By Social Media standards, this video is OLD. But by human standards, to me, it's new. And it's fair, insightful, and - dare I say - accurate. I have two recommendations: One, download a mod, I think it's called Combat Rebalance, or just Combat Fix. But not for Starfield. For Morrowind. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that part. Also download Morrowind. And apply the Combat mod. I would also recommend some of the amazing graphics mods. Like grass. Also a mod called Tamriel Rebuilt. Tamriel Rebuilt triples the game area. Adds quests. With that, the lovely graphics, and the fixed combat, you have, at your fingertips, the ultimate TES game. Oh, also reschedule any matrimonial obligations. You won't be available. The second recommendation, and this takes a leap of faith. But one that I sincerely believe is worth the effort. Actually, there is zero risk, because you can abstain at any time. But if you have never done so, download a little, obscure game that few are even aware of, called Minecraft. Stop laughing. No, really. This is a "trust me, bro" situation. But not any version. First, it must be the Java edition. Once you have it, you can select what version you want to install. And this is important: nothing newer than version 1.16.5. Ideally, only 1.16.5. This is after they updated the Nether. But before they completely nerfed the game. And that's important. Despite what you may have heard, it's not a kids game. Play on Normal or Hard, but not Hardcore. There are no instructions. There is no stated goal. Just survive. Imagine being stuck in the wilderness, but instead of hypothermia, bears and infection, there are zombies, skeletons and spiders. Pretty much a one-to-one ratio. Some things you will have to look up. It's cool, everyone does at some point. But if I spent this long just to tell you about it, with no ulterior motive, I can't be all full of sht, right? And I'm not some punk. I graduated high school in 1986. It's not a kids game. I'm more than confident that you will love it. There you go. I'm done proselytizing. Modded Morrowind and Minecraft 1.16.5. Next week we'll get to the "N, O, P" games. If you really, really like them, and I'm sure you will, blame me.

I'm a fan of these games, beat ER twice. I've tried several of ds2 and ds3's difficulty/game overhaul mods. But your video can use a lotta work. There's a lot of issues you've not covered properly. 5:43 I gotta completely disagree here. Tedium, bad communication and frustration does not equal difficulty. Main reason people disliked ds2 sotfs. The other games toned it down, but ER jacks it up. 6:30 Doom eternal has an easy mode yet isn't easy because it also has hard mode, challenge runs, master levels, etc. Infact, ds2 sotfs did something similar. Wasn't exactly easy. So why does ER not do this at all? Elden ring has Crap camera, FPS lock, low fov, crap performance, etc. This helps game's experience be worse. Will we learn to deal with it like we deal with bethesda's bugs and lack of technical polish? Even indie titles like distance put fromsoft to shame in this department. Overworld has inconsistent difficulty. You will either be too OP for a boss, or too underpowered for a boss. Most, don't want this. There's solutions for this. 45:30 Fromsoft could've put an arena so you can refight the mainline bosses, made the world smaller, NG+ chanes, give you challenge runs to do, remove the horse or limit it, add a literal hard mode, etc. World could've had WAY more friendly NPC's/enemies, more unique interactions, proper quests, etc. 46:41 Agree, elden ring = Ds3+. So why do we fight BB and sekiro bosses with dark souls speed? Was issue in ds3, even worse in ER. Crap for slow weapons. Making you slower than the spammy main bosses is not difficulty. Doom eternal amped your speed over 2016 to counter faster, more aggressive enemies/bosses. Still a hard game. Community of fromsoft is one of the worst. Actually criticize the game and you'll be hit with bunch of ''git gud's'' and ''deal with it's'' with zero arguments. With community like this why would fromsoft ever really improve? Elden ring is FAR from perfect or ever be considered perfect.

The most frustrating thing about all of this is that they could have made a faithful remake of FF7, but they choose not to. Instead they would rather follow modern trends in story telling (multiverse/time travel) instead of being loyal to the promise they made decades ago.
@idiotsmonthly39698 ай бұрын
What's even MORE frustrating is that the Faithful Remake is still there - it just has to live beside this multiverse-ghost thing that doesn't seem to serve a purpose outside of some kind of marketing stint...

personally, I feel that you’re wrong about the ending of remake in the sense of they should’ve ended in the flashback well for one. It’s a very underwhelming moment for the gamers because there’s no tension in ending a game in a flashback with a boss fight, because we already know what happened to the main character. also it’s pretty long like as you went through all the things they have to do and all for an exposition dump for a possible logical final Bossfight that has no tension because literally everybody knows what the outcome is and finally to just be an introduction. I feel like this is only in service of a fan because they already know exactly what all this means as opposed to a new player who’s jumping into these games. Also, the evidence that they may have thought of using that as the ending originally is very faulty and very unnecessary too because probably they did think about that and they probably did wrote it down that way first and then someone was like NAH I feel that it doesn’t really work that way. Like again, you’re only real evidence is a line which is not very hard because Final Fantasy is literally the king of referencing itself almost all the time even the most obscure ones that people might not know heck the kingdom heart series constantly references, lines and phrases that other characters say in between games so many times that it kind of hurts

I like the whispers bro. I was 14 when this game came out and have been a hardcore fan since. The original still exists and I feel this is more of a sequel than a 1 to 1 remake . I like it I already know the old story and I’m interested in what the developers have reimagined.
@idiotsmonthly39698 ай бұрын
I'm curious - what do you like about them? I don't think there's anything redeemable about them :p A 1-to-1 Remake was never what this was going to be and wasn't what people really wanted anyway. The irony of the Whispers is that they irrevocably tether Remake to the original - now Remake can't stand on its own. Were you not confused as to the origin of Sephiroth's villainy or who that black-haired guy at the end was and looked to the original for clarification? IDK man - the Whispers do nothing for me except call attention to the fact that this is an adaptation and thus must exist in the shadow of the original. The Whispers ARE the chains, man!

