I also agree with this whole list with the exception of Bloodflowers being ranked higher than Wish. Faith is my personal favourite. I think part of that is it wasthe album that finally made me go, Yes. This is 100% my favourite band right now. But there is such a damn excellent gloomy sound to that and how all the tracks go from one to the next is so perfect. I Understand Disintegration being at top for most, and it's a close first for me. But Faith really does just hit differently for me. The Top is very underrated. Yes it's weird af at times, but I vibe with that. Shake dog Shake and the TItle track are such excellent opening and closing tracks to it particularly. The Head on the Door is one I've actually come to not like so much over time. Despite some excellent tracks on it, there are some that just annoy me to the point of wanting to skip like Six Different Ways Also , Concert is definitely not out of Print. This is truly a cure fan's extensive, thought-provoking work. Im at a lost why you didnt include the In Orange concert footage? For me, I enjoyed this footage so much at the time I converted it to cassette tspe and brought it everywhere back in the day. Its to me quintessential. Classic Cure. It should had at least honorable mention. Ive never considered my Cure collection complete without it. When doing my Spotify, Ill recreate a listing using that concert's setlist. It always satisfies, blends well into other setlists I created, plus other preferred live performances. Further, like any other fan, we all have our preferences. I for one think Kiss Me³ while consisting of some best Cure material ever, sure, can drop a tier. Lost World, too. I've enjoyed listening to it past week, and maybe I'll change it back to your listed position here later. And I'd place Wish among the classics, but that's probably only bcz I waited for it, attended its tour, held it amongst favored memories with friends at that time. Good job with this listing, I've enjoyed this immensely. Caveat-my favored songs on the Lost World release this week are Endgame, and Drone. I think Drone should had been the album's opener, just saying.

I largely agree with your ranking, with the hard exception of The Top. I absolutely love every single song! It's their most psychedelic album, and I think that Andy Anderson's (rip) work on it is incredible. I can listen to the song The Top on repeat. And while I highly dislike Wild Mood Swings, the song GONE! is excellent. Classic: Seventeen Seconds, Faith (cassette version with Carnage Visors), Pornography, The Top, Disintegration Great: Japanese Whispers, The Head on the Door, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Wish, Songs of a Lost World Good: Three Imaginary Boys, Standing on a Beach, Join the Dots OK: Bloodflowers Non Essential: Wild Mood Swings, Galore, The Cure, Greatest Hits, 4:13 Dream (While I've seen them live over a dozen times, I don't listen to live albums)

I don't know why The Top always features so low on people's lists. It's a great transitional record between the darkness of Pornography and the lighter Head On The Door. It also provides the template for Cure albums that represent the different moods of their music, from the delirious psychedelic pop of The Caterpillar to the dark, paranoid title track. It is probably the nearest you would get to a Robert Smith solo album as he does most of the writing and playing on this one apart from Lol on keyboards and Andy Anderson on drums. Quite remarkable, considering that he was also still the guitarist in the Banshees at the time of recording, the influence of this on the Cure can definitely be felt here. It's maybe not quite a classic but The Top is a great Cure album and deserves more credit than it sometimes gets. However, for me Wish and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss me are classic Cure albums and both superior to Bloodflowers.

I agree with you very much with your placements. Pornography has been my favorite since it came out. Faith is also a favorite. I get why you have The Top where it is,as so many do, but I love that quirky work. Kiss Me is fantastic, I think. I love Disintegration and understand why so many have in on top. It has variety and is well produced and, most importantly, great song writing. It's arguably their best, certainly. But Pornography tops it, slightly, for me because of its singular cohesiveness. It's fuckin' dark. It's what I want from The Cure. I respect that Smith and the band looked to move in another direction--artists should (perhaps) not destroy themselves following a destructive path for the sake of creating. Part of me would have, selfishly, liked to have seen the next rung down on that ladder but it wouldn't have been good for them. They've gone on to do so much more and, reflecting, it was obviously a good choice to lighten it up. I admit, I kind of stopped listening to The Cure after Disintegration. I was looking for heavier music and didn't give much of their music too much attention after that. I gave Blood Flowers repeated, fair listen only about 3 years ago. It was as if I had unearthed a new Cure album. Made me VERY happy to feel so sad. "Watching Me Fall" deserves more discussion than it gets, I feel. It's a little long and the dramatic "... watching me faaaaaaaaaaalllll" was a little much. But had they shortened it by maybe 2-3 minutes and relied less on that refrain it would be one of my favorites, maybe. This new album, I fookin' love. The first time I heard "Alone" I thought it merely good but got goosebumps from the experience, nonetheless. Like finding a family member I thought dead. Most of my favorite albums, in general, are ones that were a bit more difficult to really grasp. The whole album has grown on me and has been pretty much every other (avoiding burnout?) album listen since I received it. We'll see how it digests over time but it'll stay up there for me. It's appropriate for where I am in life and makes for a cathartic experience. I'm happy to see that you have enjoyed it so much, as well, and have given it a good spot. A point: no need to revoke anyone's "goth card" for not knowing song names. First, I'm horrible with song names. I'm almost more likely to tell you about how long a track is. Horrible with peoples' names, too. Second, goth is an f'n fashion. Smith, himself, doesn't like the association. All you need to be "goth" is your mum's credit card and a Hot Topic. Lastly, give this album a listen with a good system ON VINYL. The warmth is amazing. Apologies for the long comment but enjoyed your video and felt like it lent itself to a conversational response. Take care and thanks.

