles, we are releasing tension in the muscle tissue. That stiffness can come from everything we think, feel, and do. This happens 24/7, awakened or asleep. When stretching focus on breathing out as you stretch, hold for 5 seconds and feel the muscle tissue release tension, not lengthen.
@danih75774 күн бұрын
@ that makes sense! Thanks. I didn’t understand why my yoga teacher said that I was overstretching my neck when I was doing exercises taught in PT. I haven’t healed fully after 6 years , so I will breathe! And watch again. I have been reminding myself to breathe as I was taught now since watching this. Thank you very much.
@TheMuscleRepairShop4 күн бұрын
@ I am glad. It is not just the breath, focus your mind on releasing the tension. This is different from feeling a stretch like when we are trying to lengthen, which we cannot. In yoga, mind/body connection is about focusing the mind so the releasing of tension is effortless. It may feel like you are not doing much but don’t worry. Think of why a yogi looks like as they move. It is without effort

@@TheMuscleRepairShop that is what she said when she taught me different techniques opposite of PT technique of lengthening. Instead, she said it might feel like you’re not doing much, but you are. Honestly, I didn’t follow through bc it didn’t feel like much, but hours later-I had a full week of pain. Honestly , I was frustrated and skeptical while learning. I’ll grab the notes and go for it again (she drew diagrams:)This time breathing into those places and aware of my mindset. I’ll let you know ! All the best to you. I’m not ready to give up after all these years of working to get pain free and do all the things again. Perfect timing bc I’m getting ready to do the thing that began the deterioration. This time I will try not to fall off the ladder while I practice no tensing. 🤍 May your kindness return to you ten fold. 🙏

What are your thoughts on botox for masseter? I was recommended to get it but a little skeptical about it.
@TheMuscleRepairShop19 күн бұрын
Botox will paralyze the masseter and may affet the movement. Think of women who have botox in their lips to reduce wrinkles, their smiles are affected. I have found that by doing the masseter massages, most people report less grinding and satop biting throught their biteguards. Hope this helps

Exactly, A good therapist will pick up on that and coach you on breathing and letting go of the thoughts in your mind. UNtil you can release the thoughts the muscles cannot relax. Muscles are just as emotional as they are physical.

Yeah ~ I was wondering about your book. These stretches are helping me tremendously. Thank you. No one, including my chiropractor, ever addressed tightness on the front side. As a massage therapist, are you really able to feel muscle adhesions? I was told I have one between my scapula and lower trap and another between my lat and serratus anterior ~ both on right side.
@TheMuscleRepairShop3 ай бұрын
I can feel a lot of things, but adhesions I cannot. Maybe what they think are adhesions are just tight muscles. When they press, even lightly, it can feel painful. If they press too hard thinking they will break them without your help, you may become bruised or sore the next day. The idea should be, when they feel a hard muscle, gently press down so you can feel, give you a few seconds to breathe out, and they will feel the muscle release. If they do this spot by spot understanding that you most be able to breathe as they press gently, you muscles will release and your pain will decrease. The scapula has a socket for your upper arm to fit in to it. Whe you raise your arm, the out side chest muscle must release, the rhomboids between your shoulder blade and spine must release so the scapula can rotate as you lift your amr, and the traps on top then can pull the arm up. If the outside chest and rhomboids are tight, you will get pain on top of your shoulder and sometimes running down your arm. On top of that, pifting your arm will be difficult and could result in a frozen shoulder. Let me know if this helps. I can send you more.

@TheMuscleRepairShop3 ай бұрын
No. I would begin by massaging the outer chest muscle with your hand. You can brace your arm against a wall as high as you can without pain, then use the opposite hand to massage the outer chest muscle to make it soft. Next, do the tennis ball massage on your upper back especially on the shoudler blade and between the shoudler blade and spine. If you try to force through the pain, your brain will fight back by contracting the muscles which can make it worse. if you need any more help, let me know. Thanks for watching.\

I know to sit to the back of a hard chair. What about lounging at night for a couple of hours? Is it ok to sit with legs out on a chaise or should they always be flat on the floor? Thanks

The pure answer is they should be down so your feet are on the floor, however, it is ok to put them up on an ottoman with your back straight. If your feet swell by night time, then putting them will help and I would suggest doing the calf stretch too.Thanks for watching.

Great info! I just started walking twice per day and my right IT band is quite unhappy. I’m feeling it up higher on my thigh~ about half way up from the knee (only on the right thigh) and not at the knee. Seems like something is off and maybe this would help me.
@TheMuscleRepairShop5 ай бұрын
Most times when the IT band is tight, one of the inner thigh muscles is tight. Sit in a chair and cross the affected leg so your ankle is resting on the knee of the opposite leg. If your knee cannot lay flat when you relax the leg, that can be the cause. Try gentle massage on the inner thigh and if it is sore that could be the cause.

I think this is exactly what I need. My chiropractor always tells me I need to strengthen the muscles in my back but never addressed tight chest muscles that have contributed to my rounded shoulders. Am I right that these exercises will also keep my mid back from being so tight and painful after I knit? I try to sit properly and hold my knitting as ergonomically as I can so I’m not looking so far down. Could the armrests in my recliner be a problem also? My shoulders don’t raise up when I use the armrests though and I only sit in it a few hours before bed.
@TheMuscleRepairShop7 ай бұрын
Anytime we use our hands, we usually use them out in front of our body. This will automatically force the shoulders to round and that is why stretching your outisde chest muscles is a daily thing. While the knitting places pressure on your neck and back due to the position you in, driving a car, eating dinner, or reading a book will do the same thing. So do the chest stretches eacxh morning and evening then let me know if it helps.

You're so welcome! Muscle can cramp for many reasons. We usually hear about low potassium, magnesium, or dehydration, however when muscles are tight they can mimic dehydration even though you may be drinking plenty of water. I have found that doing self-massage on the muscles that cramp and softening the muscle, the cramping stops. Watch my video on low back pain and see the stretch for the upper quads, front of thigh, which will loosen the muscle as well. I would sugges tdoing this before bed and first thing in the morning.

I’m currently working on rounded shoulders. My upper & mid back are super tight. I’ve changed my sleeping position to my back to help as I slept in a fetal position and realized this was contributing to the problem. I’m also currently working on releasing the pec minor and that has been a huge help so far. My back muscles are just so tight. Any pressure on my back causes a twitchy feeling. I feel it most when I lie on my back. I’m wondering if it’s going to just going to take time. I just cannot figure out how to loosen them.
@TheMuscleRepairShop8 ай бұрын
Hello, it will take a little time, but there is more to the story. Believe it or not, your calves and quads could be contributing to your upper and mid back pain. Finally, the front of the neck muscles are also included. If your ankles do not bend when you walk, you will walk leading with your nose which also rounds your shoulders. Check my videos on claf stretching. Your shoes may be a part of your pain too. The quads, front of thighs, can contribute as they will shift the pelvis forward when they are tight. The quads get tight from sitting too much, doing squats without proper stretching, and walking without bending your ankles. Look at my videos on low back pain and the once about shoes. Let me know if you need more.
