Just an advice to all new nurses. I hope you are contributing to your 401k or 403b to at least get the max employer matching %. This is a benefit that you will be thankful for going into retirement and it can lower your tax rate esp if you do not have much deductions like children or a mortgage. Goodluck. Be wise with your finances. 😊

Hello sir Daniel and sir Aaron. I also work in a skilled nursing facility in PA. I am into my 2nd month now and it feels like it's been 2 years. 😁 My preceptor was a Filipina nurse who was super patient with me. I don't have one permanent unit assigned to me. For 2 days in a week I'll be in the mech vent unit and the rest of the week I will be in the LTC unit. It's a physically exhausting job but definitely a fulfilling one. Shoutout to all SNF nurses!!! 🥰

I agree with your suggestion to refresh on basic nursing skills before coming to the US to work. Pag dating niyo pa lang dito, while waiting for SSN, best time na yun to watch KZbin vids on nursing skills since it takes 1-2 weeks. If may hospital experience kayo sa Pinas, it’s like riding a bike. Maaalala niyo. Ang naencounter ko na hindi ko naexperience sa PH is starting hypodermoclysis and using a Kangaroo pump, though self explanatory na yung use ng pump. 😆 It also helps to familiarize yourself with wound products to use depending on the type of wound you’re treating. Re: Nurse-Patient Ratio, depends siguro sa employer. I was told nasa 18 lang ang patients per nurse. Found out we can handle 22-44 depending on the shift and unit you will work at. Work culture, shift diffs, bonus pay, nurse-patient ratio- all depends on the facility you will be working at. Kayang kaya naman po matutunan ang lahat. Don’t be discouraged if matagal na kayong wala sa bedside, kaya. I was out of bedside nursing for 9 years prior to working in the US. Re: Pay rate, it helps not to convert to PHP. Iba kasi cost of living sa US, and cost of living depends on your lifestyle. Kahit $50/hr kayo sa kilalang state, kung kain kayo ng kain sa labas, konti lang mauuwi niyo at the end of the day. Congrats, sir! Masayang makita na happy kayo sa work so far. 👍

For me mas masaya pag maraming pinoy kasi may karamay ka palagi sa hirap at saya. What I mean is mas nagkakaintindihan tayo sa isat isa pero it’s depends pa rin sa tao

For those who want info about acute rehab. It is usually for patients that need intensive inpatient rehab but have no medical problems anymore needing acute care. Eg. Post op ortho, spine patients, stroke or TBI patients. But sometimes, they also take medical patients. They do evaluate pts before they take them. Depends on insurance coverage too.

Hindi nama siguro mang yayari ang ganon kahabang delay kung ang St. Luke’s hindi Sputum Method ang ginagamit sa pag detect kung may TB ang aplikante. May iba naman na test method sa pag detect ng TB within 72 hrs may result agad. Sa U.S nga skin test lang ginagawa nila.Ewan ko ba sa St. Luke’s na yan.
