when you are measuring the trans temp, do you reference the oil pan temp or the temp at the torque converter? In my GX, the Torque converter can see temps 15-20 degrees hotter than the pan temp

On road Lexus wins hands down. But who gets a 4x4 for pavement driving? Runner wins as for 4x4; lexus to drive around the mall with great "luxury" features. There is no reason to get a GX 460 for off-roading requiring spending so much on mods to be a mediocre 4x4, it's just an SUV disguised as a 4x4.

I’m looking at the “Tacoma HC Tube Bumper w/ Tire Swingout” with tree savers since I need a solution for my 295 spare. Looking for a tube bumper to match my tube front and this out gear looks to be it, but I’m nervous the tire will bounce. Any thought on this? Would I have to dab a side weld too?

If I get an elk, then I definitely need to clean up. Great job describing the build step by step. I hope to have your design this fall for my elk hunt. Thanks a lot. The Outgear Solutions bumper is the only rear bumper I’ve found that I’ve actually liked. I wanted a tube rear with single swing (for same large table option) with the 1/4 panel tree savers and I wanted a hitch which a lot of tube rears don’t have or are poorly integrated. I will definitely have to remember and save this video because I will be doing the extra cross bars regardless of the hammering. I will likely be getting a custom front bumper made from Drew’s Fab to keep that tube style for the bumpers. I’m still on the fence for under armor skid plates. But I will be getting the WC Dirt King 3.5 long travel front and rear and that’s why I’m going tube for lighter weight just a tire & single gas and utilize the roof rack for other stuff. Great video and great ideas! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

Just a thought to potentially get over the issue of removing / inserting the inner bin liner… could you change the type of bin liner you use? The one in the video looks like a large refuge sack style, which I understand will fill to its full shape once removed. If you used a narrower bin liner (e.g. pedal style liner) which is a narrower shape, would this stop it from expanding as much once removed? Just a thought

Im not here to argue or debate but I will say I own a set of full aluminum skids on my GX470 made by RCI, I have beat the living s&%t out of my skids the past 2 years hitting a lot more then fire roads, I have 3 and 2 wheeled my setup many times sitting in nothing but these skids, yes they have slightly deformed in some areas but overall they have taken the beating, no welds have ever cracked and my engine and trany temps have always statyed normal, the only issues I ever had was my diff drop bolts hit the front skid plate so I drilled 3" relief holes and then covered them with 1/4" aluminum plate thats riveted on, my y-pipe on the drivers side was also hitting the trany skid plate where the edge is bent and I had to trim it slightly, other then that they have held up, maybe I got the unicorn batch of aluminum skids made on a wedneaday but I can not complain, they have held up great for me.

Copper transmission coolers transfer heat up to 70% more efficiently than aluminum transmission coolers. That might explain why you needed to use more than one, taking up so much space. Excellent video thanks for sharing your insights!

wish i would have seen your video sooner, i fabricated my own bumper and right now I am failing the tire punch test. I get significant shake. What would be the best way to reinforce that area to reduce shake? I think I got that much shake cause I wanted the tire to slant into the gate instead of sit straight.

@@SandyCats Im happy with the bumper itself, I welded 2 brackets on the oem crash bar cross member so its bolt on and I can remove to make more modifications if I need to. Right now its just the swing arm that I am not happy with. After I put the tire, I have to do a slight lift for it to go up and over and lock. Im probably going to give another design a shot and spend a bit more on a better latch system.

Jetboil must be paying you a lot of money to get rid of a $500 stove, because you can't manage the flame, to buy another $500 stove that has to be put together and takes 6 turns to turn off. Oh and the pans suck. I will take a used coleman or maybe a cheap rocket stove any day and spend the extra $450 on, i don't know, a bunch of other stuff.

As much as I prefer the looks of an OD Green Can, I think I'd get a black can for use with the shower for a bit of solar action. That being said, the thirty gallon tank inside my white cargo trailer conversion is warm in the afternoon on warm weather trips when a shower is really appreciated, so the OD Green can in the sun will probably be fine. I also use Mando Deodorant when I'm going to be in the field. I use the unscented version because I'm usually hunting when I'm using the trailer.

I have a full set of aluminum RCI skids on my 4Runner. After a day on some very rocky trails, I had one very noticeable dent in the leading edge of the front skid and one side was pushed up near the back of the skid. The dent in the front was my fault for going through some water too fast and hitting a big rock, oops. None of the welds were cracked or broken, so I just pounded the skid back into something approaching its original shape. The transmission skid and transfer case skid had a few minor scuffs, but were otherwise unharmed. Since you can buy the skids separately, one compromise might be to use a steel skid at the front and aluminum behind - I may do this once my front skid gets too beat up to be serviceable. The 4Runner is my daily driver and I don't do hard-core rock crawling with it, so the weight is a serious consideration.

Brother, thank you SO MUCH. This is the single most informative video I have watched (and I've watched a lot) regarding setting up a GX460 properly. I bought my 14 GX 2 years ago with 35s and an Old Man Emu lift already on it. The more research I did, the more I realized that the guy before had no idea what he was doing. I've downsized to 33" KO2s, added rear drop spacers, Panhard Correction, KDSS Adapter Plates & Brackets. She now rides way better, even though I've still got lots more work to do on her. Question: Any idea if it's possible to hit a bump hard enough to bend the sway bar? Installation of my KDSS Adapter Plates and Brackets was REALLY difficult because I would get the sway bar and bushing aligned on one side and attach it loosely, but then the other side was extremely difficult to align the bushing and bracket. I've been to multiple shops, and they haven't been able to find anything bent. Because of how the sway bar is made, it's super difficult to eyeball if it's out of whack at one end, or if it's instead one of the LCAs. Any suggestions?
@SandyCats
@SandyCats 2 ай бұрын
I would say it’s impossible to bend the KDSS sway bar. That thing is super thick. Something else will bend/break first. The thinner links that hold the sway bar can be bent. I’d check that… I’ve actually bent one before in my rear.
@mrlafalot
@mrlafalot 2 ай бұрын
@@SandyCats What thinner links are you referring to? After thinking more about your video, and what you said about gussetted spindles, I slid under the GX last night to have a look. I'm wondering if I slightly bent the passenger spindle. Specifically, the tie rod connection is about half the distance from the brake shield as the driver's side. Small I know, but it's the only real difference I could find. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to fix before this trip to Big Bend (this Thursday), so it'll be soon after that I'll be installing new gussetted spindles with Koyo Bearings already installed on them. Lastly, my steering seems to have some sway in it. Is that the steering rack damage you were referring to? If so, how hard is that thing to replace? Sucks going down the highway with my GX drifting back and forth. 😮‍💨
