Okay, so, as promised, I will share my personal ranking of songs featured in both videos. The only songs I wasn’t familiar with were Superstitious and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, so I won’t include those. 1. Viva la Vida (super special song, always gives me goosebumps when I hear it) 2. The Best 3. Dancing in the Moonlight 4. Uptown Funk 5. Crazy 6. Ho Hey (even though it’s 6th, I still like this song a lot. All these songs are great!) If you ask me which song I think Dav did the best job with, I would probably pick The Best because it was cool to hear him hit such high notes, and he did great. But I think he did a good job with all of these songs. Anyway, I’m curious to know how you would rank these songs!

Aww, I got a mention! ☺ Yeah, I would have loved to see this performance live. But hey, maybe he'll do great at Eurovision next year, and then come to Latvia for a concert, haha. Anyway, it’s great to finally see the full performance! I think I’ll listen to this version from time to time instead of the music video (which, by the way, I still play sometimes).

This time, I recognized slightly fewer songs than in your last video (20 songs): 30. Cara Mia, 29. Õde Ütles, 27. Ataust Rīts, 26. Is It Love, 24. Rodeo, 22. Mriynyky, 17. Pazza Musica, 16. Ruoska, 15. Bad Bitch, 14. Forever, 13. Supposed To Be, 10. Pretty Devil, 9. Me, Myself & I, 8. Razom, 7. Glitch, 6. Thinking About You, 5. You Take My Breath Away, 4. I Can’t Stop, 3. Already Know, 1. Bulletproof. Out of these, my top 5 are very clear: 1. Is It Love, 2. Bad Bitch, 3. Forever, 4. Pazza Musica, 5. Me, Myself & I. I’m so glad all these songs made your top 30 because, obviously, these are songs that I love A LOT! I did not expect Bad Bitch to be that high for you (15th). I thought you said you liked it, but not too much. And of course, I am thrilled that both of Loreen’s new songs are here, with Forever in a very decent position. I had a feeling you might prefer Forever over Is It Love, as it’s more upbeat. Speaking of Supposed To Be, Alessandra’s new song, which we have not talked about yet, I like it, but not nearly as much as Bad Bitch. So far, I haven't listened to it too much, but maybe it will click with me more during the rest of the summer. Just like last time, I listened to all 10 songs that I did not know, and the ones I liked the most are: 4. Alle Farben & Lewis Thompson - Love Hurt Repeat feat. Mae Muller, 3. Aiko ft. Teya - Hunger, 2. Blanka - If U Want Me, 1. TVORCHI - Shine. Even though I also like Shine a lot, I am a little surprised it’s your second favourite, just because it was released only three weeks ago, surpassing some other songs you really love. But I guess you love this song that much, and I am pretty sure it will be in your 10 favourite songs of the year. At first, I was shocked to see Thinking About You being just 6th, but then I remembered it didn’t even make the top 10 in your top songs of 2023 video, and you mentioned that part of the reason you played this song so much was because you love the music video. I had a good feeling that Bulletproof would be your first! After all, this is the first time you’ve made two such videos for one year (2023), and it’s no secret that The Busker was your biggest motivation to do that!