WMS was the first Cure album I didn't like. Bloodflowers never really stuck for me, though I've listened to it many times. Just can't bring myself to love it. Actually liked the self-titled album that everyone hates more than I liked BF. The new record is already #4 in my top-5 albums

Just listened to all my Cure albums up to wish - in my option the new record is good but it only stands up to wish. It’s does not ever reach heights anything close to any other album. Unfortunately that band is long gone that made that amazing sound scape.

I mostly agree with your list. I would move Wild Mood Swings, The Cure and 4:13 Dream into the non-essential tier. They are all forgettable. Wild Mood Swings is so annoying it almost makes me angry. I have donated all 3 of those CDs to my local goodwill since I have no desire to ever listen to them again. In the top tier time will tell but I think Songs Of A Lost World may very well end up being their #2 all-time album behind Disintegration. It’s that good.

The Cure is one of my all-time fav bands, so I just don't have the heart to really trash anything they've ever done.... but if I ever decide to get hardcore on this, I would likely agree with you. Those three albums lack 'magic'.....

Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. There's too much wrong with The Top IMO. I don't hate it or anything like that, but if I find myself in the mood to revisit an old Cure album, it's never that one.
@borislavvonberlichingen539414 күн бұрын
Just my humble opinion. Classic: 17 seconds (it is one of their best albums ever, so unique), faith, pornography, disintegration. Wish could have been a Classic by replacing some of the b-sides with the mediocre tracks of Wish. I'd see three imaginary boys as great because of the title song. It's the first song which was different. Songs of a lost world - I'm not sure, but it's at least a "Great". The production is sometimes a bit too loud in my opinion.

I would place only Head On The Door and Disintegration in the Classic Tier for studio albums. Songs of a Lost World has no creative spark. I like Alone, but the heavy theme of the album, its repetitive song structures (do you really need a long intro almost every time? It's unnecessary), there are no risks musically, no shifts in tempo. I'm surprised there hasn't been a dark wave of suicide within the goth culture. With Trump's return to power, I wouldn't fault them. But this is a dirge. Not what I expected after 16 years. Yes, the mood is consistent. A great album if your idea of enjoyment is attending funerals and sitting bedside to a terminally ill Hospice patient in a coma. I would place it in the Good category mainly because I cannot fathom under what conditions in my life I would want to listen to this. I've seen death, I've experienced almost unbearable loss, I've indulged depression and sadness. Life is too short.

lets be honest the bar has been set very low since wish... yes blood flowers had 3 or 4 good songs but since then its been pretty dire... that's almost a quarter of a century of nothing... A touring, cash cow playing back catalogue but offering nothing worthy new.. whilst the new album is ok, its very lyrically tired, Smith is a man who's been saying the longest goodbye in history.. its cold its dark, i'm lost its the end.. 1) pornography 2) faith 3) 17 seconds 4) disintegration 5) wish 6) head on the door 7) bloodflowers 8) kiss me kiss me 9) 3 imaginary boys 10) songs of a lost world...

can't understand the love for the new album --- its so lyrically weak...i'm lost, alone, its dark, its cold, its the end, lament... we've heard it all before and done much better... its not terrible, it just par for the course like many 80s bands recent releases.. its an average ok ish Lp but not a patch on 17 seconds, faith, pornograpy and disintegration.. i think that in time people will come to their senses and re evaluate songs of a lost world... i do understand the desperation for something new to like... its not terrible, its just very formulaic..... almost like it was made by a tribute band...

It might be perceived as blasphemous, but I would move The Top to "good", and the last LP to "ok" ... I found this very boring, uninspired, almost a caricature. I would have loved to see Faith and Wish as classics but this can't be said because of weak tracks like like Wendy Time, Doubt, Cut ...
