From using waterslide decals in modelling and other uses, I would suggest getting MicroSol and MicroSet solutions (about $15) to put the decals on. Just using the water is okay, but if you use these it goes from being a waterslide look to really being part of the guitar, like it is a more expensive process to get the image on there. Worth it.

I`ve been following you on and off on YT, and I must say that you really dont get the attention you deserve. The quality of your work seems outstanding, and I really like your way of building. BTW, I`ve always ment that the hardest part to design in electrical guitar building is the headstock, the Fenders and Gibsons are floating around in every musicans consciousness. But you really nailed it! Keep up the good work, thanks!
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars5 ай бұрын
Hey man, thank you so much for that! Glad you took time to comment. Lets hope it's not like a Van Gough thing. LOL Famous after death. Yes well Fender came after me so I had a choice to make. So I redesigned the tele into the Sherwood Classic and got to play with the shapes and design. I have to say I agree. The headstock, my pick guard and body shape nails it while showing the inspiration behind it. I actually just did a post on my LinkedIn talking about just that. It took an intense moment which in life is what can happen, will we falter or shine. I try to always shine.

I can certainly appreciate the “time is money” argument from a pro builder’s perspective. As a hobby builder, though, I couldn’t justify spending that much money. I don’t need three-minute cure times so I went with AquaCoat and it worked well for me.

How easy is it to sand back? I am looking for a good option to fill some black Limba that has a very similar look as your palwonia. I want something clear as the wood has several brown tones and I don't want to try and color match anything. I know some use epoxy but I like the idea of not mixing anything.

Hey Wiliam just wondering where you purchased the menzerna polishes 1000-3500 and the red, yellow and blue pads, can’t find those on wood essence site.
I feel very much as you do when it comes to building a guitar, although the Tele, Strat, PRS etc... are all beautiful guitars I prefer to do my own take on these and hopefully making them better in a sense of ergonomic design and playability. You are absolutely correct that the neck is an extremely important part of the guitar. My friend and I have recently built an overhead/pin router that has greatly decreased the neck shaping process for me. I am retired and my arms cannot handle hours of hand carving (although I love it, my wrists cannot handle it due to having snapped them both in half). The overhead router and jigs allow me to cut the initial profile then I can fine tune the shape and thickness at the first and twelfth frets. It’s also great for putting any angle in a neck heel, I prefer putting the angle in the heel as opposed to the pocket when using a tune a matic or wraparound. I would like to share some of my resources with you such as my Canadian handmade custom pickups, Peg City pickups owned by my friend Kris Remillard, fantastic pickups at a much lower cost than the Fralin and Lollars and every bit as good. Please mention my name if you are wanting to try some of his pickups. I use his exclusively other than for some five or six string basses where I buy from Nordstrand audio. I also have a great source for a fantastic tremolo that you can even drop tune with. I do not build guitars for a living but for the sheer enjoyment of it, to have someone pickup one of my instruments and love it is the most satisfying thing for me. Regards Maurice
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars6 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes I've used Pegcity in two builds. The two after this one. A pin router is a nice machine to have. I use my neck shaping jig.

Hello Wiliam, another great finishing video, very informative and well explained, did you use the Anthem finish on this burst tele? Just a few more questions, when dry sanding with the 800,1000,1200 do sand the edges at all? I think you mentioned in the video that you don’t touch the edges when polishing, is that correct. Thanks again for all he great info. I have been buying some parts to build a buffing station but am wondering if I should just invest in a polisher and use the menzerna polishes. Do like it better than using a buffing wheel and dry polishes? Regards Maurice
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars6 ай бұрын
Hi Maurice. I sand the sides but not the corners or what I call roundover. During polishing it does graze the corner a bit. I much prefer this method over a station. That my personal preference.

If you want to see how resonant Paulownia is ... buy a $100 import guitar. Use a large swimming pool pickup cavity (the bender mechanism will suffice) and a hard abs single ply pickguard (or bender cover), plus a hard shell epoxy-type finish coat and it will sound like a semi hollow body guitar. Give him a 4-way switch to have series humbucking mode available for hum-noisy gigs. Some complain about screw pull-out but I've never had that problem, the bender may have pivots and string mounts that need superglue soaked in or maybe a large maple/hardwood dowl-puck glued in.

Just wondering when when you were you level sanded did you do the sides and do you do the edges? Do you use a sanding sealer after the Solarez grain fill? Do you level sand the sanding sealer? Do you level sand the colour before applying the clear coat?
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars6 ай бұрын
I level sand the sides and only the roundover if needed. I sealed it first then the solarez. I did sand the color in previous sprays but only to fit an issue like a sag. Then reshoot then clear.

What’s the biggest advantages of doing one small area at time? I’ve never tried that since I’m afraid that the area between those areas are going to be more sanded and therefore show visible “lines”. Not sure how to describe it..
@ScheltemaBoutiqueGuitars6 ай бұрын
Thanks for asking. For me there is little to no pressure and I overlap. The sanding lines or areas are undetectable. When hitting it with the heavy cut compound everything thrn flows across the whole area. I have yet to see any noticeable separation.
