The Irresistible Forces band was one of those collaborations that makes you ask, not will there ever be another Miles, but will there ever be another band like this?

There is jazz and then there is jazz. This is jazz at it's finest. We are probably hearing this better than the actual audience...maybe not. There must be parallel universes... because Al is from one, yet intersects with this one with perfect musical sense leaving you scratching your head.

Nice! Too bad no studio recording of this group HH would have done better to document this band instead of recording lots of useless and uninteresting albums like ''Gershwin world'', ''This is da drum'' or ''Future 2 Future''

About 30 years ago i bought my first album by Greg Osby in a german store, Further Ado. It was a revelation when listening to it and I still put on this remarkable album. It's one of my all-time favourites. Finally I bought a Yanagisawa saxophone from my last money, but I'm not able to play it, cause of deficient air and lack of skill. It's just a diadem that becomes dusty, sheer nostalgia, bridge building, path-connecting! :-)

Greg and Steve Coleman are the best Saxophone players on the planet right now. Even the best sax players on youtube cant wrap their brains around what is happening in their music and how meta it really is. But I'll wager in another 20 years, Greg, Steve and the M-Base form will be emulated greatly. These cats have my RESPECT!

Thanks for posting - that was fantastic! I saw both of you, but not together (Greg, IIRC you were in Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition). Andrew struck me as a super nice guy as well as an amazing musician. He and Herbie Nichols are two of my all-time favorite pianist/composer/bandleaders - always sound great.

Is that a Selmer?
@GregOsby Жыл бұрын
It was a very nice P. Mauriat Master 97 owned by Sax.co.uk. The majority of saxophone players perform with Selmers, which is entirely the reason why I do not. Excellent instruments, of course, but their identity is much too common for my purposes.
