Really cool compilation video shows how a regular guy can attain proficiency in trail skills leading to his own sense of mastery. This video takes the methods Lee teaches for riding and shows it's attainable. Lee does a great job of presenting evidence for his techniques rather than other skills videos which just show, "Here's how you do this." That to me, makes sense.

Fantastic coaching Lee, just did a $10 thank you. Lee i often think how many movement patterns are shared with skiing this reminds me of grand slalom skiing. I was doing all of this yesterday, so much more dynamic, safe and fun. Id be interested on your thoughts on the transition between turns, unweighting, swapping feet and then dropping to set the new "edge" to get the new carve on. Another cross sport observation is horse riding, specifically the hinge, allowing the horse to pivot underneath you, lightness on the reins, matching the terrain, not leaning back. Heavy stirrups, light reins. Telling the horse through leg pressure, body rotation and looking where you want him to go. Many thanks Coach. You're the best. Ken

Thank you for the kind words and the money! If enough people are willing to pay, I'll make more how-to videos for KZbin. All of my best content is behind the paywall at my member site www.llbmtb.com. You'll find the most complete approach to cornering anywhere. I love how similar all the sports are at the core level.

Heartfelt message! "All the worlds a stage". Or as Rush put it in Limelight... "All the world's indeed a stage We are merely players Performers and portrayers Each another's audience outside the gilded cage" PtP's MTb fame was his gilded cage. "Living on a lighted stage Approaches the unreal For those who think and feel In touch with some reality Beyond the gilded cage Cast in this unlikely role, Ill-equipped to act With insufficient tact One must put up barriers To keep oneself intact Living in the Limelight The universal dream For those who wish to seem Those who wish to be Must put aside the alienation Get on with the fascination The real relation The underlying theme Living in a fisheye lens Caught in the camera eye I have no heart to lie I can’t pretend a stranger Is a long-awaited friend All the world’s indeed a stage And we are merely players Performers and portrayers Each another’s audience Outside the gilded cage"

I don't understand loading the outside pedal by backpedaling? I don't understand how this puts more traction down, isn't it the same amount of weight going through the bottom bracket the whole time?
@costalcu
@costalcu Ай бұрын
I think he's talking about the rear foot: instead of doing a whole revolution, you just backpedal a little to put it in the 6 o'clock position. This way the weight shifts to the outside to counterbalance the lean of the bike. This creates the same traction you would have with level pedals and straight bike.
@shanevaughan7809
@shanevaughan7809 Ай бұрын
@@costalcu ahhhh counterbalance, that makes sense, the pedal @ 6,7,8 o'clock is acting like a lever and in turn creating traction. Thanks for helping clear that up for me.

Right on man. That is wonderful. That was one of the earliest insights from 20 years ago, and it still works! That said, I've discovered a new "twist" on leaning the bike. It works way better for cornering and ties to all other forms of pumping.

I watched this a few days before my first enduro race, which included a gnarly tech line that I'd previously finished in a terrifying, white-knuckled 6:24. On race day, on the same line, I had maybe the most fun I've had on a bike and finished in a calm and confident 3:41, I suspect almost exclusively because of how you described steep braking here. Huge thanks.

First step is to master the art of generating traction when you brake. You can learn that at the LLB MTB school. www.llbmtb.com Second is mastering the slalom game, then tweaking the timing so it slows you down instead of speeds you up. Also at the site.

Thanks for the reminder. I have practiced braking a fair amount, but not with any focused sessions recently. I can tell i haven't practiced it enough because I often have to think about heavy braking to then use it on the trail. More driveway reps to the rescue!

This is a skill that is essential to being a successful mountain biker. Every time I see a rider skid the back tire I instantly cringe because it's clear they don't know what they are doing. I have also met mountain bikers who don't know which is their front and which is their rear brake.

Meanwhile, professional riders and professional builders are still progressing the sport, for their enjoyment, and us spectators. It's real easy to "back seat drive" or, "armchair quarterback" a situation like this, when, at the end of the day, as spectators (or, mere mortals) we will never fully grasp the psychology that it takes to attempt a jump like this ravine gap. So in the meantime, we can only live vicariously through the bold efforts of the select few that have what it takes.

I know the jump would benefit with he correct points you’ve made. But isn’t the point of the jump as well as Hardline to test the riders and push them to the limits? So only the exceptional riders can jump it.

I can’t possibly imagine or comprehend the skill of these riders soo… honestly, I could be talking shit.
