This sounds like he's using alternative tuning. He has a capo on the 2nd fret, but it sounds much more similar to when I play on 1st fret with standard tuning.

He is playing with standard intervals and normal chord shapes but the whole guitar is tuned a semitone low - hence the pitch is the same as when you use your capo a fret lower than Al is doing.

Yes, I think you´re right! It also reminds me of the song by Elizabeth Cotten especially in the Joan Baez version.

Dave had an on-stage encounter with "Libby" Cotten (as he calls her) when he was a little kid.

Al’s record company (Rhino Records?) did such a horrible job promoting his music that he shouldn’t have shied away from this tune. It became one of his top 5 songs ever, even though he never liked it.

No, he didn´t. What you hear is because of the limited potential of my camera in audio. The sibilant sounds are also conditioned by my near position to the stage and the sources of sound.

In ´91 I heard him say when someone requested this song: "That is the most silly song I´ve ever written. I just wanted to be played on the radio. It was a bet that I can write a top-fourty-hit anytime." How could you have been at a concert in ´83 when you´re 24 now?

This is great. You are right. I saw him in '83. I sat in the front row and yelled this song title out 3 times. On the 3rd time he looked right at me and said he doesn't know that song and doesn't want to hear it again.

I saw him in early 80s and he didn’t play the song then either. Then saw him 7 years ago and nope, didn’t sing it. Glad he is singing it now.
