She hit the nail on the head when she said the smug factor is off the scale, electric AND Aston Martin. Because that’s what it’s about for many people, saying I’m rich and better than you. Oh you can’t afford 60k for a medium saloon? Such a shame. You live in a terrace and have to park 3 streets away so can’t charge overnight? Not my problem. Just get with the programme and get back on the bus leaving roads clear for the likes of us eh?

95% of care reviewers have no ideea how to drive a car. This car can do amazing cornering at 100-120km/h, super takeovers and is quite sporty. There's nothing confusing about this car, quit your job and start reviewing bicycles.

screen switchgear are a nightmare when on the move!! Try threading a shoelace through a shoe eyelet whilst staring straight ahead on a cobbled road......... you will wish for traditional switchgear....... also time how long it takes to set a temperature on the AC screen with your finger pressing on the screen.......... takes ages....I MEAN ages......... or you could do it instantly with a simple rotary dial......... technology is'nt always better

thing about all electric, at least in the states, is that not everyone lives where they are practical. Many of us have to drive way over 40 miles each way to work. So full electric vehicles in their current versions aren't practical. And frankly, i'm not convinced electric or hybrids are that much better for the environment. That electricity used for charging comes from somewhere. Its not free. "Oh, it can come from wind and/or solar power" you say. Well, those two sources come with their own set of environmental problems. Wind being the absolute worst. And lets not forget that lots of petroleum is still needed to build the cars (and their tires). And the batteries come with their own set of environmental issues. So let the market decide. I think ultimately hydrogen will be the answer.

I think they say it because that's the segment they're designed for by the manufacturers. This car for example has isofix points even on the front passenger seat. No one will stop you from driving one of these without kids though 😉

The i3 efficiency is often overlooked. Another post here covers this, but everyone looking at EV's focus on range and power (for the guys that talked their wife into the Tesla just for that 0-60 in 3 second rush). In fact, battery size is never a free ride, it's still physics. Bigger battery costs more to charge, takes longer, weighs more and makes the car heavier and slower. This in turn cuts range and acceleration from the theoretical gain of the battery kWh alone, plus wears tires faster. The i3 was a "ground-up" design that took weight and battery size into account to optimize range and performance by getting the most from a relatively small battery in light, nimble car. Carbon body, alloy frame, plastic body panels permits smaller batteries, tires, etc., while still giving good performance and decent range.

Do not buy this car! I have a 2020 T8 and the ERAD has just gone (had it since 2021 as a low mileage demo from the garage). Absolutely no help or support from Volvo. £10k bill for motor and transmission...it's that or scrap the car! This is clearly an issue with this model as you will see from the Volvo forums. Although a great car in most other respects, this should be a deal killer. Unless you have an insurance that will cover it don't go near this car. What is most frustrating is that I know that Volvo know this is an issue! My advice, go for a BMW or a Lexus.

If this is really going to take off, it has to solve 3 problems. 1. (minor) The swap out needs to be a little bit faster. Petrol filling is less than 5 minutes with pay-at-the-pump. The issue here is not just the time the machine takes, but the time in the queue for the machine. 2. Cost - this does look like the sort of thing that will appeal to people or companies who think nothing of paying 40 grand for a car. Not going to appeal to thrifty second hand car users. 3. Standardisation - as the guy set, it's just NIO cars.

35 - 40MPG just sounds so low for a hybrid. May as well just save all of that weight and nasty batterys. CVTs are also horrible "gearboxes" There are just much better powertrains now.

I love the e-CVT in my Lexus NX (nothing like old fashioned CVTs and it seems still much misunderstood by the majority of motoring journalists many of whom incorrectly still talk of rubber band belt drive - There is no belt in the Lexus transmission it is driven by a sophisticated arrangement of planetary gears). Very smooth, extremely clever technology (capable of seamlessly switching between 9 different modes) optimising the efficiency of the Atkinson Cycle petrol IC engine (Diesel wasn't an option for me this time as I now do many short journeys which spell death for the DPF). No mechatronics units, dual clutches or belts to wear out, perfectly fast enough when needed, very relaxing to drive and with the comfort of the outstanding Lexus reliability and 10 year warranty. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWeUiJyegreXoK8

That's not how it works... It's not using heat to regen, it's using the electric motor as an alternator being turned by the cars momentum keeping the wheels spinning. Also on a leaf the e-pedal actively applies the brakes and lights up the brake lights when you come off the accelerator. Selecting 'B' on the gear selector turns on the regenerative braking on, which just feels like engine breaking in a manual but instead of the wheels generating force to keep an engine turning it turns the electric motor. As an electric motor is the essentially same thing as an alternator it generates current when manually turned as opposed to generating rotational force when current is applied... The generated current is used to charge the battery by a small amount.

Was just about to buy one and heard about a brake simulator fault which half a million cars have been recalled for in Japan. Other hybrids are also affected apparently. Honda have not yet recalled in the UK. Some owners report the cost at over 2k and wait time for parts of weeks. Some dealerships have paid 40% , others not. Cars affect are 2018 -2022 , Jazz, CRV, and HRV, hybrids. The brakes don;t fail completely but are compromised. We are very disappointed having owned three Hondas and were on the verge of buying a fourth. We planned to take it across Europe but this sounds scary.
