I grew up in Buddhist household and I can consider myself as a moderate Buddhist. I know that religions are kind of use to control the mass or used by some malicious individuals for their own personal gains. I don't really care about what they believe unless they don't force their beliefs upon others and morally condemn those who went against their religiously dictated norms by using well... Bible, Quran or Torah to justify their hatred against women, sexual minorities and others that protest established religions. I don't really believe in some high tiered spirits who would morally dictate us and punish us if we go against them. Like I said I'm a moderate Buddhist but at the same time, I somehow become an irreligious person due to people weaponizing religion to cause moral panics that only hurts others who are just minding their own business.

This is an interesting little video for me to have stumbled upon, but I'm not at all upset about it - I love hearing people's perspectives on religion and the like (I'm an atheist myself, but still have a liking for the subject). If you're still open to answering a question or two - I'd like to fixate on a bit at the end where you mention how people twist the bible to mean what they wish it to - leading to "hardline conservative" churches and churches with "rainbow flags" out front. I think I understand what you mean by the former, but not really the latter. Is the issue adjacent to some form of idolatry, where a church is prominently displaying earthly symbols that have no right being there, or is the issue with the church showing it's support for queer identities? (I imagine it could very easily be both) Feel free to not pay any mind to this, I'd just love to have a dialogue - I'm not seeking to rip into your positions.

How do you think your beliefs stack up with what is known as the "Church of Christ" and how do you think your vision for how the church should operate moving forward compares to the way Churches of Christ operate? As a member of a Church of Christ, I would say about every belief/method of organization mentioned in this video is shared with the Church of Christ, excepting predestination. Keep in mind that the Church of Christ is a congregational church, meaning each congregation interprets the bible and consequently their beliefs how they see fit. While I find that, after visiting somewhere in the number of 100 or more congregations over the years in the continental United States, most every congregation holds virtually the same beliefs, there are some that vary widely and, in my opinion, should not bear the name of "Church of Christ" as their beliefs are more in line with other denominations. Hopefully these questions are specific enough to invite a proper answer/investigation into the Church of Christ on your part.

@jollybrown4847
@jollybrown4847 Ай бұрын
@JaimeFromHuruleVGM, that's actually a really good place to be. And you are totally right, this isn't a question that humans should answer, because it is too big for us to fully understand. What myself, and many other Christians believe is that it is God - the Creator of heaven and earth and all that is on the earth - who, in his love and grace, has revealed and showed some of what the answer is to us. We don't believe that we have the answer but that God has told us and given us and blessed us with the as much of the answer as we need to know: that we are made by God, that we all fall short of being worthy enough to know Him, that he loved us so much that he sacrificed his own Son's life to redeem us and pay the ransom cost for us to escape not only the eternal punishment of hell but also give us true fulfilled life while we are here, and that salvation is a free gift we can have by accepting Jesus as our Christ saviour, and our Lord and king. This fact, of us not being the ones to figure out the answer, or come up with what *we* think, is all throughout the bible, but potentially the clearest of which is in (Mark and Luke as well but with most detail-) in Matthew 16:13-20. Jesus asks the disciples who the people of the world say that he is, and they list of a few theories that the people seem to have, a few old testament prophets, John the baptist with his head back on, and for sure there would be more than the few examples they gave. But then Jesus asks them who they think Jesus is and Simon (also called Peter) responds on behalf of the group by saying “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” And then Jesus doesn't say anything like 'yep l, well done for figuring it out.' or 'it took you long enough' Instead he says that it isn't his own cleverness or his IQ, or all his academic and religious studies that has allowed him to know this (his 'flesh and blood') But Jesus says that it is actually His Father in heaven, who has revealed it to the disciples.

You do have a point about the lack of emotion. That cache of water being destroyed would be devastating to the Fremen. However... emotion for killing the Baron? Oh. Please. The Baron tried to kill Paul and his mother. Why the hell would he feel remorse at taking revenge for that? Especially since in the novel it's ALIA who kills the Baron. Not having her kill the Baron has completely screwed her character for Dune Messiah. Villeneuve is an idiot. And remorse for killing Feyd-Rautha? Again, why should he? Feyd would happily kill Paul. Feyd doesn't give a crap about Paul as a person to get to know. He's just one more obstacle in the Harkonnens' own ambitions. As for Chani and Irulan, you haven't read much history, have you? This is how royal marriages happened for thousands of years. You don't necessarily get to marry for love. Paul married Irulan because she's Shaddam's oldest daughter and he had no sons. It's the quickest way to get power, though he actually could have taken the throne by inheritance (Duke Leto was the Emperor's cousin). He doesn't love Irulan, though. It's Chani he loves (not sure why, given how much scowling she does in this movie; the book version of Chani was still tough-minded but a hell of a lot more pleasant).

