Great video. Watching this now that master modes is on the horizon. Aiming precision via mouse instead of joystick is going to matter more to me than the immersion of dual sticks.

Excellent analysis. I was lookign at dual joystick but I'll try joystick and mouse first. Another bonus is that its trviial to transition to keyboard and mouse when u're done and there's no joystick on the right to get in the way.

I remember watching this video years ago and just stumbled upon it again when I was looking up HOSAM analysis videos. I assume this is all true years later? Any updates that you'd mention now?

Actually, the best way you can define a mouse is a delta. Not analog or digital. A delta is movement/time. so it takes how much movement you made in one frame and output it into the screen.

I'd say I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to flight combat in general, but star citizen has got me very interested in it, so I loved this video! It's a huge eye opener. Right now I use stick and keyboard, and I tried using decoupled gimble assisted, which did work ok, but have gone to coupled fixed as of late. Makes sense why I gravitated towards that now as less control is just more forgiving even though it lowers the skill cap. I'm gonna start experimenting more with this information in mind though!

raised a very good case for mouse and joystick. I have been playing right handed joystick with a track ball, but I'll try with a left handed joystick.

Hi.Is there anyway to invert the z axis? Mine isn't acting like a motorbike throttle, as when I twist it anti-clockwise it decelerates instead (the opposite to a motorbike throttle). Is this what yours does or have I done something wrong?
@calkelday
@calkelday 4 жыл бұрын
It looks like Val has is set up to act the opposite of a throttle. I switched it by binding a key to 'Strafe forward/backwards invert' and leaving it set.

I searched "mouse vs joystick" and apparently (ok, it's subjective) there is no "vs", only warm fuzzy hug between the two in SC :P

Personally I would have roll on left/right axis and strafe left and right on hat switch as they have no need for analog control. I'd like to be able to control the speed at which I roll, for super smooth flying. I also think roll is much more important than people realize. A strafe is very predictable, but combine it with a roll and it immediately becomes very complex movement that is much harder to hit.
@ChopperFromHell
@ChopperFromHell 4 жыл бұрын
@@yugen Yeh the thing with this config is that you have to roll fast.. but ey.. I cannot find a more confortable setup for joy + mouse.

WONDERFUL presentation !!! I have one little thing to add and that is pedals. II was playing around finally getting a J&M set up going and decided to try my g-27 steering wheel to give me throttle forward (gas) and reverse (brake). While I'm sure folks who don't sim race will go and get this option, theoretically we CAN add two more analog inputs to your list. Now that I mention this I'm going to try to set up where I'll use the wheel for space buggies. It'll be awkward but what the heck.

As someone who has owned Star Citizen for a long time but hasn't had the time, ability, or desire to dive in until just recently I thank you. I signed in last night and attempted a delivery mission only to get blasted out of space twice before reaching the pick up location. I came to the determination that I need to at least know how to use my supped up super hornet to defend myself. So I dove into arena commander for a while last night and realized my keyboard and mouse is lacking. Luckily I already own two of those Thrustmasters you have there in your video and I never even considered Joystick Mouse as a combo. So I'll be giving this a try tonight.

This is exactly what I was about to post a negative review about, but I figured I had to go and actually google the terms I was going to write about before doing so. Glad I waited. Thank you for this very clear explanation of feints. I'll go back and turn off auto-blocking and enemy-relative attacks and start over in the arena.

I think that they could do with some better tutorials for this stuff in the game itself, because it certainly put me off. Another improvement would be some optional UI hints as to what is going on, especially if you're hitting something like a wall by accident, as this can be really not obvious if you're not used to this system. Basically, the system itself isn't bad, but it could do better to train people to use it.
