BTW- if you hadn’t heard: the NYT Tech workers ended the strike on Tuesday! We can all use the app again!

Love this! For 19D you can know “logs” is wrong because the word “log” is in the clue. NO puzzle answer words appear in any clues.

Ah, you must mean at the very end there where I came close to throwing in the towel. Yes, I have to remember to push my fortitude on Tuesday-Sundays now!

You might be more attentive to crosswordese? Things like Avis appear because of the vowel consonant vowel consonant pattern. I'm in and ecol also follow that pattern. Asti is also a cliche in these puzzles. The dart player's attribute should be a noun, since attribute is a noun. If you solve more you will know more instinctively which words have five letters and won't fit in four spaces.

I look forward to the day when I can appropriately use the word "ascot" in casual conversation!

Nice Captain Gid. I could never solve like this though. I guess you do acrosses only on Monday to make it more challenging - I would never have the patience. :) good job

Hey thanks! Actually, it's my default pattern to just cycle through the clues in sequence. I keep intending to alter my method to check the intersecting ones after each solved clue, but I'm a creature of habit 🤷‍♂️

@@captaingid sure. when my Dad got me started on The NY Times crossword decades ago when I was a kid, he'd let me fill in what I could but he absolutely disallowed any entry without at least one letter going the other way - to "anchor" it. Even if I was "sure" of it. So thats how I got used to doing it, I generally do hard copy in pen so that minimizes making a mess too... :)
