wouldnt it made more sense to use traditional rockets to get it to space then use the atom bomb engine.

Personally I'm going with the Krakatoa Volcanic Explosion as the largest non-nuclear explosion in history. Heck, I'll put it down as the largest explosion period, and that includes the Tsar Bomba.

Nothing but a bunch of whiny bitches on here bitching and moaning. If you cunts don't like it then go start your own channel and invest money and time in it. Anyone with half a brain knows this is loosely based historical videos for mere entertainment. If you're looking to these videos for historical accuracies and top-notch budget visuals then you should be fitted for a helmet and riding the short bus. Plus none of you ass clowns are actual military historians and if you are then how about you start your own channel instead of shitting all over someone else's channel ? Most of you clowns merely googled what you wanted to bitch about so you can sound like you actually knew what you were talking about. Get a life and shut the hell up. And go change your tampon because it's in sideways.

The thing that is a damn shame, can you imagine what the Nazi scientists working for the Russians and the US could have achieved if they worked together while parts of both countries instead of competing. If we could have skipped the cold war too I would imagine we would be far more advanced.

They lie to us about everything else, why not lie to us about how advanced we really are in space exploration?? Not saying "the moon landing was faked" more like, I am doubtful that was the first time, and doubtful we haven't been to other planets...who knows what is really going on, with the lack of transparency and cover ups.

Free NASA from oversight by Congress like SpaceX, a private company can, and you will reach the moon by 2028 my American friends. There are so many regulations on NASA which stifle it as a government arm that it can no longer do stuff it could when stodgy old geezers weren't looking to hand off money to their friends and lobbyists in industry. For those dissing this as a demonstrator and kinda tiny compared to Starship, NASA went from the first Gemini launch in 1964 to the Space Shuttle in 1981, seventeen years. What has SpaceX achieved nearly thirty years after this flight happened? NASA essentially gave them the playbook on engineering and aerodynamic data on which both mentioned spacecraft are based. This was 60 million in 1996 so 119-120 million today. It took Musk 2 billion in today's money to make Starship have a demonstrator flight.

Solar sails were a great idea, -smallish capsule, moderate payload, free propulsion- and we've known how to sail since before color TV. Imagine a fleet of sails running orbits between the Earth and Moon. Or Mars. Or to the Outer Planets. What would be the long term value of going to the moon by going just to high Earth orbit? Rendezvous with a sail for the long haul. To the moon every month. To Mars every quarter. To the outer planets with different projects every yeat or two. Or sit on Earth thinking up ever not quite working alternatives decade after decade. Solar sails would be the long haul space trucks that get cheaper with every use. Designed on a standard blueprint, they could be made on assembly lines. Massive savings on design, materials, assembly, fuel for the booster rockets to shuttle between Earth and the sails. Extremely uncomplicated workhorses that just go around and around in their orbit. That like every early spacecraft could be plotted with slide rules, protractors, and a drafting desk. But the cost !?! Space sails were one of the most shortsighted budget cut casualties since the early 70'. Especially in light of the ridiculous projects to get government military/industrial golden goose funding.

Unfortunately the new Soviet president Mr. Brezhnev was not very interested in space programs and he was putting spokes in the chief rocket engineer's wheels. The chief rocket engineer, Sergey Korolev, was responsible for designing all the rockets and spacecrafts. Korolev started the soviet moon program but unfortunately he developed health complications from all this political arguing with the new president and died on 1966 during surgery. All the soviet Moon and Mars program died with him. Two decades will pass before a new successor emerges.
