I feels like you are rating episodes in my life. 😂 Anyway, for me seventeen seconds (my favorite winter album) and Faith are classic albums and Blood Flowers is great. I also should rate "The Top" as good and Songs of a Lost World as great. But I agree with the rest. I also don't care about the remixes and some compilations and live albums. Can you do the same with Siouxsie & the Banshees albums? For me Tinderbox is a classic for sure.

I'm loving the new album. The fact that it's faithful to The Cure mystic, Roberts voice sounds perfect, nos signs of eldering, productionwise sounds modern, up to date, but reminds me of the best days of the band. It's direct and wildly sincere to Roberts feelings.

I don't know why The Top always features so low on people's lists. It's a great transitional record between the darkness of Pornography and the lighter Head On The Door. It also provides the template for Cure albums that represent the different moods of their music, from the delirious psychedelic pop of The Caterpillar to the dark, paranoid title track. It is probably the nearest you would get to a Robert Smith solo album as he does most of the writing and playing on this one apart from Lol on keyboards and Andy Anderson on drums. Quite remarkable, considering that he was also still the guitarist in the Banshees at the time of recording, the influence of this on the Cure can definitely be felt here. It's maybe not quite a classic but The Top is a great Cure album and deserves more credit than it sometimes gets. However, for me Wish and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss me are classic Cure albums and both superior to Bloodflowers.

This is truly a cure fan's extensive, thought-provoking work. Im at a lost why you didnt include the In Orange concert footage? For me, I enjoyed this footage so much at the time I converted it to cassette tspe and brought it everywhere back in the day. Its to me quintessential. Classic Cure. It should had at least honorable mention. Ive never considered my Cure collection complete without it. When doing my Spotify, Ill recreate a listing using that concert's setlist. It always satisfies, blends well into other setlists I created, plus other preferred live performances. Further, like any other fan, we all have our preferences. I for one think Kiss Me³ while consisting of some best Cure material ever, sure, can drop a tier. Lost World, too. I've enjoyed listening to it past week, and maybe I'll change it back to your listed position here later. And I'd place Wish among the classics, but that's probably only bcz I waited for it, attended its tour, held it amongst favored memories with friends at that time. Good job with this listing, I've enjoyed this immensely. Caveat-my favored songs on the Lost World release this week are Endgame, and Drone. I think Drone should had been the album's opener, just saying.

It might be perceived as blasphemous, but I would move The Top to "good", and the last LP to "ok" ... I found this very boring, uninspired, almost a caricature. I would have loved to see Faith and Wish as classics but this can't be said because of weak tracks like like Wendy Time, Doubt, Cut ...
@polyesterspecter10 күн бұрын
I largely agree with your ranking, with the hard exception of The Top. I absolutely love every single song! It's their most psychedelic album, and I think that Andy Anderson's (rip) work on it is incredible. I can listen to the song The Top on repeat. And while I highly dislike Wild Mood Swings, the song GONE! is excellent. Classic: Seventeen Seconds, Faith (cassette version with Carnage Visors), Pornography, The Top, Disintegration Great: Japanese Whispers, The Head on the Door, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Wish, Songs of a Lost World Good: Three Imaginary Boys, Standing on a Beach, Join the Dots OK: Bloodflowers Non Essential: Wild Mood Swings, Galore, The Cure, Greatest Hits, 4:13 Dream (While I've seen them live over a dozen times, I don't listen to live albums)

Only two albums by the Pumpkins really do anything for me, Siamese Dream and Melancholy. Although Melancholy is definitely bloated, the good tracks outweigh the bad. I've never been able to get into any other releases, which is a shame since those two albums are both so good.

@NOTIMETOROCK I actually am a bit older than the average demo for them. I came from a classic rock and punk rock youth, so I really appreciated the guitar centred approach of the early records, but when the electronic inspired stuff came out, I grew away from them. The later return to a more organic approach was better, but still not as good as those albums. I will always appreciate Billy, however, and have him to thank for a lifelong love affair with Fuzz pedals.
@mileswatkinson813511 күн бұрын
Two places I would definitely disagree on. I think The Top is a fantastic album, Shake dog Shake alone would put this into the Great category. I would also put Concert in a higher category, simply because the track listing is a perfect best of playlist for this point in their career. It was a big catalyst for taking me from a casual Cure fan to a hardcore Cure fan. Great video, thanks for posting.

Concert has been re isssued a few times. I recently re bought it on vinyl. I agree with you regarding bad sound quality but the performances are great throughout and captures the band at a pivotal time when they sounded distinctly punkish
