I loved that you added book suggestions to your thoughts.❤I also have a psychology degree! One thing I've realized is you must be content with yourself and can feel happy even when alone before you will be successful in a relationship! You will be a better person yourself and for others! Thanks for sharing your journey! Did you do a grief journal?
@journalingplanetКүн бұрын
@carlaking3459 I agree with all you say. I kept an avid journal for the first year of my loss that centred around grief. I found it very helpful! So glad you liked the book recommendations! I hope you found psychology as fascinating as I did!

I remember making a journal from a Little Golden book and I did the most ridiculously wide spine with three bulky signatures. It seemed never ending and I chose to take out a signature and slim down the spine. I totally agree with you about not bulking up journals too much. I love your journal.
@journalingplanet3 күн бұрын
I'm giggling at this because I can remember doing the over bulking thing with the signatures and then wondering when oh when will this project ever end? Haha. It's a good lesson and we all have to learn it. We will see if I should have stuck with one signature with this one hehehe

Much needed discussion, thanks a lot for this! 5:25 Idea # 3 is my fav - hinging oven an image a transparent piece with and extra image that will alter the original one underneath. I can imagen a whole fabulous journal built around only this idea. So creatively good! As for the laminators being underused because of the cost of manufactured for the pouches… Did you watch one of the last videos on Saacibo channel (called ‘Cellophane Upcycling Idea - A Game Changer For Me #budgetcrafting’)? Dragana came up with this method of using any transparent plastic instead of those pouches… A game changer. 8:30 I like a lot the idea of the cellophane bag with something 3dimentional in it and perhaps notes to be stapled right to the page (or better yet to a tab card or a tag). I personally like make transparent pockets (I glue wonky rectangles cut from acetate packaging of potatoes, etc. from my grocery store). I use art glitter glue and it performs very well.
@journalingplanet3 күн бұрын
All of your ideas sound wonderful! I'm glad you like the idea of layering acetate over an image and painting. I agree you could create a whole journal on that principle and it would be so cool! I will look up that tutorial you suggested about laminating. I am always happy to watch a tutorial and learn something new so thank you for the recommendation.

Lovely result. ... I have to find your book on ghost signs! For years Iʻve been photographing what I call "ghost buildingsʻ - ones that display ʻghost signs,ʻ as you call them, but also evidence of windows, doors, and other artifacts of a previous life. Iʻm excited to learn that Iʻm not the only one drawn to these glimpses into the past.
@journalingplanet3 күн бұрын
You are not the only one! There are lots of ghost signs enthusiasts out there. Hehe. My book is called Fading London by Helen Cox and there are ghost sign books about several UK cities including Liverpool and Birmingham. So nice to meet a fellow "ghost" enthusiast! I love that you seek out those buildings!

I enjoyed this episode. Journals made with packaging are the only kind I am personally making and interested in. I am of course often tempted to buy materials manufactured specifically for crafters, but I learned how to resist. I do not pay any attention to brands. I pay attention to colors. I like monochrome journals. All blues I collect go to the blue one, all pinks to the pink one. And so on. I love this craft. And I am one of those who wants to spend free time only on making or making with a crafting video playing in the background. 😊.

I am so intimidated by the 3 hole pamphlet stitch. I am afraid to try it. 😂. But I love these journals.
@journalingplanet4 күн бұрын
Let me reassure you that it is very easy on a technical level and if it doesn't fo right first time you just pull the thread out and start again. I'm just not very graceful when I do it! Instead of doing 3 hole, I often just run string / elastic down the centre if the signatures and tie it up at the spine. This means that pages are removable if you are not happy with any of them too.
@Michiefly4 күн бұрын
@@journalingplanet part of the problem is I get nervous just with the idea of “sewing”. 😂. I might try something with an elastic or one string. I might be able to manage that. I am relatively new to all of this.

Helen this is so beautiful! Even though my childhood home never looked like this it reminded me of a childhood memory. When I was only about 6 years old I already loved reading! My mom signed me up for a subscription for a book series called The Hamilton Twins. This was during the popularity of Nancy Drew but I preferred the Hamilton Twins. Every 2 weeks when a new book was due to be delivered I would rush to the mailbox as soon as the mail came until I received the most recent release. Once I got the new book I’d curl up in our armchair and read it cover to cover. I wouldn’t play or eat or do anything until I had finished it! At some point I received a tabletop bookcase to collect them in and I absolutely loved them! I think there were probably 10-12 books. Unfortunately they disappeared when we were cleaning out my dad’s house after he passed. Thank you for stirring up and dusting off this old memory!

Wonderful 👍 I'm 78 yrs old. Been trying to journal/write all my life! Would start then lose interest! I can still remember a teacher I had that was a stickler for spelling, punctuation, etc, so I generally had a lot of notations on my papers. Not positive . A necessary step in education but just a few good critiques would have been nice . So eventually I lost interest in putting pen to paper. You just gave me some hope of trying again 😁
@journalingplanet11 күн бұрын
Full disclosure: I write novels for a living and spelling isn't my strong suit. That kind of thing doesn't have to hold you back. The journal is YOUR space where nobody can critique what you do. You make the rules. I'd love to see you go for this. Thank you for watching.
