When I was in Lisbon, I got the impression that the locals were unaware or didn't care. I had one gentleman who just pointed that there was room beside him, and he was just standing on the bike path.

Not sure if it is a good thing, but most of the cycle lanes where I live are shocking and not fit for cycling and definitely unfit for pedestrians.

As these paths, outside of the Netherlands, tend not to be part of a coherent system there's simply not enough cyclists to make them unpleasant to walk on.

I lived in Lisbon for three years and cycled almost every day. I have to say the terrible quality of driving is astonishing and is part of the reason I moved away. A lot of drivers simply do not know the rules of the road and nearly everyone is in a crazy rush and extremely selfish when driving. It’s so strange because people in person are the complete opposite, the nicest people I’ve ever met were there.
