The true reason why we are so different from animals is because God created us to be like this. He made us just like Him, to think and create both in imagination and action, as well as to get along with each other. Animals, on the other hand, mostly do things through their instinct. So, while our bodies and ways of living are quite similar to animals, what separates us from them is that we can think and do things in ways that they wouldn't think of doing. I am not a sword expert. However, I can speculate that straight swords were usually double edge blade while curve swords were single edge blade.
