The header row shows the week names and all the table cells contains dates, separate cells have month names. And this is what I want in the table, it should be dynamic so I don't have to make it by myself. The cells are the dates and they should be toggle buttons in themselves for habit tracking.

Can you please share more details about the repeating task automation in the Bulletproof workspace and how this offers a broader functionality than the native Notion one? The current "Repeat" template task that notion offers is very limited. I personally need something more advanced like is offered by the Asana recurring tasks settings so that when I set a recurring task and I mark it as done a new duplicate will >>INSTANTLY<< appear with the future date (e.g. on a Monday 4 weeks later or in 3 months, etc.). Is this possible? Hope my comment is clear enough :) Many thanks!
@WilliamNutt
@WilliamNutt 4 күн бұрын
Very clear, thanks for the question. One of Notion's biggest limitations is automation, including the inability to evaluate conditions ("if X is true, do Y, otherwise do Z"). That's what's needed to achieve your goal of instant task recreation. Until then, it'd need to be configured in Zapier, Make, etc.

Two better options than a formula: 1. Use the "Created time" property type 2. Create a template that populates the Date property with the creation date, and set the template to default (that would allow you to override the date manually if needed)

Thank you for the thoughtful and comprehensive comparison of Notion and Coda. As one of the few remaining people who don't currently use either app, I wanted to ask more generally: what is the fundamental "purpose" or benefit of these apps? Is the value proposition primarily that they replace existing apps for note-taking, spreadsheets, project management, etc., with a single app? Or do they serve as an integration tool that helps to organize and consolidate disparate types of information (notes, images, databases, etc.) that would otherwise be siloed in separate documents and apps, thus making it easier to organize, maintain, utilize, and share that information? I'm about to launch my startup and trying to figure out whether and how one or both of these might fit into my tech stack. Thanks for the fantastic content!!

Thanks Alex. All of the above 🙃. The benefits of Notion and Coda run the gamut. They're a single place to manage information of every type, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts thanks to the relationships among data. They're also fully customizable for suiting the unique workflows of users and teams. I'd definitely choose one or the other-not both. If you have the resources, I'd love to help you make the best choice and implement it to be most effective.

Hi, I'm new to Notion. I bought Bulletproof and I want to get to the bottom of it. Can I include sprints and so on in the Bulletproof template by just adding a new column in the task database? But I only need this for the development team.
@WilliamNutt
@WilliamNutt 25 күн бұрын
Thank you. Bulletproof doesn't use the Notion Projects databases because the features are overkill for most users. Because only your dev team needs them and their products are mostly unique and independent, you could implement the system only for them and manage those projects separately. But to keep the system cohesive, you could simply create your own Sprints database and relate it to Tasks. It wouldn't work exactly like Notion's, but it'd accomplish your needs.

I create automated workflows for my clients using both Notion and Coda (their choice). I agree with William's overall description - Notion is the expresso machine - simple and easy - but VERY limited for automating complex business workflows - CODA is the barrista-sized industrial coffee maker - powerful, versatile, and capable of automating ANY business process no matter how complex. What is not highlighted here is the EXTRA power you get from CODA once you start to use its AI capabilities - its way ahead of all the alternatives in that regard. Max

@@HippieP629You can create virtually unlimited views of a table. It's just that they aren't displayed like tabs in Notion but you add them to a page or separate pages. You can make them collapsible though. And if you absolutely want the tabbed experience, there is totally a way to build it. Since Coda filters can be formulas, you can totally set up your filtered views elsewhere, and then set up your "main" view to filter on the rows included in either of those other views based on some dropdown. You can then create a row of buttons to switch between those filter sets. This is actually giving me an idea for a video, so thanks!

Is this a clear question? Along with a challenge. In Filemaker Pro I can go to a file and pre-filter the choice down to an decision. For example, exercise/running, exercise/swimming, or exercise/lifting weights - 2 clicks. And then paste that data back in the main transaction file. Can Notion do this? because I can't make it. And if not, can Coda do this? I couldn't do it. I started in CODA and really liked it for a while, but the best people seemed to favor Notion so I went to it not to be confused by Coda stuff. I could get neither of them to do what I do in Filemaker Pro. Here's my challenge to Notion or Coda: do what I do in Filemaker Pro. IF you can, and IF you do you i believe you will ALL forget PARA, Snd Brain, The Blah Blah system, the system you made up, (unless you are happy) because you will have arrived at programming's core, GHS. There will be nothing else to do. It's taking me too long to do this on my own. tinyurl.com/2fd99nx Notion-Coda people think you are inventing the future and you are not even reinventing the wheel. You're just stumbling around. GHS has been established for centuries. It's just now available "in the flesh" using Filemaker Pro. I've been using this system since 1995. It's flawless in architecture. I'd like to see my GHS system in both Notion-Coda, for FREE, so everybody can be happy with their Notion-Coda system. But I'm not making it happen. And I just go back to using my flawless Filemaker Pro system to rest my brain.

So basically why Coda is much superior to Notion in almost every way. 😅

True for users with the tech chops to leverage its superiority. Many users are better served by Notion's simplicity.

Shhh, don't let the notion template sellers read that =) It's wild how rabid user-bases of notion, obsidian, etc are. A while back I asked a "notion expert" on twitter why they chose notion instead of coda. Holy crap, the backlash. It's like I damn near killed his puppy. Tons of folks have made $$ off of marketing their templates. I see notion and coda like iOS and android. One of them has pumped trillions into marketing and the other is actually superior for users that want more functionality. Marketing, marketing, marketing. If I had Coda's ear, I would've told them to put out videos CONSTANTLY a while back. They haven't. Even their ai video a while back was cringe and low-budget. But even more importantly, once the user-base evangelize for you, (e.g. "Hey ya'll, come check this out...") that's $ in the bag.
