I have a chance to buy the Q3 28 used with a couple of accessories for $3500. It has a couple of blemishes. On the top plate is a coating mark that only shows up at certain angles. The more troublesome blemish is on the top of the flippy screen with the paint scraping off from the action of moving the screen in and out. Have you Hudson or anyone else experienced this? And is the camera still worth it for $3500?

For a "power-delivery-capable" camera, sure. But we have to keep in mind that many cameras can charge from USB only while switched off. And here's the kicker; I'd wager the vast majority of cameras in use don't have either capability. Besides that, a battery bank is only as good as one's habit of keeping it topped off. If one develops the habit of relying on a high-capacity battery pack that just goes and goes, one is at great risk of forgetting that things need charging. For me, having a spare battery that I know is topped off is a better option. For my older DSLRs, it's the only option.

I've been looking for a replacememt, and really want the best of both worlds, since I'm a videographer just as much as photographer. After debating between the Z6III and the Z8, this one sounds to be perfect. My d610 has carried me for 12 years. This will feel like a super charged sportscar compared to that. I just hope I can use it for cinema work as well. You know anything about that?

Charging through usb means sending current through the mainboard, I wouldn’t do it all the time at least.

Been doing it for 3 years on my Z9 now. 100s of cycles. Nikon built it to do it and I've never charged it any other way. It's built for PD power input.

Great ideas Hudson. The one spare camera battery is good idea just in case you have a charging issue with one which can happen. I have a 24K Anker I love but a bit heavy. Been looking at the Nitecore carbon fiber one that seems to be substantially lighter. I did buy the Minix and agree it's amazing. Thanks.

My Anker Power Core III unit saved my a$$ on a shoot when I dumbly missed packing an extra battery for my Z9...it was a long marching band show and there was an hour break for dinner, I'm about 3500 shots in and went to the pocket with my extra batteries and, uh-oh! Well, I plugged the camera into the Anker and by the time break was over I was at 80%...whew!

I’m almost 100% certain you can not charge via PD while the camera is on with the z6iii. The camera has to be off in my experience in order to charge through the usb-c port. Unless I’m missing something in the manual.

Nope. Incorrect. Try it. i did several long night shoots on PD power with the Z6iii I reviewed. It works on every Nikon Z since the Z6ii and Z7ii launched including even the Zfc, Z30 and Z50ii.

I bought the new Anker Power Bank before I saw your video - currently discounted to £69.99 in the UK. My current Anker Power Bank won’t charge a Leica! Off to NZ shortly and my wall charger does have the right plug. I’ve bought a Tessan 140w Universal Travel adapter which takes a standard plug, USB-C and USB-A. Short Thunderbolt 5 cables will also be coming along on the trip.

A word of warning ... a Canon R5 needs more than this, and although I know my battery pack is large enough to use to both power and charge it, it is nigh-on impossible to find the actual values required (I did, once, and cannot find it again!). Also, thete is talk that the R5's behaviour changes when you have the battery grip (with 2 batteries) attached. Get the biggest possible PD output you can!

what transfer speed ar on Lexar® Professional CFexpress™ Type B USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Reader . i seomwhere that this reade should have 1700MB/s W/R speed. is it accurate?
@HudsonHenryPhotoКүн бұрын
That's only true for the rare rare computers equipped with the dual usb port 3.2 Gen 2x2. I've never actually seen one. It's a false start tech, surpassed before adoption by the incoming USB4. Otherwise the 2x2 speed is all theoretical. You'll be lucky to get half that on standard USB 3.2 or thunderbolt. I get annoyed by Samsungs T9 drives and lexar charging premiums for 2x2 speeds no one will achieve.the T9 drive is the same speed as the T7 on my Mac Studio's thunderbolt and my PCs USB4 ports.

My first experience with photography began with 35mm Minoltas back in the mid-1980s. I just upgraded to the Z50ii w/two-lens kit from a D5100. This little camera is incredible and the kit lenses have exceeded my expectations. Now I am deciding on my first Z prime and had been leaning towards either the Dx 24mm f1.7 or the Viltrox 23mm. I think instead, I may wait until I have some more money in the hobby fund and make a Voigtlander my first Z mount prime.

I manually changed my settings, then formatted my Z8 before I uploaded the new firmware. Yup, I wiped out all my changes! Having your settings on a card saved the day! I am v. grateful. (Formatting cards in Z8 makes me quiver)! I notice that the Lens control ring settings (bottom of the Custom controls options), for CUSTOM B and CUSTOM D show M/A, whereas on your video it shows Aperture. Could you please verify which setting you use? My 2025 goal is to become comfortable with my Z8 camera! Thank you SO much.

7:19 It should be noted that the VSGO comes with a proprietary USB-A to USB-C cable and does not have a charging indicator. Both are signs of off the shelf battery units and charging chips which are often cheap because they don't meet USB-C standards. Very highly likely that the battery will crap out soon like mine did after one charge cycle. Depending on your luck your mileage will vary

Rather than screwing the step-up rings onto smaller lenses, could I just put one of those inlaid magnetic rings on every lens, and a magnetic adapter on every step-up ring, so that I can just snap the step-up ring on and off just like the filters themselves?

@HudsonHenryPhoto6 күн бұрын
@@BillM-jz1ye in this video I explain why I don't worry at all about that. That lens and all the new glass are so good shooting into backlight with their epic Coatings and Optical designs that the hood is really just an impact bumper. I really never use a hood with that lens. A filter does that job just fine. The only Hood I really use anymore is on the 100 to 400 and the 400TC to protect the front elements of those long lenses.
