You made the Dune better than it was in 2015: 80° SA, 455mm chainstay with a 480mm reach and a 650mm stack is the stuff of dreams. I would really love to try it! I currently ride a Mondraker Level 2020 size M and would love to have +10mm reach and about +15mm stack or even a bit more. Hats off, Rulezman!

I looked for USD but none gave me these specs. sadly. yes, most standard forks rides crap, but this fork is beyond being a standard fork I spent 1 months working on it and it is composed by parts from 4 brands, like nothing else on planet. who think this is a just a pike, is totally wrong. this fork is a prototype

They made them heavy and told everyone it was better, meanwhile they created a market for E-Bikes because no one wanted to ride them uphill anymore and the majority of people fell for it. I'm still riding a 2016 carbon enduro bike (race model has extra 50mm of reach) and can see no reason to change. It has everything and more than anything that has come after it, I mulleted it and that slackened the head angle and fixed the too low BB issue. Rear travel is on the fly selectable 138mm or 160mm. Nobody wanted them in 2018 and I paid $1,389.12 US for the complete stock bike, 2nd hand one owner, bike was mint just needed a new cassette and chain. The only thing is the seat angle is not as steep as modern bikes, but I can climb around the steepest of corners no problem so where is the issue? People lift it and comment on how light it is, but it's not that light really, they just have heavy bikes. Just upgraded the suspension front and rear to EXT, changed the handling in a good way by a massive amount. My mate rides a 2016 era carbon Rocky Mountain and that thing is lighter than mine. The only reason I can think why people buy new bikes is because they are bad mechanics.

The difference between SuperTrail/Gravity, 1900g Enduro W33i Syntace wheelset on my dreadnought v1 and the carbon 1550g wheelset/Trailcasing Continental tire with rear insert on my druidv2 is more than noticable. I was constantly beating 3 years old PRs on uphill segments that I did on a normal suspension bike with the high pivot druid. Feels noticably more lively.. Still with my riding weight of around 95kg I am scared to go lighter. Just switched to intend suspension on the druid.. Not yet being able to ride, but I am looking forward to the Finale visit in june this year to test it in a week of riding.

I would suggest most of the performance difference here is from the rolling resistance of the tires being much less than the weight of the wheels and/or tires.

fur sure, rolling resistance plays a big role in the equation when coasting.. BUT .. overall weight rules suspension behaviour and handling way more than tire thread

The steering wheel scenario is like an Indy car, 3 & 9 o’clock on the hands. I totally agree with this setup, I personally bought a larger frame and am in the process of installing high rise bars and a shorter stem. My LBS didn’t agree with this but I’m the one riding my bike. I think road bikes have influenced MTB too much, as I am coming from dirtbikes I am used to the geometry and riding style of mountain trails and this feels more comfortable and controllable to me. yes it is designed around 30-32, way too much for proper long climbs. an average mtbker amateur cam only throw out 3-3.5watt/kg so the besr chainring for him is 26-28 max

What I found interesting, that you didn’t mention, is during the curb test you can see how the heavy setup over compresses more and the light rebounds very quickly and even touches down on the back side of the curb. The heavy wheel is in the air twice as far. That’s a loss of traction right there

Pretty interesting discussion, and I’m sure it’s great in some applications but I can see some issues. I’m most shocked at the idea of riding XL bike at 178cm, because that makes the front center extra long which puts more weight on the rear, which you’d then have to compensate for by going extra long in the rear. Going slacker (down to your preferred 63*) means even longer front end and need for longer rear. Added all up that’s a long bike, and while that’s no problem for enduro and DH, most of the trails I ride have right turns and switchbacks that favor shorter wheelbases. Inrecently purchased a Banshee Phantom frame and while the wheelbase is longer than the Evil following it is replacing, the front center increase more than makes up for that. Also, I think, since most of us aren’t racers, there is a trade off of playfulness and stability that each rider and bike designer needs to consider for themselves. MTB isn’t a one-size-fits-all sport.

I make bikes to go fast. this is what enduro and dh is all about. with an average speed of beyond 25kmh on stages, the wheelbase and my geos are the best any rider can have, sadly I keep saying this since 15 years but only very recenlty I’ve seen some pro riders copying my ideas.
