What a great movie, it’s a cult classic! Part of a trilogy of Peter Fonda movies where he dies at the end. Easy Rider, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, and 92 in the Shade. It inspired me to fish in the keys and we’ve been part time residents for 30 years. The dialogue and the outstanding cast. There is an alternative ending where Nichol Dance 0:00 doesn’t kill Tom , there on the boat and Tom reads some corney letter and they can’t stop laughing. I lost the cd somewhere. Peace

45:54 That might be the old wooden bridge on Sugarloaf, old state road 4A (county 939) where GOOGLE says _"End of the road."_ It's burned down and gone now.

TOTALLY AGREE with Brian on the laziness of people's comparisons. Psycho and Carrie? On what planet?1 Janet Leigh's character didn't survive the shower scene. Whereas, Carrie was already bloody when she got into the tub. I'm triggered by people (sadly, many Phantom fans) who compare Phantom of the Paradise to Rocky Horror Picture Show. Again, "ON WHAT PLANET". The stories are completely different!

In the book, Skelton (dig the foreshadowing of that name. He never stood a chance...) shares some psilocybin with his father, who keeps exclaiming "I'm a dope fiend!" In the middle of his ramblings about his failed whorehouse. This film manages to capture a snapshot of life in the Florida Keys that decades of greedy developers, as well as invading hordes of crass Yankee mooks, have long since ruined forever. McGuane remains one of the best American writers of his generation. Check out 'Rancho Deluxe', also starring Harry Dean Stanton, along with "The Dude", himself, Jeff Bridges, made soon after (written by, but not directed by McGuane) about modern day cattle rustlers in Montana. It's cut from the same cloth, but not anywhere near as dark as this one.

Sisters is still one of the most mentally mind-bending films I've ever seen! Watched it a few months ago and it still scares the daylights out of me! William Finley's character may just be a "red herring" but he is still terrifying! *When he sat down and started to speak I was startled that he didn't have that profoundly sinister accent and facial expression!* I kind of guessed, just as he took off his jacket and I realized who he'd played in the film, that the accent and voice might've just been for the role, but it was still amazing to hear this flat, average American voice coming from him! The dude made the word *_"REPEAT!"_* sound so life-threatening...

I saw it way back when. You're right, it's pretty much off the radar. It was easy to fall in love with the film and both of the characters that were portayed. Gene Wilder had his own unique version of leading man that typically called us to attention. And, pretty Margot Kidder was easy on the eyes, and carried a magnetic aura about her that would continue into several other roles. Wilder took it better than I did when the romance evaporated in this flick. By that, he showed dignity that gave me a model to follow when you're left empty-handed in love. Only real life can be harsher than fiction. Margot Kidder's struggles finally overcame her. And, Gene Wilder has also left life's great scene. They may not be around anymore. But, I'm glad their filmed performances are still here, to show us how it's done. And, to pull at our nostalgic heartstrings just one more time.

Margot Kidder was just an amazing actress who turned out a stack of brilliant performances throughout her career. But, she was one of the most eloquent, articulate and charismatic women in film history. We never saw an autobiography by her, and that's so unfortunate. Her life would have been such an engaging read. I hope she is resting peacefully. Margot Kidder 17 October 1948 - 13 May 2018

I love Gene Wilder movies but haven't seen this.Seems a bit surreal that he made a movie in Ireland. Then again,he was at the Old Vic in Bristol early in his career. All a bit like Bob Hope and Cary Grant being English!!!

Harry Dean Stanton felt very directionless during the making of this film, and Peter Fonda thought the film was poorly edited. I can see why they believed this.

January 2023. Now that is one whacky film. As a McGuane devotee I found it a bit disappointing. Was he on booze or something stronger in those days? We all had 'student' moments, I suppose. And goodness, how things have changed with guides and skiffs. It's seriously slick these days, but there are still a few characters.

So, Ben writes this sad, empathic, beautiful story about the death of a prostitute. But doesn't understand he's among obvious hookers in an obvious whorehouse? I can't imagine the real life Ben Hect was this goofy/dumb. There's a tape of Beau Bridges and Norman Jewison discussing this movie with Shelly Winters in the Merv Griffin Show that's more entertaining than the movie itself.
