This is all well and good when tied on a table at home, but not so easy when you are on the bank with the wind howling into your face. I do a simple 6 wrap surgeons knot, where you thread all the leader through the loop 6 times, it's super easy and pretty strong too

I've tied this not many a time with frozen hands at night while it's blowing a gale on the beach. A surgeons knot is good when you are using light line on a river or lake... Not so much when you are fishing from a beach with 15lb mainline and 60-70lb leader 😉

You can't tie that knot if the end you run through the eye, runs back up and down through the eye's of your rod and spooled up on your reel.

Your not supposed to be able to. You tie the hooks to a separate rig and then attach the rig to your line

If you are using nylon to nylon and pull really hard the overhand knot in the leader will pull, pigtail and weaken. Much safer to use the Albright Knot.

*Thankfully, I don't go through leaders very quickly. In this case, it meant that my Bozeman Flyworks leaders sat in the leader wallet for a while, before I put one on. Very impressed **allabout.wiki/lxtl** Butt section was wrapped quite a few times in the coil, so it took some straightening out, but the mid-body and tippet were strong yet supple, with very good roll-over in the loops. Might consider phasing these in as more than just my 9' 5x option.*

This seems a common knot but my two concerns are if you cut the tails to short the initial knot in the shock wire could come undone and pull through. Or if you leave a mm or two on the tails wouldnt this snag on the rod rings as you cast it... Only tried these on the bench. Never used them fishing yet as i normaly use 30lb straight through.
@andreablessing8927
@andreablessing8927 5 жыл бұрын
Tried this and my small line kept pulling through, using 15lb main line and 40lb shockleader. I tried it on 2 different colour paracord and works. Might be cutting the tails too short
@TheFishingAddicts
@TheFishingAddicts 5 жыл бұрын
Make sure everything is pulled tight before cutting anything. Once it's all secure and tight then you can trim but leave a mm or two

Hello Fella cannot believe it's been 5 years since I left a message something like 562 anyway been perfecting my feathers and I've found that if you keep them close together and shorter they work really well plus I've also been using chrome rainbow ribbon and that nails them too short strokes up n down to to much and bang catch every time still using your method to tie so thanks a lot and tight lines my friend

Found this really useful. Instead of throwing away bundles of old feather rigs and buying new everytime, I'm going to recycle them using your vid. Thanks for putting it up.
