The pocket is DEEP in this vid. I’ve been trying to incorporate more off-beat hi-hat footwork into my drum parts as well. It’s such a fun way to “pick up the tempo” of a slow jam like this.

I use some promark scott johnson marching sticks on my drum kit and everyone says Noooo! Not correct!!! Bad! But I love it, it's improved my playing greatly, and after 3 years it has yet to damage anything on my kit like they said it would.

Nice Eric! You should definitely try a double pedal someday, they're so much better than single pedals plus it would make your little drum set even better!

I purchased a Zildjian Alchem-E Gold EX kit. I have been searching two years for a flagship electronic kit to replace my seven year old Roland TD-30KV V Pro kit. I played several top of the line electronic kits the past two years. Many of the kits drum sounds were OK, but all of the cymbals felt fake like my Roland kit. I played the Zildjian Alchem-E Bronze EX kit at the Edrumcenter booth and a Zildjian Alchem-E Gold EX at another booth during the Music City Drum Show the weekend of July 21st and 22nd. I paid $4899.00 plus $463.25 sales tax. Total $5363.24. I traded in my Roland kit, an old Hi-hat stand and bass drum pedal. I received a traded in value of $2505.00. Total out of pocket $2858.24. I setup the kit and updated the firmware to the latest version. I setup the module and assigned Yamaha Recording Custom sounds to the toms and kick drum. A Ludwig Black Beauty for a Snare drum. Cymbals as Zildjian K Sweet and ride as a Zildjian Concept Sizzle Ride. No triggering issues. My friends and family say that the kit sounds amazing. The sound of the drums are fantastic. The cymbals sound, articulation, and feel are just like real cymbals, because they are real cymbals. I love this kit.

Appreciate the review. I have seen a few comments and one review stating the triggering on the cymbals is not there yet. Do you have any comments on mis-triggers on the cymbals? Did you ever mean to get a crash sound on the edge and instead get a bow sound or anything similar?

You should do another snare buzz roll followed by the ride cymbal groove with the snare drum at this pitch, and the ride cymbal at an 8th note pattern.

My two cents; Im an older player, and found for me early on, that it was easier to achieve those quick doubles in exactly the manner in which you profess. I have been trying to incorporate a heels up style as well, and have realized that not one style is gonna fit every song, ie Immigrant song is easier for me heel up, but Swing Town, by Steve Miller, is much easier for me, esp coordination wise, completely flat footed on pedal. Why? Who kkows? Great video.

Last two fingers on the hand: ring finger and pinky; thats how the old school boys did it. Grip it and rip it. Tony Williams professed this method as he liked to say, " When you rely on all that bounce," It gets all willy nilly".

Hey new drummer here! Is a 5 stroke roll all done with rebound?
@ericproctordrums
@ericproctordrums 3 ай бұрын
yup! put the slightest bit of pressure (enough to grab a piece of paper instead of a napkin) in your fulcrum and let the stick bounce like a ball on the drum with one wrist stroke. refine this until you can pop out just two bounces rather than a bunch :)

hello Eric im struggling with this technique. ever since i started playing drums at 11 years of age i played my bass drum hell down without a problem. recently i got myself a tama hp30 pedal and i cant seem to nail the right position, everytime i try to play relaxed heel down technique my beater does a quick rebound against the drumhead. its like doing ghost notes on the kick and i hate it, its ruining all my recordings. i adjusted the tension, the beater hight and board position but nothing seems to do the trick. i've been playing on my kit kinda focused on avoiding the rebounds but as soon as i relax and try to flow i start getting them again. how do you deal with this? what is your recomended setup?
@ericproctordrums
@ericproctordrums 3 ай бұрын
Rebound like an extra bounce? I would focus on keeping the foot relaxed and “dead weight” after hitting the kick. The weight of your foot will hold down the pedal but let it recoil. It also might be a tension thing on your hardware
@LuminorBeats
@LuminorBeats 3 ай бұрын
@@ericproctordrums exactly, an extra bounce, i get the main hit but the rebound makes another one. if i focus on it i can control it, but as soon as i start not paying attention it starts making the rebound again. i've been told maybe the air cant come out when i hit it, should i make a bigger hole on the resonant head? maybe getting a lighter beater?

Yes, an e-kit can feel real. Not all do, but the good ones feel 99.9% like an acustic kit. The Zildjian e-kit may have slightly better feeling cymbals, but they are accusticly lowder than the cymbals on my e-kit, and my cymbals feel more like real metal cymbals than most. .
