You say it yourself, cool downstairs and warmer upstairs, and thats where you place your pantry. What is the thought with having a warm pantry? It seems wiser to have it closer to the ground where the temperature will be more even and potentially cooler.

Hey I see your mill head cuts 180 from the way to manual says. I was wondering was that intended and what your reasons where for doing that? I have a 130max and was going to set mine up the same as yours I can see alot of benefits doing it that way I wasn't sure how good it would work out

We've been asked that question to. Self reliance is beyond comprehension for most folks. Many times over the years when storms come through folks call to check on us because their power is out. Nice of them but we never knew.

Traditionally you would use a cable or rope in a V with the center just under the log, with the hook on this bite, this way it will track straight every time and you get a double purchase making it easier on the winch. You will need to move the winch back some. If you read the small print on the winch it says not to use it non stop for more than a few minutes or it will burn up, I have done that.

I have the same tractor ,but no loader or frt mounted hyd pump. Put a 3 pt carryall with IBC tote cage on to haul saws and wood. Good little tractor, starts when the farmalls wont.

Ok, you are using green wood, bugs love green wood. You can do several things to stop bugs, burn the wood they do not like burnt wood, you can use chemicals to treat the wood like BORE-CARE which penetrates 4 inches in the wood, or you can go to your local Lowes/Home Depot to see what they have that you can use. I know you do not want to hear this, but you need to cut your trees early in the spring and debark them, once debarked they need stacked and air dried for one year. Watch more videos of people building cabins or anything with raw wood, like "Smoky Mountain Outpost", The Outsider", "My Self Reliance" and "Girl in the Woods" who by the why is building a cabin, she just did a video where she cut down to logs needed. Any one of the videos are a great reference to watch. The biggest thing is to not get discouraged, you can build that cabin, but please do it right or you will regret it later. Good Luck!

Father in law town and country didn’t have a spare. Order a new one for his car and came with a extra scissor jack. Used it with my impact to quickly jack up my cars to do brakes and rotate tires. Ended up stripping threads in less then a year. You have less lbs but would grease the hell out of it to prolong life.

Once you have two milled sides, it's no longer a log. It's a cant.

With a log that size, you don't need to use clamps. once you have two flat sides. It aint going anywhere.

I bet it would take all of 10 minutes before I shut that mill down and started modifying that structure so I didn't have to walk out and around every time I needed to be on the other side of the saw. LoL

Good effort. As you mention this is a temporary setup and it is good for the purpose of explanation. When you do the permanent installation, adding safety components such as fuses, switches, buses, surge suppressors will make it more complex but it will be legal and safe. Mounting them on the proper backing board will add technical elegance and ease of troubleshooting.

A set of tongs is worth it for the tractor. Looks like you have a nice setup. Its hard work milling logs.

What do you do with the wood that you cut off? If a person who knows how to put a home together you can make a better case of the woods that you are cutting out they out side of the house okay

Nice upgrade. Thank you for making this video. Don't forget to reconfigure your EP ever charge controller to charge lithium, I think they come out of the box set up for lead acid. Don't be fooled that a small system isn't powerful. There's a whole lot of juice in that battery that can come out almost all at once. Don't underestimate it. A couple of fuses would be cheap insurance.

One thing I did on my Norwood. I used a hook from a broken cant hook , and a engine puller. Wrap the hook around the log and winch it around to turn the heavy hardwood like you're sawing. I used the engine crane because mine wasn't under a shed like you have. You can run a well pulley over your carriage with the hook and winch the cant in circles. Preferably an electric A/C or D/C winch. That'll save you a hernia. You can latch your hook away , instead of winching it up every time. Actually I made my crane arm so it would swivel back outa the way so the sawhead would pass by. It was an in bed truck bed crane that Harbor Freight sells , or maybe usta sell. I used the engine picker base to go under the bed for the weight of the log to push on to the ground. Its been a long time since I've sawn. Had a bad wreck , and have been laying low for a few years. You have a very nice shed covering. Im kinda envious 😅. Oh btw. Does your D15 have power steering? I have a D14 with manual steering. Wanter to put a loader on it , was afraid it wouldn't steer to good enuff.

Hate to tell you this but you have the log stops on the wrong side. Just turn the saw carriage around and push the opposite direction. It will keep you from having to walk around to the other side as well to stack boards and get rid of scraps. As the blade spins it should push the log into the stops rather than the clamps. Couple other things to consider is getting some thin wall 2 inch square tube to slip over the stops to make rolling the log easier. Also mark all log stops with a sharpie in inches so you know how low you can cut without hitting them. The pinging noise at idle is the clutch and it will wear prematurely so might lower idle speed a bit. Let the engine return to idle before switching off, it will help with the engine run on after killing it. I always use a framing square to check for 90 on the can’t. Whenever I have a large can’t I dont even bother clamping it but I have the 130 max so it has the small stops on the stainless cap to keep it from moving sideways. I also like to use sacrificial wood to prevent marking up the fresh surface with the can’t hook. Just some pointers and no offense intended. Happy milling