Reminds me of twin peaks part 3, lot of similarities really. That dark Cloud. The way you can't go back. The zeitgeist has changed. Trying to emulate past events always leaves a taste of failure. But the way they dance around the script amplifies and creates new moments that I truly enjoy. Overall I think this will remain, as an epic saga, with those characters we love, up there in the sky.

Remake and rebirth shifts the hierarchy of story from love and loss in the og to a b-rated suspense of timeline and multiverse. It dilutes down the story into a dull puzzle solving dreadfulness. The forcefully added content kills the flavour and they screams for justification, which is sign of bad writing from someone whose taste and ability is lower than the ambition. This leads to a counter argument: is the idea that are wrong or the execution of them is off? Something is off.
@idiotsmonthly39698 ай бұрын
I feel you - the fact that they’re so tacked-on-feeling is the genesis of why I suspect they’re a late-edition add on. And the love and loss stuff is still in there, it’s just gotta be roommates with the multiverse stuff - which feels more like a marketing gimmick to me than any kind of creative decision. I dunno - I’d love to be a fly on the wall behind those scenes. We’ll see! Honestly, it’s the ambivalence that eats at me the most. I’d love to know if REMAKE TRILOGY is worth it now before I’ve sunk so much time and $$$ into it! :p

Great video! I really liked your mix of passion, intellect and humor here! I agree with most of what you've said about the remake, but I think you're slightly off with your takes on the inclusion of the timeline ghosts and the decision to not have part 1 end at the flashback. I think the point of them isn't a last minute throw in, but rather to show divergence in the timeline. I take it that their intentions for their inclusion was to showcase the developers are going to be making changes, but the original FF7 is still going to be preserved. I think it's more the plans to keep all the versions of FF7 intact and consistent rather than just completely rewriting the legacy of the original. It's not meant to replace, in other words. Is this a good decision? Uhhh, I don't think so! But I don't think it is solely being done to for greedy purposes, and is instead meant to be showing that this is it's own, separate game that's set within the FF7 universe, regardless of how dumb, stupid, and pointless that is. You will still always have and forever cherish the original game, at the very least! With this benefit of the doubt on my part, it's easy to see why I would think they wanted to end where it ended. It's under the impression you already know what FF7 is, have played it, and are familiar with it. It's stretching itself as a kind of sequel, kind of reboot, with the purposd to subvert your expectations as it's own original game instead of what the title reads. Does that make Sephrioh's exposure less impactful for people new coming in? Yes! Because they expect you to play the "first game". Is all of this kind of dumb and convoluted for no reason? Yes! But that's what my impression of what the developers were going for with the game.
@idiotsmonthly39698 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you got a kick out of it. Well, in any event, we agree that the ghosts are a blunder! And I don't think the ghosts were there for a greedy reason (and you don't need them there to have REMAKE be it's own thing - you can just do that! It's its own thing by the nature of its existence - no in-universe justification needed!), but rather as a last-minute climax replacement. I get the justifications - but none of those justifications are IN-UNIVERSE justifications... because they don't work in-universe. They only work out-universe. At the end of the day, I don't think the plot-ghosts are there for a purely creative reason - I think they're a band-aid over something. FF7Remake ran out of time or money or energy and plastered the ghosts over whatever was missing. But let's say I'm wrong and the ghosts were always planned to be there and the game was always planned to end on the Midgar Highway. Sure... but even in that scenario the ghosts are an expression of an extreme lack of confidence. The makers weren't confident in the adaptational changes they intended to make (which to reiterate, I liked pretty much everything they added besides the ghosts :p) and felt like they needed to have the ghosts to ease the transition. But fan backlash always dies down and the ghosts are stuck in there forever... it's just... ugh... they gotta go. They gotta go! They nearly ruin the game! The big irony of the Plot-Ghosts is that they're present to keep the changes from ruining the game - but the changes are fine! It's the PLOT-GHOSTS that are ruining the game! One strike! Catastrophic Error!

One thing to note is that Bethesda's previous titles all coasted off of being the products of the work of others. The Elder Scrolls was a creation of Bethesda's original founders, who built the first game off their DnD campaign setting. Fallout was an IP they bought from Interplay, which itself was originally going to be a game based off the GURPS tabletop rpg system. Starfield meanwhile is the first IP they've created from scratch. And actual worldbuilding requires deep thought and interactivity and cohesion, something the writers - or at least Emil given his disinterest in deep storywriting - are not up to snuff on.

To me, Starfield is the biggest “Collection of dev/designer “if-only”s neatly wrapped into a bouqet of marketing flavor texts and cool-sounding numbers”. The game made me feel like waking up at 8 on a spring saturday, and seeing the warm sunshine through the windows not being able to go out and enjoy it because I have to clean the house. There were so many missed shots, so much potential for intrigue, or emotion and then they delivered the gaming equivalent of unseasoned chicken breast, because every bit of design was done by an intern under leads who provided such useful feedback as “will this look good on the steam store page?” “Will this earn us applause and cheers at E3?”. It is very apparent thst noone in the studio cared about anything relating to this game besides Todd “I’m not just a salesman I also lie compulsively” Howard