I am sure there have never been THAT many songs that I already knew from your “Top 30 Other Songs by ESC Artists” videos. This makes total sense as we have gotten so close over the last year and discussed so many songs. Anyway, here is the list of 22 songs that were already familiar to me: 30: White Flags, 29: Night Out, 26: No Boys Allowed, 25: 2000 and Whatever, 23: Hocus Pocus, 22: Don’t Hate Yourself But Don’t Love Yourself Too Much, 20: Ofelija, 18: Love Flow, 17: Mustii - Blind, 16: Would I Lie, 15: 247365, 14: Stripping Feelings, 11: Ig Boi, 10: Die for You, 09: Lose, 08: Disco Dancer, 07: Gimme Your Love, 06: Meteorite, 05: Never Ever, 03: Follow Me, 02: King, and of course, 01: Air. Out of these songs, my favourite ones are all your top 3 songs, “Meteorite”, “2000 and Whatever”, as well as Mustii’s “Blind”. I found out about that song somewhere at the start of this year, but I never started listening to it as it was the peak of national selections, so there were many other songs I wanted to listen to. So, it’s good you reminded me of this song. We will see if it makes my summer recap. My 7th to 10th place songs would be “Night Out”, “Stripping Feelings”, “Gimme Your Love”, and “Never Ever”. I had totally forgotten about “King” when we were talking about where “Follow Me” could be in your top. Otherwise, I would not have been so sure about “Follow Me” being your first or second place (since you reminded me about “Air”). “King” has always been a very popular song in Latvia, and I have always loved it. I am pretty sure it might be Olly’s most popular song. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that “2000 and Whatever” made your top! When we talked about this song, I had a feeling you didn’t like it, but it seems that you do like it, though you just don’t love it and prefer “One Milkali” way more. Was not surprised to see both Sarah’s songs in your top 10. As for the songs I did not know, I checked out all of them. I can tell you right away that the songs I liked the most are Olly’s “Shine” (what a shame I did not know about this song; I really enjoyed this one), Kaleen’s “Love Myself” (not sure I would listen to it on repeat, but I like the mood of this song, and I can see myself playing it when in a certain mood), and Olly’s “Desire” (I can’t say for 100% that I have not heard this song before. Maybe I have, but I am not sure). Anyway, all these three songs have the potential to appear in my top 50 Songs of 2024 video. We will see if any of them stick with me for a longer time. As for the rest of the songs, they were all good as well. In 4th place, I would probably put Kaleen’s “Don’t Wanna Leave You Now.”

You know, it's really cool that an artist I am so familiar with was at Eurovision this year. I know several Years & Years songs from years ago (and I'm guessing a lot of you do too). When Olly was announced as the UK's representative, I knew I'd be featuring a lot of Y&Y songs in this video all those months ago. Also, it's really cool that Marcus & Martinus, who have my fave national final eliminated song ever with Air, won Melfest this year since I already knew a lot of their music. It's not too often that artists I already love prior to Eurovision actually make it to the contest, after all (Alexander Rybak, Uku Suviste, and Stefan are the other 3).

I also like most of these entries, and I think this is one of those very rare years when I don’t feel like there are any bad songs. Maybe some are not to my taste or not that strong, but all are pretty decent, so that’s one of the best things about this year’s ESC. 11: Moldova - You know, I think this was quite pretty actually. It’s not that Moldova has grown on me a lot, but in comparison with the national selection, this staging felt improved, and I do enjoy this song more than ever now. So, this will be a few places up for me. 10: Poland - Poor Luna. They put so much effort, but still, it wasn’t enough to qualify. Like we have already discussed, they tried too hard. I know you have never been a fan of this song, but I used to like it a lot, but now my interest in this song is lost. I think I have played the ESC performance once or twice only. 09: San Marino - Wow, did not expect such a downgrade for San Marino in your top! Based on what I have seen, all the fans of this song were very impressed by the Eurovision performance, not even mentioning all the predictions that they could be a shock qualifier. So, what was the problem for you? 08: Belgium - It wasn’t the best performance, but still, with how strong the song is, I am very disappointed Mustii didn’t qualify. Reminds me of the 2018 situation, but that song (A Matter of Time) I loved even more. I must admit, though, that similarly to Poland, Mustii’s has also been growing off me. 07: Czechia - I totally expected this would be your biggest grower, and it’s totally deserved! It was a huge improvement after that NF. Still, I don’t feel like I necessarily needed this song in the final, but she would have been a deserved qualifier if she made it through. Btw, did you see the rumours about Czechia withdrawing? WTF? Hopefully, it’s not going to be the case. The final decision is expected to be made in August. 06: Albania - Well, I am sure I don’t have to comment on anything here haha. Didn’t expect either a lower or higher place from you. 05: Iceland - Glad to see you still like this song quite a bit! People have been so rude towards this song for the whole season. Such a shame she didn’t escape that last place to prove them all wrong. I hoped the more elderly audience would save her a little bit. But you know, I must admit I liked the NF performance more. I miss those starting bits, and also the outfit and hairstyle were better there. 04: Denmark - Again, it feels like I liked the NF performance more. To me, the song was one of the best ones they have ever sent to Eurovision. 03: Azerbaijan - Well, as you know, I ended up not being a huge fan of this staging concept. Azerbaijan is not in my top 10 anymore, btw. A concept similar to a showcase performance, despite its simplicity, would have worked so much better for me. But still, it’s a great song, and it used to be one of my most listened-to songs for a certain period of time. 02: Australia - Feeling so bad for Electric Fields as they are such huge ESC fans themselves. They deserved to qualify. I know you don’t agree, but I think their 2019 entry is one of the best NF songs ever. I do feel that song would have qualified (not because I liked it that much, but, knowing Eurovision, I think it would have done better since it was more out of the box). Btw, fun fact- they said that they wrote One Milkali the same year they wrote 2000 and Whatever. 01: Malta - Yeah, it’s so hard to see such a polished performance in this kind of video. She has been improving so much since that first audition so many months ago already. It indeed was a bloodbath semi, but still…I remember she once said in her stories that the most important thing for her is to give her best performance, so at least in that sense there is nothing she should regret.

