Thank you so much for this Cathy! Do you have any tips for the response of the middle register Es and E flats? I think my fingers are moving okay but those middle register Es for some reason I am having some trouble placing it in exactly the right spot. Thanks in advance!

Very lovely. But why not a serene smile howsoever slight at the last for a job well done rather than a reprise of American Gothic?

Thanks for this video! So much great information. I was wondering about the phrasing of the first F# of the triplet section as I was practicing/recording, so my ears perked up when you talked about that :)

Yes! Tempo markings!! I was playing out of Carol Wincenc' wonderful edition of Andersen Op. 15 which she arranged for two flutes! Clearly she has adjusted the tempo markings in this edition to be more manageable! Sorry I didn't catch that when I was making this video. I knew the markings seemed to be too reasonable for Andersen! So, I guess that is a case in point: Andersen's original markings are often too fast to serve the music well, in my opinion. Thanks for bringing my attention to this!

I love how this technique allows for good phrasing in a way that a single note cannot. Thanks for the video Catherine. I’ll be sharing this with some of my best young students on saxophone for whom breath support development has been a major focus in lessons.

I love your detailed explanations of the phrasing. I think having such a clear idea of what the shapes are really contributes to the musical expression. And it helps in the audition to have that structure to follow.

BEAUTIFUL playing! I love your unique and gorgeous interpretation of this piece! I noticed that you were trilling the F key (I think that’s what it is as I always mix these up) at 9:45. Were you just trolling that key alone, or were you also trilling using the left thumb? Asking because I’m recording this in a few weeks for a competition, and am looking for ways to make this trill a little faster and easier for me. Amazing playing, once again! I hope I get the privilege of hearing you perform live one day! Cyrus
