Aside from driveway curbs, my first jump spot was in the maintenance yard at the local park. The city tree crews would dump the chipped up trees in long rows roughly three feet high, six feet wide and as long as the truck would hold. Us kids would just bring a small rectangle of plywood to prop up on one end to act as a lip in the soft chips. Just sprint in and blast off. And wiggle the bike around in the air trying to whip. I remember trying to learn tables like we saw in the BMX magazines. I'd just hit the lip, rotate to flat and land on the pile, with no clue that I was supposed to somehow bring it back and land on my wheels.
@substrata413028 күн бұрын
Sounds like you had a great time! Those "impromptu plywood" spots are always the best haha. I still struggle with tabes today, something I really want to perfect. Im goofy footed so one foot tabes are no worries but the elusive snap of a regular tabe ala inman, read, slattery... Not there yet!
@bigbird245128 күн бұрын
@@substrata4130 I'm goofy too. it means nothing. You just table the other way! And really, we all have our favorite way, but when it comes down to it, we should all be able to table in both directions. One might build one's own trails to favor our favorite, but we hopefully all travel to other peoples trails and they may just not go your way. I'm 6'7", so perhaps my long legs give me an upper hand at this. But struggle on my friend and find that two way snap! Thinking back on it (I don't ride any more due to MS.) I can't even remember which way is my "Natural." direction.

There is something about your videos that I really like to watch. Not chasing any trends, no dopamine receptors were fried, just pure art. I enjoy it even more cuz I was thinking about making cinematic biking channel for like a year now and I started doing it not long ago so your channel is something that I can kind of really relate to. Also love that you made music by yourself, I was trying too back in the day and now I make something for myself from time to time. Keep up the great work brother! 😄🫶
@substrata413028 күн бұрын
Thankyou so much Szymon, you hit the nail on the head. I try to create what I enjoy watching, a good bit of story telling, shredding and cinema sprinkled in. I subbed to you a while back, enjoy the direction you are heading in! Making music is sick, I'm stoked to make more and develop it along with the video skillsss

There’s over 100 piles of dirt there . Most developed bmx spot in Canada that I know of at the moment. 4 lines with extra option lines. Beginner jumps to big jumps. Tech. Gnar. Whatever you want cedars got. Unless you want a big gay mellow mtb table top. We don’t got that. Or a hill… 🤣

Awesome video, beautiful shots! Love the channel! How do you approach these kinds of jumps in a new location? I can't imagine it being anything other than a huge leap of faith?
@substrata413028 күн бұрын
Stoked you enjoyed! Pretty much just experience and balls. After jumping lots of different ones you can react to what you think the jump is going to do. Beyond a certain size you have to trust that the trail builder has experience and calculated the transition and gap correctly. You ask for advice on certain sets and or follow a local through, gauge your speed on the guy ahead of you. Most trails (well built ones) are built to a high degree of "user satisfaction" to put it very corporately, haha. They are made in such a way that they just work. Most of the time they are built to be cruised through by someone with less effort. If the jumps can be cruised through, they can most definitely be blasted by higher skill riders. "bad" trails would be very hard to ride, for everyone and very unpredictable. Hope that makes sense!

whats a "mass immigration apartment lottery"?
@substrata4130Ай бұрын
Last year Canada experienced huge immigration numbers around the total of 1 million new people, which put a huge strain on the already bonkers cost of living crisis - rentals went up by hundreds and thousands and there was people scrambling to find places to live. That was us haha.
@dominichaigh1844Ай бұрын
@@substrata4130 gotcha your describing the inevitable shortage of housing caused by too much mass immigration, I thought you were describing a government policy where by you have to enter a lottery to get affordable housing. In the dystopian hellscape that the west is degenerating into such a policy could exist. Anyway I Googled such a policy in Canada and couldn’t find anything hence the question. I’m glad to hear such a thing doesn’t exist. Thanks for clarifying.