I remember you already did such a video a few years ago. Back then, I shared my opinion on most of these songs, but I had not heard songs from 2000-2007. This time, I checked them out so that I can share my thoughts and say which one I prefer - the original winner or yours. That’s why I did not comment earlier; I knew I had to check out these songs first. Sorry for that. 2000: Russia - Looks quite modern for 2000 (I mean, the outfit and dancers…). I did not know she finished 2nd that year. The song is okay. I prefer the original winner. I think I already told you once that Fly On The Wings Of Love is one of my favourite songs from “old Eurovision” times. 2001: Slovenia - Not something I would listen to, but it’s fine. Considering that I have never been a huge fan of the original winner, I think I might prefer your winner. 2002: Cyprus - Yeah, this definitely feels like a song you would love. I like it too; the chorus is quite nice, and the singers are charismatic. So far, the best one for sure. Though, once again, I prefer the original winner, I Wanna. 2003: Turkey - Too bad Turkey is not going to come back to Eurovision. I would love to see something like this again (but more modern to fit today’s Eurovision, of course). 2004: Belgium - This is a really good one! Would not have guessed it’s from Belgium since it feels like something that a Balkan or Eastern European country would send. Also, I am surprised it finished that low (sure, I have not seen the rest of the songs, and maybe that year was very competitive, but still). Anyway, this song stuck in my head right away, so I am going to say I prefer this one over Wild Dances (btw, I have never been a huge fan of that one). 2005: Switzerland - It’s good, but not to my taste. My Number One, on the other hand, is one of my all-time favourite winners. 2006: Romania - Not a fan of what they are wearing, but the song is good, especially the chorus. I prefer your winner! 2007: Belarus - I can’t say I love this, but Molitva is one of my all-time least favourite ESC winners, and I do not get that song, so I pick your winner. Very good staging. The song is okay too, just not catchy enough for me. Here is how I would rank your winners from 2000-2007: 8- Slovenia 2001 7- Russia 2000 6- Switzerland 2005 5- Belarus 2007 4- Romania 2006 3- Cyprus 2002 2- Belgium 2004 1- Turkey 2003 I see nothing has changed for the rest since last time, except that there are three more songs now - Hope, Dance, and Unforgettable - which couldn’t be more obvious for such a long-time follower and friend of yours like me 😁 Btw, seeing Moldova 2011 reminded me how the Eurovision official channel quite recently published that 10-hour video of saxophone playing, which I found so funny as there already was such a video on KZbin (I do know about it, because you mentioned it yourself in the previous top of your winners). So that makes me wonder if whoever runs the Eurovision channel was out of ideas or if it was really their original idea, haha.

