Worth mentioning that we should avoid storing our kites in sheds and garages because the pesky mice like to make nests with the kite material. Also, I have found storing my kites in my loft exposes them to harmful extremes of hot and cold temperatures. So, where to store my kites? They’re with me in my bedroom!

Same here! I’m using an 2 m long cardboard box in which I rest the kite. Without folding it into 3 (as you’d to carry it in the bag) So for those weeks / months that I don’t use it the fabric is only rolled across and not bent at all. Just feels better knowing that the kite fabric is a little more relaxed!

@@denizsogutlu2070 Thanks, good thinking. I’ll fold my kites in two instead of three and change the fold regularly. I don’t have the space not to fold them at all. But thanks again for your tip.

Super helpful video thank you Tom - I sometimes go downwind crossing the wave and sometimes upwind and wondered if one was wrong, good to know each has its place. I also let the bar out a bit going over the wave which seems to help me stay on the board and balanced, is that correct?

It's quite difficult to control the kite once you jumped off your surf in toe side and got punched with the wall. Any tips to train that?

Loved this video! Super helpful thank you. ✨🙌 I’m in Paje, Zanzibar currently, just came back from my first lesson. Gave the standing up a few tries and hearing your tips will help a lot to improve tomorrow. For future videos, a slow-mo situation how you turn your tips into reality would be great 🙃 Also first time I came across your videos, ignore it if that’s implemented already ;)

I’m trying to learn upwind in the sea ( I got it on a flat lake ) and what I’m finding is I lose speed when edging up wind so I’m constantly diving the kite and going down wind a bit in order to pick up speed and the cycle continues … I end up 500 metres from my starting pint within 10 mins . The sea has a powerful tide in the same direction as wind so it’s extra hardcore

I’ve had 2 full lessons of just attempting to ride the board properly and failing. Wiping out 60 times isn’t much fun. Having 2 very different experience instructors also doesn’t help. Hate learning new sports but have to think of the end goal…..

Would be somewhat helpful but we can't see the kite in most of the clips. I bought a slingshot 12 meter and I can't keep the dang thing in the air! Its so delayed in response. Everything you read and hear says not to get a C kite but now I kinda wish I would've because they are apparently quick to respond. I reeeally hate when ANYTHING responds with a delay! Ive flown radio control airplanes for like 25 years and there's zero delay! There cannot be or youll crash it so this delayed response is really hard for me, and you have to pull so far left or right for a reaction! Seems like it will be a workout of its own instead of focusing on the board! Every video you watch theyre just standing there talking to the camera and their kite is just hanging out up there.. nope not mine! It wants to pass me and then the lines go slack so you constantly have to keep doing figure 8s to keep it from passing me. I dono what I'm doing wrong.

Its always a good idea to get lessons if you havent already. Some of the older kites can be a little slower. Slingshot brand have alot of models, do you know which one you have & the year

It seems if you get some depth, it could be tough on your back with the kite pulling your center of gravity back, but the weight of the water pushing your upper body the opposite direction? So I guess you want to get your lift as soon as possible, before you get buried?

Hi Tom, great review thanks. Not sure if I missed it, but how heavy are you please? I would love to buy a REO but my 10.5 kite is the perfect size for me in our 17 to 23 knot Australian wind. REO's only come in a 10 or 12 and I heard that the low end is weak, but I didn't want to go as big as a 12. I'm 86kg and ride a 6' surfboard.

“No time is wasted!” I agree with this and not getting frustrated! We learn something every time we go out! VERY COMPLETE step by step progression and instructions! I got lessons and watched a load of videos, but also found that big fins from www.RideUpWind.com also really helped me get thru the initial learning process.

Awesome man, I wish I've seen it before, this is so important to get right in order to enjoy more the waves, I do it strapless and in the start I struggled and had to figure it out myself, but even now I know I got some nice insights that will improve my odds at hitting more waves in less time no matter the conditions. Thanks a million!

Spot-on! Yes, everything was happening to fast for me that I didn’t have enough presence of mind to put it all together and get up wind, until I got a set of super twintip fins from www.RideUpWInd.com and started cutting up wind! Now kitting is so much more fun!!!

Great video, the slow motion helps. Just this weekend I got wiped out by a large (huge) wave. I kept the kite in the air but unfortunately I lost my board then it found me, right in the head. I needed seven stitches and two weeks off from the beach. Needless to say I have just bought a helmet for the next time I go out in the waves. I would highly recommend wearing a helmet, I learnt the hard way.
