Very interesting, thanks a lot! Do you have any info regarding lightfastness and quality of the Sennelier turquoise green? That's my favorite among the ones your showed

I don’t know if you’ll see this comment. But I got an M Graham set for Christmas and it had Anthraquinone Blue in the set. I just swatched it and it has these weird gritty specks in it. I first noticed it on my 30-well porcelain palette (the same one that you own) when I brushed out the color a little bit with a tiny bit of water. When the white of the porcelain shined through the dark paint I noticed the specks. I know that PB60 isn’t a granulating color so I was immediately confused. They look like tiny tiny flecks of black (or darker athraqu. blue) - almost fibery like from a paper towel or something. So weird??? And yes my palette was clean. I wiped it clean before putting some paint down. The paint was very thin and I didn’t mix the tube (I use an electric eraser with a needle stabbed into the eraser as a DIY paint mixer lol). So I will swatch again after mixing but I don’t see how that will help the grains that I’m seeing. Have you not noticed this? If you don’t mind, next time you use this color on your porcelain palette let me know if you see these tiny specks. I hope I didn’t get a bad batch or something :( The color looks mostly fine on the swatch card by the way. I mostly noticed these specks on the palette when pulling the color out slightly diluted.

Thank you. I’m new to Watercolor. Your video was very useful indeed. I bought a box of 12 colour paint set. It does not have dark brown, like B umber. What Color should I mix a very dark brown? Thank you.

I'm so surprised that you dislike them.i agree they can be expensive but that's all I can complain about.I live in Florida maybe thats why ,who knows but I have no trouble re wetting them.m.graham is hard to dry but I have no problem there either.i do like Daniel Smith best. But their range of is color awesome. That said Windsor & Newton is in second place.Where I'm disappointed is sennelier ,schmincke and Qor.

My husband helps me make my own paints it all started with acrylic then I moved to gouache a now I make my own watercolour paints it's been an experience doing it this way but he is a paint chemist so he knows his colours all by numbers which goes over my head sometimes , it comes to me in dispersions sometimes runny or a pastey way depending on the pigment strength , I've been looking at the prices of Winston Newton,Daniel Smith and other high price product because I want look into selling some product eventually it's the gum Arabic and thickeners that are the pricy parts some of the pigments are dirt cheap.

Beautiful purples there. But it doesnt make bright orange (its cool undertone makes always a dull orange) . So its a plus but not in a limited palette as warm red.

Hello, I've been subscribed to you since probably around 2016 and have been watching you on and off since (not anything to do with your content, just kinda lose track with the sheer volume of channels I'm subscribed to ^^;). Watching all your swatching videos back then got me really into pigments and learning about them, and has helped tremendously when it comes to color mixing. And my goodness, watching your videos now feels like coming home. You've a warmth and softness in your voice that feels so pleasant to listen to and it's so wonderful to hear you in the background while I'm painting. Thanks so much for all your videos and the effort and knowledge you put into them and I really hope life is treating you well!

How did you pick the white nights colors? I like highly granulating and never opaque colors. I’ve found it hard to find that information on colors (for all brands, not just white nights)

I apologize for sounding negative but you said you're using cheap paper so that you don't waste "good" paper. I will humbly suggest that your 88k subscribers and 140k viewers of this video are worthy of high quality watercolor paper. A one-eighth sheet of cotton paper would cost about a dollar, and if you're thrifty, you could also paint on the back side. Why demonstrate brushes and paint on paper you wouldn't use to do a painting with? Using cheap paper does seem to be a common practice among artists doing demonstrations with some even complaining about the results they are getting during the demo. I don't get it. Well, there's my rant for today! Thanks

I’ve used Grumbacher products since the late 70’s. They were one of THE brands to get for decades. The company has been around for a long time. Michael’s used to carry Grumbacher and to my surprise I saw that ALL of their Academy watercolors were on clearance for just $1.99 a tube! Yes. I took as many as I could and went back for more. I love working with these alongside my more expansive paints like Schminke and Daniel Smith. And what I have are those are sample pans and whenever they go on sale. The other brand I love is the Rosa watercolor paints from Ukraine 🇺🇦. With these brands I have more than enough to play around with. The Thalo colours from Grumbacher are my favorites to work with!

What's with all those pigments getting discontinued? 🤯 As if the godawful trend of virtually only black/grey/white cars being around these days isn't bad enough on its own, this is slowly turning into a real problem for artists!

Mahogany Brown is sooooo gorgeous. It always looks like there are two pigments involved even though it's only one

Indanthrone is legitimately the paint that I use the most. I always mix my blacks with it because of how dark it is. I also use it for shadows a lot. And it's just a color that's lovely on its own as well. Would never build a palette without it.

Objectively who is the better brand/firm M.Graham or Da Vinci Paint Co.?
@InLiquidColor17 күн бұрын
There is no "objectively" when it comes to comparing two professional brands of paint. Environment, availability, price, subjects of paintings, and personal preference all play a role when choosing your paints. My preference considering all of those factors is Da Vinci.

Usually mix my own browns but got a tube of Van Dyke brown & find it not to yellow or the orange in burnt sienna & performs much better than sepia. Wonder why don’t see it very often but enjoying it! Love these color series!

I had to laugh at your frustration with your initial attempt with WMOs. Can relate! Exactly how I felt years ago when I went from acrylics to alkyds. Felt like I'd forgotten how to paint! Then I moved on to oils for years, and to WMOs for the past 2 years. I love them! One thing you should know is there are toxic watercolours, and acrylics, and oils. It's the pigments that are toxic (cadmiums, cobalts, anything with lead), not the medium. Most oil painters use titanium white, which is non-toxic. There's a lead white, which few use, which is toxic, because lead. I choose all non-toxic colours, and use only water and linseed as a medium. I try my best to not add any more pollutants to our planet, not only in painting, in life in general.

I love seeing your whole process, your dedication to perfecting your talent, your self control with a limited palette, the gradual and built up layers that it takes to make a thoughtful and detailed piece of art, the controversial and intriguing subject matter. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so, obviously dark subjects are fun. Thank you for sharing all of the juicy bits. It wasn't too long. It was necessary and worth it.

While it may be easy to replicate the hue with a mixture, what I like about PY153 is that it's both transparent and staining. As far as I know it's the only (lightfast) yellow pigment that can do that. As someone who likes to work in thin transparent layers and prefers staining paints that don't lift when I apply the next layer, I'm really sad we're losing this pigment 😢