If I didn't know how extremely busy you are lately, I would have thought that you don't enjoy this year's contest, or even worse - that you have gotten tired of Eurovision. 36: Ireland - Not at all surprised to see this as your last place, but I remember that when Ramonda won, you said that it's your new last place, so I guess either Serbia has grown on you, or it's Ireland's music video's fault because you told me you found the song even more annoying after watching the music video. You didn't say anything about how you feel about Ireland's first rehearsal, but maybe after seeing the song live on the Eurovision stage, it might grow on you a little bit. 31: Portugal - I was sure this would be in your bottom 3. I guess you like the song a little bit more than I do. 22: Albania - Glad to see that Albania has grown on you after the revamp! 22nd place is better than I was expecting. I remember you used to have Norway and Luxembourg, for example, higher before the revamp. 20: Greece - Yeah, I figured this would be somewhere around 20th place. I think you said it was your 14th originally. But have you ever re-listened to the song? Personally, I never did, so that's the reason why I dropped it to 31st place in my latest update. But I have a good feeling the song will grow on me after finally seeing it live, so I think at the end it might make my top 20 as well. 19: Iceland - Always happy to see this higher than 37th or 36th in people's tops! And I knew I could rely on you on that. 15: Austria - Okay, so this was one of the countries I was most curious about as I don't think you ever have shared a top with me where Austria was included. My guess was 12th place, so pretty close. I know you are not obsessed with this song, but that you still like it quite a bit. My guess is that it will grow on you after seeing it live in Eurovision. Their staging looks very cool, and songs like this always work better live. 14: Italy - Correct me if I am wrong, but it feels like Italy has grown on you quite a bit over time. Do you think you gave it an edge because it's such a big fan favourite? I am curious to see their staging package. In Sanremo, it wasn't anything special, but if they can do something really cool and combined with traditional flavour, I can see them growing on me as well. 13: Azerbaijan - Yesss! This song is so underrated! I knew this would not make your top 10, but glad it's very close. 10: Australia - My prediction was that this would be in your top 5, considering that when it came out, you said it's in your top 3, and also it did quite well in your listening stats. So, has the song grown off you? 9: Malta - Thought this would be just a little tiny bit higher. Hopefully, they do have a chance to qualify because she has been improving all the time. Remember that very first audition performance? Who would have thought we would end up with something that cool, as we can see in the rehearsal photos after all! Also, it's cool to see the fandom finally standing by her. I have seen so much love towards Malta recently. Many people really want her to qualify. 6: Switzerland - Was quite curious for this one, as I had a pretty wide range where I could see you ranking The Code (my guess was somewhere between 12th and 5th place). Glad it's closer to the better half. Really hope this song does well with the televote because even in our fandom, many are criticizing their outfit, which makes me even more worried about how the locals gonna look at it. Here in Latvia, even Dons' new outfit for some folks is too much. Wtf? I have no words. 5: Cyprus - This song is so underrated! I must admit, it has grown off me a little bit, but I am pretty sure the live performance will renew my interest. She has to qualify. Locals gonna like it. Too many ESC fans are trying to convince that this will flop and not qualify. I don't believe such a scenario (in semi 2 it would be possible, but not in semi 1). 4: Georgia - So, this is the song we agree on the most this year! Her rehearsal looked amazing. I am so excited to see this live, and I have been playing the song a lot recently. Your top 3 is exactly like I thought it would be! And it makes perfect sense since I know your music taste very well. If I had to guess your top this year without knowing anything, I am sure I would have predicted all these 3 songs to be if not in your top 3, then in top 5 definitely. Like you know, even though Croatia is not one of my biggest faves this year, but just like you, I will be rooting for them to win along with Switzerland!

Great list, as always! I was wondering when you'll upload your ranking... So yeah, it's a great list. Glad to know Australia isn't only my guilty pleasure... Your top 5 is good, 4/5 of your top 5 songs are in my top 15. I feel like this year is just so strong it's hard to rank these songs! The one thing I disagree with, is my winner (aka Belgium) being 24th. I really want to know your reasoning for this. About your "unpopular opinions", I found myself agreeing with most of them!
@ESCSteph
@ESCSteph 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful comment, as always. Regarding Belgium being 24th: Well, this isn't really the kind of song I listen to as I'm sure you've noticed from my favorite songs in other videos. Also, the ending where he repeats the same line, what, I think 8 times? (Maybe more?) It honestly kind of annoys me so I don't really love listening to the song. So, that's why I couldn't rank the song any higher.
@unknownredditor
@unknownredditor 5 ай бұрын
@@ESCStephI did notice that as you mentioned it, I usually listen to the same kind of eurovision songs as well... I kinda get why you think the repetition is annoying, because this is the main reasoning why Greece is low on my list (unpopular opinion of mine). However, I think the choir makes a huge difference, as it sounds more epic to me and less annoying. But this is literally the only thing I disagreed with in this entire video. Especially placing Spain, Australia, Germany and more relatively high. This isn't a thing I see often on other people's rankings, so great taste!
@ESCSteph

@unknownredditor I think I'd be ok with the repetitiveness if there wasn't so much of it at the end. And I agree that Greece is repetitive too but why I like it a little more than Belgium is because it does have a cool ethnic sound. Thanks again for commenting and I'm glad you also have a lot of similar unpopular opinions. It's always nice to not feel alone!

