very well said, I was considering changing over to Graphene but not sure if I want to spend a ton of time setting this up. I am concerned about privacy, wondering if IOS is more private platform since our info is not for sale, and Apple says we are not the product.

How do I fix the black screen
@mayferusКүн бұрын
Personally I does not work, I might be a moron but I tried everything and ether steam vr does not launch or launches but braks (OK might be steam fault) but then when I eventually get it working I cannot figer out how to get my quest 3 to communicate trought adb even re enabling access in developer option does not work so when I finally get it to install (on windows by the way) it then just does not want to connect anymore .... so now I'm at this point where I tried Debian, linux mint and even Ubuntu and ether it breaks or just does nothing at all ...

Steam on switch doesn't work well, but you can still play PC games if they are free drm like GOG games by using wine + box64, since Switch V2 and OLED are more efficient than V1 and Lite, you can emulate on V2 and OLED PC Games like Metal Gear Solid 5, Metal Gear Rising, Just Cause 2, Dark Souls 2 and some other videogames at 30 fps, on V1 and Lite you still can emulate some PC games like Warcraft 3 or Age of Empires, also you can run native Diablo 1, Morrowind, Counter Strike Source, Half Life 1, 2 and expansions, box64 still updating and it's getting better and better so yes, Nintendo Switch can be some kind of semi-steam deck arm

I built my computer in 2018 with Intel & Nvidia. It's starting to show its age, so I plan on upgrading. I think my benchmark will be when Linux figures VR out, or when it dies. Cause then I can buy a headset with my new computer. I already use Linux, and have been for 4 years, so I've largely stayed out of anything to do with VR. I hope it becomes viable on Linux someday, better soon than later. But I'm more loyal to the open source revolution that's currently happening, than a glorified motion sickness machine.

Minor nitpick: if it's not some quirky joke, please let the text on screen stay (much) longer. I both hate missing things, and having to pause and go back for some trivial thing. Several times per video. It is just a really bad experience to need so much interaction for no good reason. Annoying and streessful. P.S.: KZbin says 10 comments, shows only 2, but going to to Sort By and choosing Newest First I can see all of them. What a time to be alive! YTs competitors can't come soon enough, the censorship is getting more and more severe. Writing a nice, detailed comment of 10+ sentences to only be silently hidden away is really killing it.

Wasn't Huawei proven to have data stealing capabilities on hardware level like 10 years ago? AFAIK, 5 years later it resulted in ban in a number of countries, and I doubt it got any better because more countries joined since then. I don't think any software solution can protect you from that, can it? Even if they're using it solely for espionage, it's still too shady for me.
@jacinabox16 күн бұрын
if its not connecting to a network directly, and it's only connection to the outside world is gadgetbridge, there isn't realistically any means for the hardware level data stealing capabilities to work.
@issacdowling16 күн бұрын
You've got to consider the hardware involved. This watch has no way of communicating besides Bluetooh, and that Bluetooth connection is to an open-source piece of software only implementing what's necessary to get the useful data in/out of the watch, and with no possibility of touching the internet. I treat this the same as I would any other piece of proprietary tech, and I understand that there's some mystery around what Huawei can do, but I do not believe it would be rational to be overly concerned about this setup.
@cprn.16 күн бұрын
Can't be 100% sure what happens when it gets near any Huawei phone, even briefly on the street, but... Fair enough. I've been called paranoid in the past.

Lol, Intel and amd has this capability even earlier. Do you think who huawei copies.
@cprn.16 күн бұрын
@@inevespace If you're talking about remote management in the BIOS (e.g. vPro), that's software that can be easily disabled, and comes only with enterprise level chips. If you mean the news from like a week ago - sure, maybe - but then, it came from Huawei "IT experts", so it kind of looks like FUD news due to further China bans issued this year.

My Quest 2 and Quest 3 have been an endless shit show and dumpster fire, and that's with them working standalone or connected through Quest Link and SideQuest to my computer running *Windows*. Windows itself is crap sabotaged by Microsoft so Microsoft can bring back that functionality and then market that as new features.

I used it for like an hour messing around and everything worked but then i clicked restart from the notification and it booted back into my normal OS. In the past I've used something called MultiROM on my OnePlus One. It was a true multi boot solution so let's say you could test a new Custom ROM and decide if you like it or not and then make it your primary ROM. Truly an amazing work and there was quite a lot of support on it for OnePlus One. I have also seen something called DualBootPatcher for e.g. OnePlus 5 but I never used that. Gosh I miss those days. It was really awesome to have the ability to do it so easily back then :)

13:50 that's more or less what I do with my daily driver phone too (it's a 5 year old realme device, because it still works just fine with a headphone jack and micro sd slot, I also have another xiaomi device running lineage os), but I never locked the bootloader (because unlocking it was a pain and I don't care about widevine drm), you can achieve a lot with just adb, applications like the universal android debloater, a third party launcher and a designated dns that blocks ads and trackers.

6:30 I am not a phone expert about fingerprint sensor stuff, but that data is probably saved not on the internal storage, but a secure chip on the motherboard, which well both os have access to, so when you open one os, it rewrites that and hence it shows error on the other os
@issacdowlingАй бұрын
This nearly sounds plausible, but you're able to have fingerprints saved on both OS's at once, it's just upon initial installation that they break, which is why I assumed it was some weird security trip thing

@thelakeman2538Ай бұрын
Ubuntu touch is probably the best option if you wanna run a mobile linux os. But if it's just running a linux distro off your phone, you can already do that using termux, since you can interact with android kernel using a terminal the same way you can do so with the linux kernel (just no root privileges) and termux provides many of the packages to get you started, even allowing you to install distros inside it. Getting x server working and displaying output can be finicky in this method (you need to use a remote desktop protocol like vnc), and I don't believe you can run a wayland session. There's also a project trying to do x86 emulation (Limbo x86), never tried it though.

Exciting. So this would mean that, even if I can only find 'standalone' headsets available secondhand to dip my toes into VR, as long as this application supports them, I should be able to use them for PCVR from the Linux gaming PC I just spent a lot of money building? That's great news! I'll still search specifically for hardware that's non-Meta-associated, though. If I get desperate enough several years down the line, I MIGHT consider used Oculus/Meta hardware if it can be jailbroken to be independent from their servers and trusted to not suddenly brick itself remotely or start phoning home, but new it's not an option, period -- I refuse to have ANYTHING to do with Meta. I have far more of a vendetta against them than I do against Microsoft, and I just built an expensive gaming PC Linux-only. Meta is up there near Nintendo for me, as far as enmity goes.
