Sad to come here now but I've been watching a bunch of 399 videos. I never got to see her in person. You should be proud and I'm sure it's an experience that can't be replicated. RIP 399.

Did your passenger seat have the flat repair kit under it? I'm trying to figure out where I should install my heater considering the space under my passenger seat is occupied with the emergency jack and flat tire change kit...
@OutOfThisVan26 күн бұрын
We took it out of the massive case and made it as compact as possible. Then we bungied it to the side under the seat. We put the rest of the small parts in the glove box.

Excellent filming both videos. All of them actually. Former Alaska resident, best I can say is I saw 30 bears over a season in Yakutat. Lived mostly in SE Alaska in Sitka but other places explored. Retired in Costa Rica but maybe a van and travels in the mainland where I have spent less time other than Homer and Anchorage, and explore in the future. Thanks for the inspiration!

Kind of outrageous that you are advocating disposing of human waste in the trash and landfill. This is illegal in California and probably most of N America. Talk about giving #vanlife a bad name.... See CA Health & Safety Code Section 117555 - Unlawful placement, deposit, or dumping of sewage, sludge, cesspool, or septic tank effluent, accumulation of human excreta, or solid waste. The term "composting" toilet is misleading unless the waste is deposited in a facility where it can be composted. In you throw it in the trash it goes into a landfill. I'm looking for an actual sustainable solution rather than a feel good idea that doesn't really work.

I have a self-contained diesel heater, works great put the pump makes a horrible clicking and it takes a lot of amps to start it. So most people just leave then tin.

How much did it cost
@OutOfThisVan3 ай бұрын
I don’t remember what our final tally ended up being since we were refunded the last leg of the trip due to engine issues. It was definitely expensive for us around 2000. It varies year to year and depends on a lot of different factors. It’d just their website for more information. Google Alaska Marine Highway.

Great guide 🙌.. IS it a good idea to try the trail by December 1st week?
@OutOfThisVan4 ай бұрын
I have no first hand experience with this. I imagine some trails on the island are good still. This was shot all in the summer.
@vee24253 ай бұрын
I live on Vancouver Island in Victoria and we think riding in the spring and fall are best for less dry and dusty conditions. The days are shorter though so bring lights if you want to do a long ride. Mt. Washington is actually a ski resort, so no riding in the winter, In December, it could be muddy or a bit wet so bring the right type of clothing. Contrary to one of the comments, it’s actually extremely dry in the summer with practically no rain at all(typically June through September). Winters are rainy and we do get a bit of snow and cold, especially in the more northern parts of the island but spring usually comes by the end of February/ early March. Victoria is more drizzly but the forests are alive and colourful. You can always hike if you can’t ride! Places like Cumberland have sooo many trails. There are different types of trails depending where you go. Some are flowy and some are more technical, like the ones in Victoria. My advice would be to stay flexible. The weather may be unpredictable in December, but if you have a good rain jacket and wear layers ( very important for the changing weather and damp) you can get out and really enjoy the forests and beaches even if you can’t ride.
@hyphyrocker4 ай бұрын
The hikers don't move out of the way because the trail rule is: Stock animals always have the right of way. Hikers yield to stock. Bikes yield to hikers and stock. I realize that this video is 4 years old, so hopefully you've learned that by now. 😁

It takes you 8 MINUTES to get to the content found in your title. Also you don't give specific data in regards to your speeds by the trees.
@OutOfThisVan4 ай бұрын
I’m really sorry we didn’t meet your expectations for this video. In the trees the speeds are the same. The issue is the Starlink will constantly disconnect and reconnect because of the obstructions (trees). So video calls wouldn’t work well.