So, I know this is being released after rehearsals have started. This ranking does not take any of that into consideration. I wanted to get this video out sooner but I've been extremely busy. Also, why I didn't include Israel - I thought a lot about it and decided that since they had to submit about 5 revisions of their song before the EBU would accept it, it never sat well with me and I can't even fairly judge the song. If you disagree with my choice not to include them, fine, but keep your comments civil or I will delete them.

I agree with you; this is a really good selection and not particularly weaker than other editions in the past. Just like you, I like most of the songs. In fact, I don't dislike any of them. 12: Back To My Roots - Yeah, I was pretty sure this would be your last. It's a good song, though. In most other national selections, I would not have this last, but this is Melodifestivalen. 11: Awful Liar - I wasn't sure this would be pre-last (my prediction was anywhere between 11th and 9th place). Not my favourite song from Lisa, but still quite good. 10: Light - For this one, I had the same prediction as for Awful Liar. As you know, this song grew on me a lot after hearing the full version and seeing the live performance. Everything just worked so well for me, and I find the chorus to be super strong and catchy. 09: Give My Heart A Break - So, 9th place was the highest possible one I predicted for you. I guess you like it more than me. 08: It's Not Easy To Write A Love Song - I had no expectations to see this ranked anywhere near your top 5, so actually I am glad it's 8th and not 10th (I wouldn't have been too surprised if that was the case). 07: Dragon - 7th place is the exact placement I was thinking is the most likely for you (but if I didn't know you are not a fan of this song, I would have thought that this would be in the top 5 for sure). But again, it kind of leans more towards a pop ballad, and I know how rare it is for you to love this kind of songs, so yeah. 06: Que Sera - Even though I would not want this to happen, but when I think about what a great entry from a host country would be, this one seems to be perfect for that case. Plus, people would not complain that Sweden keeps sending the same songs every year. I knew this would be almost in your top 5. 05: Heroes Are Calling - Wow, I must admit, I am surprised this is not in your top 3! Do you, just like some others, also think that it's too similar to their last year's song, but not as good, and that's why it doesn't grab you more? Personally, I don't agree the song is worse, but the staging felt stronger last year. 04: Effortless - Yay, my prediction was right for this one! I don't know, to me out of all pop-girlies in this ESC season, this one is the strongest song (if I have to compare this with Austria, I would give the edge to Effortless). So if Sweden surprisingly chooses her, Sweden will be my new winner. But of course, I don't know how Austria gonna be live, so it might be that I would change my mind eventually. I am always more confident about the songs that I have seen live than those that I haven't, so therefore Effortless has an advantage. 03: When I Am Gone - I guess the thing that is even more surprising than Heroes Are Calling not making your top 3 is Maria Sur taking that spot! Did this song grow on you a lot too? I am pretty sure you would not rank this song that high a week or two ago (when I published my NF season top). Anyways, I am very glad it has grown on you as I think this is a bop! 02: Happy That You Found Me - I saw on Insta his new outfit, and I loved it! Perhaps the song might even grow on me because of that (provided he has also some other improvements). I had no doubts this would be in your top 2. 01: Unforgettable - Surprisingly, when clicking to this video, I wasn't 100% I would see this song first. I was like 70:30 (70% for M&M and 30% Danny). The main reason is that you told me that this year's song is your favourite from Danny and that I know you prefer Air over Unforgettable. I am super curious to see where you gonna rank it in your ESC top once it wins (well, it's pretty obvious). My prediction is that Croatia will still be your winner, and so I predict that Unforgettable will be either 2nd or 3rd (I am not completely sure it's gonna beat Lithuania neither).

