Did Zildjian solve the biggest problem with electronic drums? // Zildjian ALCHEM-E

The mad scientists over at Zildjian have something pretty cool happening here with the ALCHEM-E drum kit. It is insanely real feeling. The cymbals feel like real cymbals... but they are electronic. It is wild! The sound samples do need some love, but this is gen 1 of a technology that is going to be so freakin sick down the road. The fact that the cymbals are so intuitive and feel so damn real is amazing.

Cymbals sound great. Those drums sound like a toy casio though.

Technically the biggest problem with edrums is the hi-hat articulation. If the hi-hats have the dynamics of an acoustic that is a bigger win.

I play Roland V-drums (acoustic design) for my church, and this definitely makes me want to check out the Zildjian cymbals to see how I like them (if they are even compatible).

Yeah I was wondering that myself… if they would be able to be used for other kits. I don’t think so right now but imagine they’ll do that sometime idk

Look for a used Zildjian Gen 16 cymbal system(2nd generation). It was Zildjian’s first attempt at this type of setup around 10 years ago. Low volume cymbals with a signal processor. Look for videos of churches using them with e-drums. It failed because people wanted to use them as triggers, but they weren’t supposed to be triggers. I think they just decided to go all the way and pair them with drums. The L-80’s were a byproduct of that setup.

Yes, an e-kit can feel real. Not all do, but the good ones feel 99.9% like an acustic kit. The Zildjian e-kit may have slightly better feeling cymbals, but they are accusticly lowder than the cymbals on my e-kit, and my cymbals feel more like real metal cymbals than most. .

Amazing cymbals sound and feeling. The rest of the drums looks really cool but sounds awful. Like, I think that my old TD9 sounded way better. They will sell a lot of brains with cymbals packs, but not for the drum sounds.

Zildjian Alchem-e cymbals combine with efnote , that would be perfect

You do know actual acoustic cymbals have been used with edrums for a while now. Zildijin is trying to pretend like they are the first ones. 😴 on the other hand I feel like many people feel the way you do because they’ve only tried the tiny beginner edrum kits in guitar center that aren’t even programmed correctly. 🙄🤧 take a look into the high end edrum kits. I think you may be extremely surprised.

Awesome! Which kit would you recommend that has cymbals that feel like cymbals. Anything I’ve tried does not. All the Roland kits and alesis kits as far as I know have pads for the cymbals. Let me know!!

@@ericproctordrums you’ve got to buy the cymbals separately. Jobecky Drums, Field Drums, and Drum Tec makes them just to name a few.

All of those brands - Jobeky, field, etc - look similar, but the cymbals don't actually vibrate. I've owned and played Jobeky and Zeitgeist (drumtec's brand) and while they look cool, they basically feel like you're hitting a car hood. The Zildjians actually vibrate freely and decay like a real cymbal. It's wild, they feel amazing to play and are completely different from the current metal e-cymbals from any other manufacturer.

Short answer, NO!!!!! The weakest part in any e-kit is the hi hat and yet you totally skipped that!

Fair! Hi hats felt really good in this. I totally agree with you. But I was digging this hats. I play a lot of rudiments and such on my hats and e drums make that difficult. These were super responsive with diddles and felt great in the hands

@@ericproctordrums I brought some L80's to try on my Roland kit and really enjoyed them. So now waiting for the module/cymbal combo But only if the splash and china are released.
