On Sally Rooney- I'm just too old for her but listening to you- I'll try to give her a chance. Btw @csop mentioned you around the 17:58 mark of his video about you reading Moo. He's hilarious to me. I was so excited when he mentioned you.

I saw Charles mentioned me. I honestly couldn’t believe it. He commented on my last video, and as you know I can be a little late on my reply’s. So I assumed he didn’t think I would respond, then I watch his video and my jaw dropped. Not only did he watch the whole video, he actually bought the book! I’m so proud lol.

I haven’t read anything from her yet, but I bought Normal People and Conversations with Friends. But maybe I should read this first??

I think you will love conversations with friends. Also, don’t forget about Beautiful World where are you as well. I would suggest reading her work in the order that it was published just to see the evolution of her writing over the years. Either way, I feel strongly that she’s worth your time.

I love your braids and beads Diamond! Moo sounds good. I will be adding it to my TBR list. I like literary fiction because I feel nourished after reading it, however I’m learning that this sub genre I just found out about called Up Market fiction is more my speed. It gives me the depth that literary fiction provides without some of the dryness 😂 I totally understand taking a a heavy load and continuing on without complaint. As women we tend to do that a lot, but I’m learning that the effects of doing that all the time show up eventually somewhere somehow. I’m trying to course correct now. Anyway I hope you and your daughter have smoother better days ahead.
@jadeddiamonds99838 күн бұрын
Thank you for the compliment 😊.. I gotta look more into Up Market, literally never heard of it. Yes, I agree lit fic can be a bit dry, but I’ve been quite lucky lately. Thank you so much for your kind words of inspiration, we do need to find a better release and not bare the weight as often, but I can’t help it.
@nathansnook14 күн бұрын
i honestly need to get to some Jane Smiley!!! and i honestly feel the same way about lit fic then and now...i find that most of the popular releases that i run through just don't hit as hard as stuff back then. in construction, in language. i think that's why i try to keep an even balance of backlist and new releases just to keep the tides interesting. missed ya boo!
@jadeddiamonds99838 күн бұрын
A fine balance is always necessary. Can’t wait to catch your latest vlog. Gotta finish my new Sally first.
@mamutshilanda982214 күн бұрын
Nice seeing you! I agree with you when it comes to reading literary fiction. Especially the classics and other fiction work that were written long ago. The only thing is the language, and certain things may be either offensive to our generation or not inclusive enough...still it does not diminish the message the book was supposed to convey. Thanks!
@jadeddiamonds99838 күн бұрын
I totally agree with you regarding the language, I find that the titles I’ve chosen over the years pay special attention to black characters. I guess I’ve been lucky in that. Even in Moo, Smiley has a black female character that she really cultivated, and it seems as though she either had black friends on real life or did her research to ensure that the character was written properly.

You know what.. you are so right, I too am concerned. At times I do like to live a little on the wild side lol but I’m also pretty safe. I noticed you don’t really read contemporary fiction as well. It’s something so special about titles that were written before I was born or even before I could read, the fact that they resonate so well with me now as a 32 year old is bewitching.