I also don't dislike any of these songs, so I consider that to be a victory in itself. Melfest really does prove to be the best NF year after year. I also wouldn't have Back to My Roots last in finals for other NFs. But, like you said, it's Melfest. Yeah, I guess I like Give My Heart a Break a little more than you do, but I am still not crazy about it. I wouldn't really listen to it a bunch of times. Since you thought It's Not Easy to Write a Love Song could be as low as 10th, what songs did you think I'd like more than it? I know I had told you I do like the song, but Bulletproof and Little Tot are way stronger for me (but those are brilliant songs). Though it's not my preferred genre of music, it's still a really good song. I wouldn't say that I'm not a fan of Dragon - it's just not nearly as good as Bluffin and not something I'm going to listen to over and over again, but I do like it. Basically, I feel very similarly to it as I do to INEtWaLS so they could flip flop in my top when I'm deciding on my top 40 eliminated NF songs. I like Heroes are Calling a lot (it's currently 15th in my NF songs top 40), but yeah I guess it's a little too much like Six Feet Under but the staging is, as you said, not as strong. Btw, my mom told me that she likes it more than Six Feet Under when we were watching the final. I was a little surprised that Sweden would've been your winner even if Effortless was chosen, just because it was your 3rd place. Goes to show how strong Melfest is. Had they chosen this song, it would've been 3rd in my top, I think. Maybe 4th. I liked When I'm Gone right away, but I had only seen it the one time when you made your top 25 video, so I didn't have a strong feeling about it. After playing all the songs a few times after they were all released last week, I enjoyed everything about this performance very much. I don't like it much more than Effortless, so it would've been 3rd or 4th in my ESC top. Yes, I loved Danny's outfit! Great decision there. My mom also approved of it. So, did this grow on you at all? I liked his performance so much in the final. Had it won, I am not sure if it would've been 2nd or 3rd in my top, though. I know you said it was obvious that Unforgettable would win, but I was still so nervous. I'm just happy they were a convincing winner, not like Sweden wanted someone else and they only won because of the jury. Regarding Happy That I Found You being my fave from Danny, and still preferring Air to Unforgettable but Unforgettable ended up being my winner, well, my previous fave from Danny was his 2012 entry (which was in the 20's of my Melfest top 50 songs from 2010-2023 video - and this song would be higher than that). I do also love his song with EDM, Baby Goodbye (which would be my real fave from Danny if you include that), but I still think this song is stronger than that as Baby Goodbye has grown off me a little bit in the last few years. And, remember, Air is my fave Melfest song ever and if not for Dance (Our Own Party) existing, it'd be my fave Eurovision song (if NF songs are included) and Unforgettable isn't in that category (and I don't think it ever will be). I'll save where I have it in my ESC top for your top 33 video.

Thanks for commenting! As for adding comments, doing that takes forever because I think a lot about what I want to say and then I have to type them up and make them look nice and I'm barely finding time to make videos as it is. That's why I only do those types of videos for the ESC tops after Eurovision ends. I will be releasing my ESC 2024 top after we have all the songs.

