Thanks! Still valid 7 years on :) For me letting go of the brakes as I tightened the screws worked best. Loosen screws, hit the brake a couple times, then tighten. I noticed that when I hit the brakes the whole caliper assembly moved inboard, thus holding them on while tightening kept them in the offset position.

Thanks for these good tips. I hang my bicycle from under the headset and store inside over winter here in Finland. Any comments or other suggestions?

Spent about 500 miles on it and so far so good. kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA Pros:1. Very light2. Solid quality build3. Fast delivery: It arrived 5 weeks earlier than expected.4. Easy assemblyJust a few cons but nothing major:1. Cheap tin tubes and had flat on first day... but not a big deal. I replaced the tubes.2. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)

No issues with assembly for me kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".

Mine doesn't have cable tension adjustment knob

Your video is the best for explaining the shift from left to right on V-Brakes. Most ppl are too ADD to explain it correctly. Tightening the screw on right side shifts the V-Brakes towards the right side, lifting the right brake pad AWAY from the rim. Loosening the screw on the right side shifts the entire V-brake towards the left, thus bringing the right brake pad closer to the rim.

This tutorial is wrong... First and foremost, the limiters are adjusted first with No cable tension, otherwise the cable and limiters are fighting each other. Release cable tension FIRST, Then adjust the limiters. Then... Tension the cable in the High gear and then adjust the index with the barrel nut.

Is it okay to activate the brakes when the bike is inverted? It does not encourage any air to move from the resevoir at the lever to the caliper end?

And set up some better lighting in future please. I'm not trying to hate on you at all but this was a very poor quality video to be completely honest. 🤷🏼♂️I'm just saying🤷🏼♂️

I bought my son a brand new merida bike. I feel like this is happening. I rode it on gears 5,6,7,8 and nothing. But on gear 4 it slipped... My foot slid off the pedal. This is the second bike this is happening to as the bike shop replaced the bike that was doing this also... Why would a brand new bike do this???

WD stands for water displacement. I doesn't absorb oil, it displaces water. I like your clean and lube method. Perfectly practical and easy.

After you've finished spraying WD 40 towards your disk brakes the next stage is to clean the rotor and disk pads with acetone.

Oof, mine has sand and everything in it and I'm afraid it needs replacing and not just tightening. Still, this video is helpful for me to understand my current issue. I have 100 miles to go to cross the country and tomorrow is Christmas. I'm hoping it will stay just tight enough to make the trip, but it's pretty wobbly and starting to grind a bit. Wish me luck 😬

Terminology - "Cable Tension Adjustment Knob = Barrel Adjuster // "Small Sprokets/Gears = Pulleys // Limit Screws Are "High & "Low" (High Gear & Low Gear) and are indicated by H & L designations many derailleurs. To avoid confusion - When you say you are shifting "higher" or "ïnward", you are actually down-shifting to a lower gear, and vice versa. This is a really important concept for cyclists to learn and understand.

Great video - especially the bit about Right & Left pedals having opposite threads - so tightening and loosening require different directions between the two pedals.
