Thanks for your research. This has been my main complaint about Mint. I will say I have had this issue with both Kernel 5.3 on a very old system and in a newer B550 board system on Kernel 5.13. My workaround was to pause whatever audio is being impacted (usually a video) and to mute whatever tab causes the crackling. Discord (sound notifications) have been an issue was well as certain ads. After muting the offending tab I would refresh the tab I was listening to and that fixed it temporarily. I am guessing this is doing the same thing as restarting pulseaudio. I will give your fix a try next time this occurs.

Outstanding! Thank you so much for your help! It may also help to run pulseaudio -k as your logged in user... if you can't reboot. I hope that this issue is cleared up for everyone.

Actually shortly after writing the article (see video description) and posting this video, the workaround stopped working :-/. I don't have a permanent fix yet, but it seems to happen only once after booting the machine. I added a possible source of the audio crackling in the article (the AMD B3XX chipset) but a BIOS update did not help.

POSSIBLE FIX!!.. Had the same/very similar problem on a PrimaDonna S DeLuxe 26.455. Checked out the replacement part suggested (thank you Knut Midtveit :) and downloaded the diagrams on the suppliers page. Make sure you have the correct model number - there's loads of delonghi B-2-Cup machines but (I'm sure) most are built on pretty-much 1 of 2 or 3 platforms with slightly modified externals. There's actually 3 solenoids inside these dual-boiler machines, thankfully the one that requires attention is near the base of the machine, despite being pictured higher-up on the exploded view. If you put a meter accross the two power cables you notice it only becomes active for 'Steam' function and Descalling. !!!!!! WARNING - It's MAINS POWERED 220VOLTS A.C. !!!!!!! Anyway these solenoids are east to dissasemble by rotating the bolt on the top of the solenoid & taking the coil off. You can then remove the plunger barrel (just pulls off after removing the plate held down by a couple of Torx screws). I cleaned it thouroughly - removing what looks like a thin layer of rust on the sprung plunger (the actual valve) and Voila!!! it works. Guess I could have bought a replacement instead but the cleaning has made it work again. For me it means the machine Descale Cycle which was the issue I had is now completing OK. I've got pictures if anyone wants but don't know how to post them on here (that's irony for you!!!).

If you look closely on the video you posted, you will see that the video cable is connected to the VGA plug on the back of the server (primary VGA). If you read the bug report links I posted, you'll see that in my case only the secondary VGA plug (front of the server) didn't show any video output, back plug worked. So these are two different problems it seems.

Hi, I opened the back cover and sidecover and found the noise coming from the solenoid valve. Order replacement here www.4ourhouse.co.uk/solenoid-valve-2v/product.pl?pid=2987251&query=Delonghi+Solenoid+Valve+2V Mounted it now and the sound is gone, my wife is happy again :-) You need kind torx bit with a hole in it to unscreew the 5 screes at the back, the back cover can then be removed. The Left hand sidecover, same side as milk will can then be slided back and out. Two screes are holding the solenoid valve and need to be unscreewed from bottom of machine

I have a Delonghi ECAM 23.450S that had this problem also. When trying to froth the milk with steam, the frothing milk & steam mix would splutter to a halt, then the machine would buzz loudly. It also would sometimes display “Grounds Too Fine, Adjust Mill”, followed by”Insert Water Spout” First of all I replaced the Steam Heating Element part No. 7332196700, but this did not fix the issue. Next I replaced the Outlet Coupler (the nozzle you plug the milk container onto) part No. 7313217291, but this also did not fix the issue. Finally I replaced the Discharge Solenoid Valve part No. 5213218311, and this fixed the problem. This solenoid valve is upstream from the Outlet Coupler, and supplies Hot Water or Steam to the Outlet Coupler (not to be confused with the vent solenoid valve part No.5213218421). This was an usual situation where this solenoid valve would function OK delivering hot water, but would fail (and close) when trying to supply steam. It looks like the steam pressure was enough to force the valve shut, even when energised, and cause it to buzz loudly. I have put together a document including pictures and a flow chart to show how this all works, which I can email out if anyone is interested.

So after the 5th time I gave the machine for repair, the shop finally told me that my coffee machine is "not repairable". The following pieces were replaced from the shop with original Delonghi replacement pieces: - Valve (Ventil) through which the milk is pushed out (twice) -> since this was replaced, the problems got worse - Another piece which "burnt" (so I was told... whatever it was) - Heating unit Now the machine still has the same problem and the repair guy is left clueless. The next thing to replace, according to the repair guy, would be the electronics, therefore the whole machine. This is where it's time to say good bye. The machine made really good coffee - but only for a bit more than 2 years. Right after the warranty was over... That's not long enough for the high price of the machine. I'm very disappointed by this Delonghi product.

+Claudio Kuenzler No problem! You should be able to but the part at an online coffee parts warehouse. The replacement solenoid for my 26.444 was 5213218311, but it may be a different part number for your particular model of machine. I can understand everyone's frustration with these machines considering how much they cost.
