I believe he did love her but his bottomline was alot deeper and crueler than hers. He was a warrior. She was aways a royal with her eye on the throne. But she has to have men like him or she would never get the throne. If Daemon didnt love her, he would not have acted. But she treated him like a lap dog when he was a lion. If he had truly wanted the throne, he would have taken it years ago because his brother was weak and diseased. This scene ultimately lead to their deaths. He went out to do what he did best, kill something. He knew that Aemond and Vagar was the biggest threat to her. He knew Blood Worm was no match for Vagar and he was aging. He knew it was likely a death sentence. Once he was gone, she didnt last 3 days. 😢 But did he really die? Did Luke really die? Or did they just get tired of fighting her war and picked this way to leave as their bodies were never found?

I agree, I love how their dynamic is written, and the dialogue in this scene reflects exactly who Daemon is, and the frustration that Rhaenyra feels towards him. I do believe that there is a sense of loyalty between them, but his ego comes first in the end.

Everyone is hating on alicent, but she lit a candle for luke, she still loves rhaenrya and she still wants peace! She doesnt want war i truly see that all she wants is her best friend back, daemon and aemond and bacon hair cole are the ones pushing violence when really the true heir rhaenyra just wants peace and the realm to be protected and aegon and haleana were never ready for war or the crown(apologies for my bad spelling of the names im dyslexic) :') Daemon the true villian of this season, he didnt care that a little boy was killed for the sake of rhaeryna grieving, he took the advantage without having her permissions or the black councils!