OMFG. Where do I even start. If you're going to start accusing FRANK HERBERT of stealing from your precious Christianity, read some history. Your precious Christianity and your precious Testaments stole shamelessly from much older civilizations. Noah was plagiarized from the story of Gilgamesh, and that's just one example. There are so many more, including the notion of the virgin birth, the messiah who dies and is reborn, and on and on and on. Before you spout off as though you understand what Dune is about (you really don't), READ THE BOOK. There are several main themes in Dune. The first one - which was made part of the in-universe religion followed by the people of the Imperium - is "thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind." In other words: Don't make computers that mimic human intelligence. Doing so is forbidden. It's considered anathema. It's also written into the holy text they use, which is called the Orange Catholic Bible. The second one is the most obvious one, that you seem to have completely missed. It's very simple, and is obviously relevant in today's sociopolitical climate: "Beware the charismatic leader." Paul Atreides was never the hero of the Dune books. That was made clear in the novels, but apparently there are a lot of American movie-goers who are too lazy to read the book and so conditioned that their movies must have a "good guy" as the protagonist that this point just whooshes over the heads of most. Third: The Litany Against Fear. So many people just don't get that this is a way for people to calm themselves in dangerous situations where fear may cause them to make mistakes and bring about a bad consequence that could include death. Something scary happens. You calm yourself, you face your fear. Acknowledge it and then move on. Think your way out of the situation and survive. Fourth: Again, religion. READ THE BOOK. This book takes place over 20,000 years in the future. Newsflash: I know you think your religion is special, but it really isn't that special. Religions come and go, and sometimes they get influenced by or absorbed into other religions. The Fremen are also known as the Zensunni Wanderers. There are elements of Buddhism and Islam in their religion, plus a bit of this and that that they picked up on planets their people were on before coming to Arrakis several thousand years before.

I didn't find Dune 2 good at all...psychologically flat...the most exciting scene was completely left out (the sex scene between the young psychopath and Bene-Geserit, which is only mentioned), Paul's inner conflict is abstract, I did didn't feel it...and there's only a fight between the bad guys and the insanely evil ones, of course you don't want the insanely bad guys to win with their evil bathing rituals, but you're not for the Fremen either, it is There is no beautiful utopia in the film at all...they could all die in the film, are you shocked? Not me... The film should have portrayed the main character's conflict, the love between him and Chani and the Fremen as a community that you as a viewer can also like (with all its flaws) in a believable and touching way... it would have needed more time, not for that the far too many monumental scenes... (why don't you show a brief excerpt of the cheering crowd in the arena scene so that you can also see the fanatical people, not just a cheering crowd??) I think a good epic film shows the good guys, including their vulnerable side, a very good epic film also shows a vulnerable side of the bad guys...in Dune, no one was really vulnerable and human...everyone is hollow fighting machines. ..boring. I know this isn't a sci-fi example, but Lord of the Rings also tells its story through its characters, a lot of time is devoted to their inner conflicts, we can understand them and have the impression that we, as viewers, are on the journey . This is how stories have to be made into films. The different characters in Dune 2 were also kind of boring, to exaggerate one could say, actually they are all Paul Atreides: the unborn sister is Paul at the beginning of his life, Vladimir Harkonnen is Paul at the end of his life, the mother, Chani, etc. are his Intermediate stages... I also find it particularly annoying that reference is made again and again to thousands of years old studies and collection of knowledge by, for example, the Bene-Geserit, but NO ONE in this story has even the slightest shred of wisdom...humanity would have died out long ago... It's a shame, the film could have been good...

I don't agree with all of your points, even though I wasn't a fan of the movie either. Most of my problems with Dune Pt 2 are how they dumbed down the message, plot, and worldbuilding for a moviegoing audience. A large part of Dune's story and message is about how power structures centralize, become stagnant, and attract corruption. In the book, this point is communicated by having various political factions that vie for power whilst being symbiotically dependent on each other. These factions include the Emperor, who represents military power, the Bene Gesserit, who represent cultural power and espionage, the Navigators, who hold a monopoly over the means of space travel, CHOAM, which represents economic power, and the Landsraad, the decentralized feudal lords who actually directly rule over the majority of humanity. Its not an accident that the direct rulers (the Landsraad) are the least powerful of these factions. Villeneuve completely cuts out the Navigators and CHOAM. He never even explains exactly why the Spice is necessary for space travel, just that it is. He also weakens the Emperor to the point at which he comes across as a complete figurehead who is destined to be destroyed. Sure, the Emperor doesn't have absolute power and is undercut by the Bene Gesserit and challenged by the Landsraad. However, he is supposed to have agency, to have his own place within this symbiotic web of political relationships. In the book, the end is potent because Paul uses his power over the spice to break this complex web of symbiotic monopolies and establish his own power. He does this through extremely violent means (galactic jihad), but its made clear the reader that this might very well have been the only way through. VIlleneuve pays lip service to this idea, but never explains it or introduces the the necessary concepts to justify it. Villeneuve's Dune is basically just Star Wars with a lots of extra hand wringing over the horrors of war and the fanaticism of religion.

The thing you are missing is that these films have done the exact same thing Jackson did with Lord of the Rings. They are compressing what could be a much longer film into lord of the rings sized movies. I also really enjoy extended lord of the rings, but if you aren't invested in the world-building of Dune as much as you are with LOTR then there's no point in making the claim that Dune Part Two is a bad movie.
