Nice start! I just came off 30 miles of the JMT between MTR and Edison that kicked my 51 year old butt! Happy trails...

Great video! My girl & I just got from Sequoia this past weekend. Honestly, this is my goal/dream, sort of beginning backpacking adventure. We’re heading back up to Sequoia in May to hike Mineral King to Eagle/Monarch Lakes 😎

You are buying the wrong tuna, only buy solid white meat albacore, by far the best and only tuna to buy, try it you will never buy the pink crap again

Take the road, why go straight up and down with no switch backs, and learn the proper way to use your trekking poles, YT has videos, Blackjack is great, you have cell service, so I watched a movie in my tent

Hey Brian Thanks for the great videos. My daughter and I are starting our hike on Aug 24,2021. I have been training/preparing for about 6 months. I am feeling a little pre hike jitters. if I am ready. I have been running, hiking with the pack, stair stepping at gym, and treadmilling with the pack at the highest incline. Feel like I'm in about the best shape I can be in. My neck and shoulders are feeling a little tight from the pack weight. Any advice or encouragement would be great.

Sounds like you’ve been doing plenty of training which will help. Conditioning was pretty key for me. Regarding pack weight, maybe go through a shakedown to make sure you’ve got it dialed in. Heavy pack and lack of conditioning is what made my friend quit on Day 1. But the trail is beautiful, even on the hard days! 😁

We are hiking the HST next week. We have heard that the bear boxes along the trail are often full of trash, so don’t expect to be able to use them. What was your experience? Thank you for the videos. Looking forward to the rest.

Thanks for watching, Susan! The bear boxes along the HST didn’t seem to be filled with trash at all - we had no problem fitting our bear can overflow into them. I’ve seen trashy boxes on other trails, but the ones we used on this trip were fine! I hope you have an awesome hike!!

Love seeing the video at 18:22. You're standing right where we pitched our tent and camped at the Grand Overlook. We had the entire area to ourselves.

I used a 30° REI Magma Trail Quilt and it was perfectly warm for me without being too much. I slept in my puffy jacket at Guitar Lake and Outpost camp, but that’s all I needed.

In early to mid July there's typically at least some sheets of ice still floating on Precipice. I'm Brian's friend that bailed on day 1; but I did the HST in 2019 (which was a high snow year compared to the practically no snow year of 2021) & Precipice was 75% covered in ice by early August still.
