Not a medical student and got all those questions except sinus tachycardia right. I know where and what your sinuses are and tachycardia is a racing heart but i'm not sure how they interact.

1. The medical equivalent of googling your symptoms I guess 2. When you have family members having all sorts of medical conditions, you know this stuff...and then you start having them. 3. Holy gee, I literally winced. The very idea of putting something inside my urethera gives me anxiety. If I am to ever have a foley up there, I'd demand general anaesthesia. I'm serious. 4. When there are lives at stake this much of training is understandable. My country's medical education is quite different then the US, it might not be that long of a process, but we have mandatory service where doctors are sent off throughout the country (mostly rural localities) for a couple of years, and the process is like the residence described, you apply your prefered areas and then the government locates you. People even barter for their spots. 5. Reading our reports be like "which one was the good cholesterol"

Can you talk to us about factors you considered in negotiating your first job, if you had any female mentors tell you about physician gender pay gaps/what you should be asking for, and if the FTC noncompete ban will affect physician contracts?

Im hopefully beginning urology residency in 1 or 2 years. This is rly helpful. Can you make a video on expectations / what to expect when it comes to the actual work during intern year 😅 / skills that i can work on maybe even before starting so i have a more smooth transition to being a full time surgical intern

This is a little confusing to me- my residency contacted us to apply for the Texas PIT permit (physician in training permit)- I thought you applied for the actual medical license AFTER residency. Because on the Texas PIT permit, it says that you can for example complete postgraduate training as a resident (so from my understanding - the physician in training permit covers you).. Also, how did you decide on when to take step 3? I know that exam will be pretty easy, and I actually did do questions throughout fourth year b/c anxiety/not time consuming to do 10-20 qs each day- but I still really just wanna take step 3 so that I don't need to think about it but I have no idea when it will be feasible b/c my program doesn't allow us to do our step on inpatient ward months and I still do not have my schedule.
@ErinHays
@ErinHays 5 ай бұрын
That may be the only permit you need then! For us it’s a medical training license but I’m sure it differs by state. We have a rotation during our intern year that is easiest to study during so mostly everyone takes it at the end of that rotation. I do think some experience in residency helps for studying, but you can take it early if you feel confident!
@ErinHays

@@ErinHaysThanks so much! I am definitely overthinking the step 3 stuff LOLOL but board exams still make me nervous, doesn't matter how many people tell me how easy step 3 is. Also, I totally understand about the medical training license thing now- each state has different protocols :) These were helpful tips! My husband and I will both be starting residency, so we have also found a house cleaner to start once we start res to come bi-monthly and got some gym equipment so that we have an in-home gym. Definitely nervous but I know it's time to stop being a perpetual med student!!

Just got into my top choice internal medicine residency :) I am definitely nervous about studying balance in residency, so it was neat to hear your perspective. I also had the same crippling anxiety about getting answers wrong from attendings. Would definitely ruin my day haha and I would think they'd want to give me a bad grade for the rotation.. obviously, none of that ever happened.

You definitely shouldn’t have to feel like that! There is a ton of information and you definitely spend a majority of your time studying, but you should also have time to sleep appropriately and exercise and do what fills your cup!
