As soon as I saw the cloud coming up I knew the vsi would jump up, it's hard to see the updraft through the camera but I bet you can feel it . Beautiful Machine

Wow! Such a massive fighter looks so compact from the pilot's pov. Makes me appreciate the great job WW11 Fighters by Jane's simulations did all those years ago.

My favorite aircraft. A girlfriend's father flew a P-47 in Europe during WWII, painted with the black & white invasion stripes. Robert Johnson's book, "Thunderbolt" is an excellent read.

Thanks so much for sharing this (and i don't know how i didn't find it earlier...). My father was a Tuskegee Airmen who spent a lot of hours flying the P-47D. I rewatched the start until takeoff several times, just trying to imagine what was going through his 18 yr old mind. I wonder how his first few moments felt sitting in her, preparing the first flight after finishing Primary in a PT-17 then Basic in an AT-6. I always loved going to airshows with him, listening to him talk to the pilots and sharing his experiences. I will definitely watch these many times over...

Im sure they are a pain to work on, inefficient (compared to today's engines) and require alot more attention to operate, but man to Radial engines sound nice.

...I'd say, that title belongs to the P-51D: the P-47 was more like the "BATTERING RAM" of WW2 fighters- THE P-47 WAS BIG, HEAVY, AND IT HIT REALLY HARD...(!)

Sure wish we could arm a few of those up and give them range time in a MOA to record the sights and sounds of them in the ground attack roll! Put some mock up German equipment in the open to strafe. JABO porn!

Thanks for the awesome video John. We have Nellie B over here in the UK and saw her do a display a few years ago. For a aeroplane nicknamed the flying jug she sure could move. Beautiful aircraft. All the best and stay safe 👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing! Is that bird yours? It must feel amazing! I fly mine in dcs lol! I notice I didnt see the turbo lever next to the throttle, that you could connect or not to, was it removed because collection warbirds don't need superchargers?
