I wanted one of those so badly when they came out, never ended up getting one but now that I've been playing for a lot of years I realize I would hate that guitar, currently trying to source a Rgt3120 or 3170 for a reasonable cost. Basically that guitar with a better neck and a working trem. it sucks that the prestige models with a neck through are so rare.

Do you know what model's routing are compatible with which tremelo? I have a RG-350DX project guitar that i would like to upgrade with a better tremelo with no routing. I'm seeing conflicting info online but it looks like from what you're saying the Edge Pro II, or maybe even the Edge Pro?

get a kitchen green scouring pad 'scotchbrite' and rub the back of the neck until it is satin/slippery. If you are worried, Try it on a inconspicuous surface that nobody will see, like your mums bum.

I have a 2003 RG 220 B it. Only info I have is that it has an Edge Pro II. My Trem bar screws in.
@Ibbyhead
@Ibbyhead 23 күн бұрын
Maybe it's an earlier version with the ILT1 bridge - it had the screw in bar. The specs don't shift on the switch of the year - usually actually earlier, because they need to produce models for catalogue shots etc. But maybe there was some oddball that got fitted with the old spec in 2003. Or Older bodied mated to the newer neck.

Some of the earlier 3120s indeed have the j.custom serial numbers and moreover have j.custom markings in the neck pocket, so it is not really that a big stretch to say they were made by the custom luthiers at Fujigen. I would have to disagree with you a little on the 90's j.custom and RG5320 comparison though.. since even though the 5320 sits at a pretty high price point, the j.customs (at least of the 90's) are/were simply a cut above in quality and craftsmanship. Interestingly, there seemed to have been a 1997 RG3120 SLK with JPM routing as well produced, but that one is so exceedingly rare that I haven't seen but one on the internets. The original strap pins on these were the Gotoh Free Lock strap locks that Ibanez still puts on their j.customs, but they were changed out to regular strap pins sometime during the guitar's production history. The Gotohs are quite difficult to source nowadays and fetch a pretty penny. I own a few 3120s and love them to death, fantastic and surprisingly versatile guitars. Don't really care for the 2003 versions or 3120F's with Edge Pro's.

Thanks for comment and clarifications! Yeah, I may have misspoke there, I thought more about 3000-level Prestige of that era were somewhat on the level of the current 5000-level. Looking at some archives and older threads on the internet, early J.Custom were super hard to get outside of Japan and indeed something very very special. Really cool fact about that JPM routed RG3120. Now I have a new unicorn to look for :D
@Socomite
@Socomite Ай бұрын
@@Ibbyhead I have no doubt the j.customs were very hard to get outside of Japan back in the 90s.. even nowadays it's not every dealer that gets access to new ones! So I fathom this must have been even more exclusive back when they were the new new thing. Going beyond that, the Japanese only Ibanez world is just.. well, in one word it's weird :D You have tons of spot models that were only released in Japan, and sometimes only to some specific dealers. Not only that, but you see some supremely odd combinations like the JPM 3120, and all kinds of things. For the uninitiated it would seem that some of those were just stuff the guys at the factory whipped up from leftover parts. The 3120SLK was just a very odd find, it had the big center abalone dots that normal SLKs had plus the prestige emblem on the 24th fret, but the body routing was a JPM. And of course it had a flame maple top and was finished in transparent black.. there was one for sale in Italy years back and that's where I spotted it. A friend of mine got into talks with the seller and I think he got the neck pocket stamps and other details to verify that it wasn't an aftermarket body, but the sale fell through in the end. To end on a positive note, if you're looking for unique Ibanez guitars, there are a lot to be found!

I used to own this exact same model back in 1991/2. Thanks for the video - i didn’t know much about the guitar despite them being very rare and there’s almost nothing written about the violet sunbursts. Back then, I had no idea what I was buying but sort of copied my friend who owned the rose-painted Steve Vai Ibanez and it played great but wanted one without those graphics 😅 Loved the violet sunburst against the golden hardware. It was a perfect player and I sometimes regret selling it. I’ve not seen another RG570GF in violet sunburst come up for sale ever since 💆 I wasn’t a fan of the locked headstock and whammy - at the time I was more into traditional guitars like Stratocasters and Teles., still am but I wouldn’t mind having tje RG570’back in my collection.

Your question: was there an Ibanez your viewers really wanted to have, and did they get it? Yes! It was the MC500v2 (9-piece neck). Finally found one on eBay in Switzerland (I'm in the US). I've also collected other Musician series: MC200, MC300, MC400 (with flight case, and the extremely rare-as-hen's-teeth PS-903 12v power supply for the active electronics ) from the original owner, and MC900 (bass), all of them 1978 - early 1980. There is something about how the Musicians play, feel, look, and sound that created my obsession. I also have the 2003 MMM1, which is why/how I found you on YT. It's in double-drop-A-sharp tuning, and I play it for ambient compositions. Thanks for your videos. Peace, be well.

I always watch out 4 important things. 1. Type of woods they use for neck. 2. Type of woods they use for body.( by knocking on the body). To rule out cheap plywood or chipboard equivalent). These woods always sounds loud/hollow or plastic like. 3. Type of frets they used 4. Constructions of neck join. I hate to say this but some higher range low end guitar by famous brand, have unbelievable aweful neck join. Worksmanship/qc thing between countries is a hit and miss thing. Electronic parts can be upgraded anytime.

@Ibbyhead
@Ibbyhead 6 ай бұрын
I think they're all great, but each has some upside. Usually people say that Lo Pro Edge and Original Edge are equally "the best tier" and Edge Pro is slightly below. They have slightly different feel, because the force arm is longer on lo pro and it's a bit stiffer, but I find it very comfy with that low profile. The biggest problem people have with the Edge Pro is that it doesn't have locking posts and this can lead to tuning issues. This is an easy upgrade.
