You know what's weird, WWE recognizes the Flair loses to Race in New Zealand in 1984 and Fujinami in 1991but in both cassa totally ignore Flair regaining the belt. Just two of 6 Flair world title wins they ignore.

The WCW International title didn't come into being while Barry Windham was NWA World Champion, it came after WCW left the NWA in September 1993.
@doncooper11893 күн бұрын
When WCW and the NWA went their separate ways it spelled the end for the NWA. WCW had the recognized World Heavyweight Championship and the NWA title was a championship in name only and had little clout. A true world title is only legitimate when it is accepted by not only the governoring body of a company but by the majority of the fans. The fans recognized the WCW belt, not the fake NWA belt. Flair was the last true NWA World Heavyweight Champion and that was the last time the title was a legit world title. PERIOD!

Man I love how those belts looked in the '80s, but there is definitely a video waiting to be made about some of the odder looking titles from back then such as the NWA world Junior heavyweight championship and the southeastern tag team titles (with the crown coronas on the front plate). Still shocked the SETTT had a rebel flag😂.

I have to compliment you on a succinctly concise and well presented journey through NWA history! Born in Calgary in '61 and started watching Stampede since early the 70's. For so many years I truly believed that the North American Heavyweight champion was "THE" North American Heavyweight champion with no clear understanding until I started purchasing wrestling magazines around '76. Loved the Dusty/Midnight Rider moment in video btw! Appreciate your efforts in compiling such great info!

This just sounds like what WWE is currently doing with the whole WWEID thing for WWE's developmental/NXT system. WWE might as well also handle their main roster like a territory system as well. Instead of all these participation trophies duplicate belts. They could just have the WWE Undisputed championships (men/women) be defended on Raw/Smackdown & once in a blue in NXT. Since its the champion of WWE as a whole, the biggest pro wrestling championship in the business. Than have the WWE intercontinental and WWE United States championships be the "top singles championships " for its respective brands (men/women). Much like how the WWE NXT championship (men/women) represents that for NXT.
@AViewFromTheMiddle18 күн бұрын
Could be. Maybe they watched my video. ha. I really haven't watched the current product much lately for various reasons, but they have way too many belts and AEW is just as bad. The belts have to have some kind of meaning and when it seems like everybody gets a belt it makes it hard for the fans to care.

I remember Lynn (Len) Denton from his pre-Grappler days in Calgary. He had met some of the Hart brothers and other Calgary wrestlers in Germany and they sang his praise to Stu Hart who brought him in. He worked with Dynamite Kid and No Class Bobby Bass. He so impressed Dynamite that Dyno rated him as one of the finest workers of the day. You can count the number of wrestlers Dynamite would publicly praise on one hand and Tiger Mask, Harley Race, and Lynn Denton were three of the fingers on that hand. Wish I could still get the Grappler's book. It's supposed to be one of the finest wrestling bios of all time. Anyone here read it?
@AViewFromTheMiddleАй бұрын
That's cool. I knew Moose Morowski was how he ended up in Germany to begin with, but I wasn't sure how that translated into going to Calgary and actually getting a little push.
@misterslatsАй бұрын
@AViewFromTheMiddle One of the promoters of the yearly Catch Tournaments in Germany and Austria would come to Calgary several months ahead of the tournaments and he would hand-pick guys he liked after watching a Stampede show. Stu sent guys off his roster to the Catch Tournaments for years and then his long-time right-hand man and trainer, Tokyo Joe, took over booking Calgary boys into Germany . It was pure serendipity that Denton and all the Calgary boys ended up in Germany at the same time. Grappler has told a story about a rib Dyno played on him when he left some wrestling boots in Germany by accident and he asked Dyno to send them to him. Dynamite sent Grappler the boots. Both full to the brim with fresh cow sh!t. It was sort of a "Welcome To Calgary" gesture as Calgary is one of the most famous cowtowns in the World. Denton also tells a story about Dyno and him causing a full-on riot in the small city of Red Deer an hour north of Calgary.
