Thanks for posting, Nick. I've recently worked one of these into my studio. What else can you let us know about your experience with the 1/4" input for a footswitch that controls a keystroke? FYI: In addition to the 828 mk3, I have a MOTU 8pre connected via optical but, I haven't tested that yet. I also have some ADAT xt's from a legacy studio configuration. Lastly, I have lots of MIDI devices new and old along with a variety of sync boxes.

Ya I have the ultra lite version. same issues good and bad. It is pretty much just been relegated to pan pots for the drum brute. then 2 channel it into another mixer or interface. I also have a mk5 ultra lite and an 8a and an M4 for simple mobile stuff. I would replace and retire it soon but what I need is more AVB gear for my setup first. Got my eye on a used 8pre ES but he won't come down in price. hopefully MOTU won't abandon AVB and update the Pro stuff with TB4 and AVB.

What audio interface are you using?

If you are reading this in 2024 and on, get 828 (2024 edition) or Motu MK5 All these older units do not sound as good as MK5 or 828 (2024)

I use two 828mk2 via FireWire as digital lightpipe interfaces in conjunction with my Yamaha 02R for my old 2010 Mac book pro running Logic 8. I have my synths, drum machines etc into the yamaha 02R via patchbay Also use a word clock generator to sync the 828s with the 02R and other digital gear so all my audio is handled in the digital domain. All the audio is 16 bit 44.1k and sounds great, is easy to work with. I have no latency issues and motor control over logic from the 02R if needed. It’s such a simple workflow but really flexible and fun, I can work outside the box or in it, or both. 😅 It’s all old tech, 90s in fact but works and sounds fantastic. And was a lot cheaper than buying the expensive kit today.

Can i daisy chain a Presonus 16 4 2 firewire mixer to multi track on a USB PC with windows?

Good video. I have several Motu units, 829, 896, but once upon a time a friend was around and did the installation on the pc. Now I live in the US and plan to try myself to do it. There are no tutorials how to set Motu in PC, PLEASE consider make a video. One last question, having a hybrid like yours, can you avoid using the card, and go to the pc via USB, also connecting other unit like 896 or other 828, not hybrid. Thank you, Joe

It's been about 5 years since I've done anything in my studio. I lost my wife to cancer 4 years ago and just now trying to crawl out of this misery. I bought a few decent tools prior to her getting sick, which really were never used My 828mk3 hybrid and presonus faderport 16 are essentially brand new. I've upgraded to win 10/64 and invested in Studio One (6), as well as most of Waves plug-ins and Soundsonline yearly subscription. A top of the line Rode mic and an AKG 414 rounds out the decent gear. I imagine I have pretty much what I need to get going, but at 70 years old now, I feel the learning curve for all this stuff is going to take too long to do me justice. As for the 828mk3 hybrid, one big plus for me is the dual optical inputs which I use with my two Roland XV-5080's which are completely packed full with their expansion cards.

Good day, I’m having an issue with the headphone slash main output on the front, would you be willing to let me know how to get the headphone to operate independently from the main out volume. I’m having difficulty turning down the main out while turning up the headphone it seems like they are. It operating independently for me. And I appreciate your info… one more question if I have another Motu interface that does not have dsp effects can I use the dsp effects on my mkiii on say a travelers Mki inputs? Thank you

Did the GL2400 end up being too tall to put the bridge on the desk for a computer monitor? Only asking because I have the exact same console and am looking at a desk for it and my rack gear.

Everything on that console is "right there". It saves so much time. I like the fx rack, too. Catchy tune.

Hey Nick - thank you for this, great video! We are a little concerned that you have to input the log in code to you app when it disconnects, it should just do it automatically. Are you using the "devices" tab at the bottom of remote to reconnect it?