Sorry for commenting this late. This week was pretty crazy at university, and today is the first calmer day for me. Tomorrow is free, so I finally have more time to cover this video and listen to the songs I didn't know. I must say, I didn't expect so many new songs, especially in relatively high positions, considering you've been sharing your stats with me for months. I did realize some of those songs are very new, though. So, I'll comment on the songs I didn't know and those whose rankings surprised me. 55- Dara - Zaminavam - What a bop! I'm sure I would be rooting for this song if Bulgaria sent it to Eurovision (since she is Bulgarian). I suppose you found it thanks to some Eurovision-related video, right? 52- Paola & Chiara - Solo Mai - Pretty nice one. Not nearly as good as Furore for me, but I wouldn't hate seeing this in SanRemo, and perhaps it would grow on me. 50- Kuuma - Ylivoimainen - Has this grown off you? I remember you used to feel very strongly about this one. 49- Aidan & Ira Losco - RIP - So, I know this one, but I'm not sure I've shared my opinion on it. To be honest, I was quite disappointed since it's Ira, and you know how much I love her ESC entry, and obviously, I like Aidan as well. That chorus doesn't work for me at all. I must admit, I'm surprised you have this higher than Unicorn, for example. 46, 43, 41: Queen of Kings, Pretty Devil, Me, Myself & I - I was hoping to see these ones much higher, especially Mae’s song since it did so well in your summer stats. 40- Adonxs - No Common Measure - I remember you told me you might include it here, and I'm so happy you did, since I love this so much! I am very pleased to see this even in your 40th place! Did not expect it could go that high for you in such a relatively short time over the songs you've known for months. 38- DARA - In My Head - Good song and visuals. Maybe a little too mainstream for my taste, though. 36- Tvorchi - Razom - This is not bad either. Again, maybe a little too mainstream for my taste, and I definitely prefer their ESC entry and I Can't Stop, but it's good. 35- NYSNC - Better Place - Yeah, this definitely sounds like a song you would enjoy. I like the chorus. 34- Nare - OOPS - Wow, I did not even know this song existed, so thanks for the opportunity to get to know it. I loved the visuals, but I must admit, the song did not grab me much. But I see so much potential for her to become a pop star and represent Armenia in Eurovision one day. I definitely see growth since her JESC appearance in terms of confidence. 29- Melovin - Odyn Ne Odyn - This one is not totally new to me, since before his Vidbir song was released, I was curious to check out what kind of music he does recently. I remember not being too impressed, honestly, so I was hoping his song for Vidbir would be totally different, and it was. Dreamer is my favourite song from him I have heard so far. 20- Andrei Ursu - Hai, Inima! - At first, I was like, "Who is that?" And then I realized -"wait, that’s WRS" 😅 Well, I know how much you love 80's vibes, so I'm not surprised at all you like this that much. 16- Inna x The Victor - Dance Alone - I like this a lot, however, I think I prefer The Victor’s parts more than Inna’s, and they kind of make this song so good for me. At the start of the song when only Inna was singing, I was not that impressed. 15- The Busker - Thinking About You - Wow!! Probably my biggest surprise. I would not have believed it if someone told me this is not going to be in your top 5. But why? I know you said it’s not that great when you heard the audio version for the very first time, but I was sure the music video elevated it for you enough, and you listened to it SO much after all 🤔 14- Robin Packalen - Girls Like You - Well, this was more expected, but still, back in spring 2023, I would not have thought of the possibility of this one not making your top 5. 11- Sarah Bonici - Never Ever - I know you liked this since you shared it with me, but I never expected you would ever prefer it over Thinking About You and Carpe Diem. Wow! 10- Minelli - No Tears - Good song, but honestly, I would never have imagined you would enjoy something like this that much. I guess something just really clicked for you with this one. 02- Air - Marcus & Martinus - Air - If this was out of your top 5 as well somehow, I would probably have asked you, "Are you okay?" 😁 I hope you will love this year’s song even more, and that it will finally make you more excited about this year’s season. Since they were working with the same songwriters, I can’t see something going wrong. 01- The Busker - Dance - Hmm, it would be interesting to count for once how many times you already had Dance in your first place haha. I am glad you listened to your heart and chose the song that is the most special for you as your favourite one. I remember relatively recently you still were thinking of putting Air first in this top. So, whose absence surprised me? Definitely Can’t Say No! Was it at least close to making it here?

