I honestly don't know if you visited this hotel many many years ago, but those prices you listed for the food are double or triple in some cases. The most expensive food in any hotel anywhere.

I caved in and I got the gold from green even though I'm not eligible for the initial sign up bonus since I'm already a customer. I'm also in pop up jail. I was eligible for an upgrade bonus and I took it. $1,000 spend in 6 months for 15,000 points. And to my surprise, I'm using both credits on Uber eats and grubhub to offset the gold card annual fee. That $10 annual fee effective is a steal. The 1 multiplier I will miss on the green is the 3X on cruises since I went on 2 cruises during my 1st year having that card. It's now 1X on gold. I'm gonna have to switch temporarily to the bilt master card since it's 2X on travel and cruises is included I have a $1,500 limit on bilt. But when I go to eat something and they take American express, I can use the gold card since dining is included worldwide now with American Express.

The Citi Exec saves you $200 off the cost of the lounge. Priority boarding is group 4. You can allow up to eight authorized users unescorted access to the lounge. The card is for the perks. Add the Barclays Silver (not the red) for spending at 3X. Plus $25 per day inflight purchases.. $50 per year toward Wi-Fi. $100 Global Entry credit. Add it up.. Priority check in and boarding, (Group 4), lounge access, complimentary food and drink, inflight paid for food and drinks. 3X miles when booking with the Silver card. The Exec card also has a 50,000 mile sign on bonus after $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months. That’s a $700 value.

For dining, $100 more in annual fees for 1x point more from 3x on Green to 4x on Gold is NOT worth it. I will stay on with the Green card. Its my dedicated dining card. The Clear benefit is now $189 which would totally offset the $150 annual fee by +$39 and of course and of course, with the $100 LoungeBuddy credit, your up +$139. I haven't used either credit, but I use the card a lot. Daily to hold the card is $0.410958904109589 or basically $0.41 a day on average to hold the card. My sign up bonus was 50,000 points for $2000 spend in 6 months when I got the card on Feb 14, 2022. I'm going to ask for a retention offer even though I plan to keep it for another year. I'm going on a cruise on Feb 11 to 18, so if the annual fee doesn't post before I go, I will ask after I return from my cruise to try to get a retention offer and keep using it another year. I won't plan to upgrade to Gold anytime soon since I don't shop enough at Grocery stores to justify and mostly at Walmart supercenters, so I use the BBP for Walmart supercenters. Platinum is not worth it to me since I travel once a year no more than twice and I have no Centurion Lounges near me. Stay on Green for now.

This is an old video but its the only one that I can find that has covered this trickle change. The value for me as a single traveler is OK but if I bring a companion it is not the same value at all and it seems like there's nothing to gain in changing this benefit because the food and drink credit opens up the taxation question . When is tax calculated?? Before or after the credit? From all my experience tax is calculated from the portion to pay after all credits have been applied/redeemed and normally the tax bill is zero. However I just argued with a hotel who claimed that the credit will not apply to taxes and so I am still liable for those...Which is bizzare because that goes against all of the previous uses of F&B credits. It would be similar to say that if you get a meal comped you would be liable for the taxes??? LOL. I could see it now, the manager walks over to apologize and says "We are truly sorry we messed up your food. We comped all of the food but we cant apply it to the taxes for the meal. You owe $4.69" this is not how things work in 99% of service industries so what is the right way? I got the taxes charged refunded to me when I complained but is anyone else experiencing this with the food credits?

In this case we were going to use our chase ultimate rewards points in order to book this flight but American airlines isn't a transfer partner with chase. How were you going to get those points from chase to American airlines?

If you use the Chase Sapphire Prefered card for the year and then downgrade after that first year do you lose the points that you earned for that past year?

Hey great video, I just opened a Alaska credit card a few weeks ago and had a question about earning the bonus points. I was raised to pay off the credit card before the statement balance period, however I wanted to ask if that will affect my points earning if I pay off the statement before the new statement period?? Or should I wait for for the balance to roll over into the next period and THEN pay it of?? Any help is appreciated

The biggest thing isn't points directly but free parking instead of 25 a night. Plus room upgrades. If you book a 150 a night room but get a 300 a night room it covers the annual fee at least in my head it does lol

I just paid $1,200 to fly from Phoenix to Atlanta this Christmas, comfort+ on Delta. Luckily I had a Reserve companion pass, so it was BOGO.

I come from the Southwest world where companion bookings are easy. With delta, they have restrictions based on the one-digit fare class of the ticket. For main cabin, they have like 10 different fare classes and maybe half are usable for a companion pass. These fare class restrictions function as de facto blackout dates.

I've had good luck with the companion pass, but we tend to book in advance, and travel off season. I also have the Reserve Card, and have Platinum status, if that makes any difference. What I'm less thrilled about is the Regional Upgrade Certificates. When booking Hawaii, the site listed my flights as eligible. When I called to apply them, I was told that they were pending, and undetermined. Well, the trip is 2 months away, so maybe not. I've been stacking MQMs because of Covid, so it is not a big deal, plus our other the certificates worked for Myrtle Beach. Still, I'm not about to spend $120K on the card for this benefit, if I can't rely on it.

I think you do get free breakfast or a breakfast credit with Gold status.

Gold vs Green? Neither. I just cut my AMEX gold card up. If you want to do business with a company that puts through illegitimate charges on an expired card, refuses legitimate charges, and is unwilling to fix any sort of issue - then this is your card. Worst customer service experience of any financial institution I have every dealt with. One issue with this card and you will be ready to trade in every point you earned to have never done business with AMEX.

One thing to keep in mind with the premier/prestige is that you need either of those two cards to get the full 1:1 transfer point value as opposed to like .8:1 and stuff

The Citi Prestige is OP af. I wish I knew about it before they stopped issuing it considering I spend all my points on airfare and not hotels. Spending points on fancy hotels with my vacation style is a waste because I’m pretty much never at the hotel except for when I’m sleeping. I always just find the cheapest possible hotel in the location where I’m going with at least a 4 star rating and a decent number of customer reviews. As long as my bed is soft, the room is relatively clean, and I feel safe sleeping there, that’s all I need. The rest is just a bonus. I’d rather spend my points going from New York to Hawaii for a 15000 point round trip! Such a steal! Then I can pay for 6 hotel nights and get 2 free plus and additional $250 off my stay. With how good of a value that is I see why they discontinued it.

Fantastic breakdown. Assuming annual fees are way for military (they are), would your analysis change and say that I should get the Prestige card? I already have the Platinum, venturex, and reserve but I see no reason not to churn the premier or prestige.

My future plans are optimizing the 2%. We converted Spark Cash into Spark Miles, and are planning to apply for the Chase Ink Premier. We're also planning to get the refreshed Paypal Credit Card, and converting Double Cash into Customized Cash. I feel like we've optimized the tier tier already, with both business and personal Gold Cards, Hilton Aspire, and Delta Reserve.