I'm so glad you liked Zaminavam! I had a feeling you weren't as interested in In My Head so I wasn't sure if you'd like this one either tbh. Ylivoimainen hasn't grown off me. This was 12th place (I think) in my top 40 Eliminated 2023 NF Songs video, so if I were to update that video, it'd be higher now (like 6th place). I'm surprised you didn't comment on it making the video while Too Good for Your Love, No Business on the Dancefloor, and Hoida Mut didn't. (I guess you didn't remember that I loved those songs so much.) So, RIP is an interesting song for me. I listened to it once when I was playing all of Aidan's songs, and also didn't care for it. I also found that the chorus wasn't that exceptional. However, several months later, I decided to play it again and for whatever reason, I liked it a lot more. However, I'm not sure it's got real staying power, since I decided to play it again in like, November and I'm not sure I'll still like it a lot in 6 months. Pretty Devil and Me, Myself & I unfortunately ended up too overplayed by me and whenever I'd listen to them in this playlist in December, the less I wanted to. Maybe after giving them a break, I'll feel differently about them. As for Queen of Kings, it's actually up to 4th place of ESC songs (from 6th, which is where it was in my top 37 after the show). I knew you'd be happy seeing No Common Measure in my top 40. It's such a bop! I'm glad you liked the chorus for NSYNC's song - I know you're not much of a boy band fan so I wasn't sure you'd care for it at all. I'm glad I could help you discover Nare's new song, but I'm a little sad you didn't care for it. I had hopes you'd really like it, too. But yeah, I definitely see potential for her to represent Armenia at adult ESC someday (hopefully Malena will also get that experience). Aw, I hoped you'd like Odyn ne odyn too. I instantly really liked it, so I wonder what it was lacking for you. I do think it wouldn't have worked at Vidbir so I'm glad he ended up going with such a different song, though. Agree with you on Dance Alone - The Victor's parts are way stronger than Inna's. Ok. So. Why is Thinking About You only 15th? Well, when it was audio only, I had it around where Kuba's song was (lower, even). Once the music video came out, I moved it up about 20 spots (so it was in the 20s for the longest time). Every time I moved songs around the playlist, I moved it up, but in the end, I didn't really know where to rank it. Sure, I love the music video. It's hilarious but tbh, I play it so much because well, I just love the music video. Do I like the song a lot? Yes, of course (or it wouldn't even be 15th - like, Miracle wouldn't be 15th in this ranking), especially after seeing it live, but I didn't know if I could rank it higher than Carpe Diem or Girls Like You, for example. I discovered Sarah's song so late in the year and instantly loved it (it's exactly the kind of music I listen to, after all), but does it have the staying power of some of the other highly ranked songs? Hard to say. Guess you'll find out when I do my top 75 other songs by ESC artists released in 2023 video series. No Tears might be the same as Never Ever, honestly. I just instantly loved it, but it's hard to say if it's got staying power. Oh, there was a zero percent change of Air being lower than 2nd place lol. So yes, if it had been out of my top 5 that would definitely have been my cry for help. I do not expect to love their new song more than Air (wow, that'd be pretty insane if I do - and if I do and they still lose Melfest, I'm going to be beyond gutted) but I hope it's amazing. Well, once I saw Dance (Our Own Party) live and then met the guys, I knew there was no chance for any other song being 1st in this video. So, I knew they'd be 1st since September 15th. Idk, is that really recent? I thought I had conveyed that to you that there was no chance of any other song being 1st place in this video after meeting them. As for all the times it's been 1st place, let's see: My top 37 after the show, My top 40 NQs, My top 11 NQs of ESC 2023, this video of course, My top 10 35th places, technically when Dav was featured as the most handsome ESC 2023 guy and ESC guy from 2010-2023, My top 20 most played of summer, and My top 50 most played of 2023. Will it be 1st place in other videos? Well, yes, actually, but I guess you'll have to wait for those. Can't Say No is from 2021 which is why it didn't make this video. Remember, it was the intro song of my top 75 other songs of ESC artists in 2022 video series? Had it been from 2023, it would've been 6th.

@@ESCSteph Couldn't it be that you had already told me that Ylivoimainen ended up being your second/third place at UMK after all? I do recall you feeling very strongly about this song, which is why I wasn't too surprised by No Business on the Dancefloor and Hoida Mut not making it here. But I do remember how much you liked both of those songs, of course. I see. I also listened to RIP again because of your video, but unfortunately, it didn't feel any better to me than one the first listen several months ago. Oh, I'm glad Queen of Kings has moved up to 4th place for you! Hmm, I don’t think Odyn ne odyn is lacking anything; it's just not my kind of song. Thanks for explaining why Thinking About You is where it is. I was indeed very surprised. I did not know it was originally rated that low by you (based on the audio version). Yeah, I get it. Like I told you in my top 50 songs of 2023 video, it's always difficult with those new releases since it's hard to predict whether they will have staying power, which is very important to me personally when I do my rankings. I might like a song on the first listen, but if I don't listen to it in the long term, it has much less value in my eyes than a song that perhaps didn't feel that good on the first listen, but then grew on me and stuck with me for quite some time. Okay, yeah, you told me after the meeting with the guys that Dance is going to be your number 1 song of this year, so it's not that recent. But before that, you had been doubting, while I personally was sure already in April/May that Dance must be your first, because I had never seen you so invested in an ESC song and its performers. I remember you were still doubting in the summer. So, a total of 9 videos (including the hottest guys ones). That's quite a bit! I'm curious about what other videos they're going to be first (the one that comes to mind is your all-time favourite ESC songs video, but I'm not sure what else could be). Oh, sorry, I forgot for a moment that this video is about the songs released this year when I asked about Can't Say No. You know I include all the songs discovered this year, no matter when they were actually released.

To anyone who has not come across one of these videos of mine before, this is my ranking of my favorite songs that came out last year (unless they are part of Eurovision national finals that debuted near the end of 2022 so they're more associated with 2023). And, obviously, since I'm a huge Eurovision fan, you can expect to see many Eurovision songs here as well as songs that missed out on getting to Eurovision (since many national final songs that don't win are so good, and in many cases, superior to the songs that did win, at least to me), but also songs Eurovision artists and national finalists released last year.
